Oh when I get there it wont be far enough I'm a renegade its in my blood. If ever I get there it wont be fast enough, I'm a renegade I always was.
Being an Avenger was incredible. Everyone should try it. Sometimes it lead you to situations like this where you had no idea what the hell it was that you were doing. Kate had bit the bullet, managed to find some decent clothes. She figured on the off chance that there was a Tony and he wasn't from her universe that it would be better showing up as a civilian then she could feign ignorance at the whole thing and walk back out without triggering any real massive red flags. It looks like home. That was the part that frightened her, sure she didn't like the tower as much as the mansion it had been effectively blown to smitherines. Part of that hurt. There was so much history in those walls....even for the Young Avengers. She'd walked past it...Cassies statue was gone, it had been damaged and some part of her felt as if it meant that the people who had attacked it had just destroyed a memory of her rather than a piece of rock. When you mourned for a team make the piece of rock that was their memorial meant more than you would ever admit.
Taking the stairs to the main entrance it was deserted...the streets were quiet...this wasn't quiet the metropolis that she had been expecting and it threw her a little...this was just weird. Kate jumped the security barrier, there was no one around to tell her any different after all and she made for the lift. It was just odd to see Stark Industries this way. Part of her really hoped that one of the Avengers was around because frankly Kate needed some answers. Fast. The ride up to the top was slow, it felt like it, she repeatedly looked at her phone, no signal...no wifi in here...she was a little lost without a connection to the wider world. She didn't know what to do. It sounded so stupid but how did people cope before they had the world at their finger tips?
It was the same....everything was kinda the same...it was strange and she didn't like it very much. This was the start of a bad horror movie or something. "Aww man, this is creepy as!" Kate said to the empty room as she reached out to touch one of Starks priceless pieces of expensive tat that decorated the large living quarters him and the Avengers normally occupied. "And that painting is ugly as." She pulled a face and kinda hoped Tony wasn't around to hear here slag off his décor but she had told him not to buy the damn thing. Not her fault he wouldn't listen to her, after all Kate was a lot more stylish than he was. Fact.
With a heavy sigh she pulled her purple hoodie tighter around her frame. All the joking aside she was a little freaked out...she could handle this normally but that was because she had her team. The Young Avengers were incredible. They had saved the multiverse from being eaten while the Avengers were brainwashed, they had fought side by side with the Avengers so many times they had lost count and Kate would be lying if she said her heart hadn't exploded from happiness the first time Cap said 'Avengers Assemble' and included them in it.
That was another universe though. Another universe where her mentor was in danger and she couldn't get to him, couldn't warn him. Maybe it was too late. Maybe he was dead. Maybe she had completely screwed up. She ended her wonder in front of one of the large ceiling to floor windows looking down at the City and she let out a heavy sigh. "This looks bad Hawkeye. Whatever have you got yourself into now?"
Keep running, running. I'll keep running, I'll keep running again.

*NOTE: Captain America’s role in this takes place after the event of Land of Confusion* Physically, Steve was feeling pretty damn good. Thanks to Spider-Man, he’d been able to use the machines in the med lab to fix his arm and ribs. There was some lingering tenderness, but it was a great deal better than not even being able to hold his shield on his left arm. Mentally, however, he was extremely stressed. The discovery that the two of them had made regarding the current situation weighted heavy on his heart and he couldn't think of how they could get out of this. If he weren’t an Avenger, Steve might’ve fallen into despair over it. But there was no time for that. They had a lot of work to do and fixing this situation was going to require every hero they could find so they had to get to work. Stepping over to the computer he starting switching the settings back to emergency signals and Avenger cards. No sooner had he reset the computer to search for Avenger IDs when a ping came up. Not one for Avengers, but on regarding something entirely different. Clicking it, Steve learned it was a ping notifying him that someone was in the building. At first he could only see the back of the person. She was facing away from the camera he was on, but she seemed to be shuffling around the main lobby towards the elevators. As she stepped in, he switched to a camera in that car and got a clear view of her face. It was Hawkeye! Steve felt a mixture of relief and concern at that moment. Having another hero show up was a blessing all in itself, but it was one of the younger ones. As the elevator climbed he admitted to himself that he needed to see the positive. She was almost every bit as capable as her Avenger counterpart; and despite the worries he’d had previously towards Young Avengers, this was just what the cause needed. - After removing his shield from the table and affixing it to his back, Steve had made his way do the floor with the living quarters where she had gotten off. He only had to look in a few rooms before he found her. She was staring out of one of the floor to ceiling windows and he walked in just as she said to herself, "This looks bad Hawkeye. Whatever have you got yourself into now?" How often had he found himself doing that very same thing when he felt the weight of the world crashing down on him, suffocating his heart. Steve knew she was not asking that as a literal question, but he answered her anyway. “It’s not just Clint. We’re ALL in trouble right now.”

Oh when I get there it wont be far enough I'm a renegade its in my blood. If ever I get there it wont be fast enough, I'm a renegade I always was. When she was younger Kate remembered seeing pictures of New York City from the Spaceshuttle at night. She could almost make our her house and the city that would consume the rest of her life. Back then she didn't know she would be working as an Avenger, that she would give up the easy life that she had to do all of this. Kate could have lived and died a rich woman. Could have played safe...lived and ruled as the CEO of the worlds largest media corporation. All Kate could do was hop that in the end the journey would bring joys that outweighed the pain. Clint had once told her all you could do was saddle the baggage you had on to your shoulders, hit the road, be what you believed and let it fill you till you burst at the seams.
The city below was still lit up...there were less cars on the road then normal but all the lights were on and it seemed just so very strange and wrong. Her thoughts strayed to Clint, she hadn't slept much last night, even with Loki standing watch. She had been thinking about her mentor. Hoping and praying that he was okay, that Madam Masque hadn't got to him...that he wasn't dead. All she really wanted was to cry, she was meant to be getting home, getting to him to save him and now...now there was a universe in the way.
A familiar voice startled her. Kate jumped a little, snapped her head around and her eyes fell on Cap. For a moment Kate stayed very still, as if she was trying to work out if it was him or not. She let the image sink in before she shook her head. "No, no it's bad, it's really bad." She said rushed, "Whitney's going to kill him, they put a hit out, it's got something to do with that building he bought, they want it, they want it really bad and they're going to kill him because he wont hand it over." Maybe her explanation made no sense what so ever...but the fear was very real in her voice. "I was on my way over to his apartment when...when this happened. I can't reach him, the cell networks down and the Avengers cards arn't working....have you seen him? Is he okay?" There were so many questions for such little space of time but she had to ask them.
Kate had to know.
Rightly or wrongly her only goal was trying to find Clint. He would have done the same for her, he would have torn this world apart from the very seams to find her if he had to. He wouldn't just give up. Wouldn't just leave her behind. Kate ran a hand though her black hair before trying her very best to gather herself together. She was an Avenger after all. They had more balls than this. "The cities empty...It's like....three quarters of the place just vanished. I went into Walgreens and there was...it was like a normal store but empty, no staff, no customers but...everything was there...hell even the ATMs arn't working! " That was when you knew something was very, very wrong.
Keep running, running. I'll keep running, I'll keep running again.

Steve sympathized with the female archer. At a time like this, those you care about most were always going to be your biggest concern. But as much as he wanted to find Clint himself, there was a much larger issue at hand. And for that he was going to need any and every hero he could recruit. That didn’t mean that what he was going to say to her would get any easier.
“I hate to say this because you’re already worried enough, but I can’t afford to sugar coat it. You didn't just lose contact with Clint; you’re not even in the same universe right now.” Cap gave a pause to let that sink in before continuing. “None of us are. And after talking with Spider-Man, there’s a chance that even if Clint ends up here he may not be from the same timeline.” The next part was a struggle to get out; because it’s something he didn't know how she would react to. But if he was going to get heroes to help find a way to get everyone home, full disclosure was a necessity.
“The fact is, we’re stuck here. Thanos, the Mad Titan, was able to collect the Infinity Gems and create the Infinity Gauntlet. I gathered every Avenger I could and tried to stop him, but we were grossly over-matched. In the end, Thanos activated the gauntlet, and the next thing I know I’m waking up in Brooklyn. I get back here to the Tower and Spider-Man shows up. Together we worked out what is so far our best and only guess as to what’s happened here. I’d like to get Tony or Reed Richards to confirm it, because it just feels too crazy.” Steve let out a sigh, balled his right arm into a fist, and told her what he and Spider-Man had thought up. “We think Thanos did two things. First, he threw New York into some alternate dimension and quite possibly several of Earth’s heroes. And second, he’s trapped up all in the city. Spider-Man thought of that when he realized we couldn't scan or send or receive any messages out of the city. The Avengers cards should start coming back shortly after the hero arrives, but for now as far as I can tell it’s just you, Spider-Man, and I.”
Steve couldn't even begin to imagine how the poor girl was taking this; it was a lot to have thrown on her all at once. He wasn't about to make things better. “I know this is difficult to accept, but for now we’re stuck and there’s nothing we can do. But we have innocent people trapped here too, and they’ll start to realize that soon enough. When that happens, there will be panic everywhere. We need to get every hero we can to keep the peace until we can get things back to the way they were.” Steve walked up until he was only a few steps away from her, and in a genuine but solemn tone, asked, “Will you join us to help save this city, Avenger?”

Oh when I get there it wont be far enough I'm a renegade its in my blood. If ever I get there it wont be fast enough, I'm a renegade I always was. It must have been an Avenger thing...to head straight for the tower when you were at a loss. It took there like a beacon in the middle of New York City calling out to those that were lucky enough to carry an Avenger Card. What she had not expected was a pretty violent smack down to earth by Captain America. The situation was so much more dire than they thought it had been.
Kate stood there and listened the shock evidence on her face, her jaw dropped. Even if Clint did show up it might be the wrong Clint...she had meet a few while travelling though the multiverse – not that Captain would remember the whole Mother eating worlds thing – but frankly she had never quite clicked with any of them. The idea that she had lost Clint was too much really for Kate to want to consider right now. Instead she concentrated on the other part of the conversation, the information drop.
"You know...if Tony was here this would have been the first place he came...so either he's not here or he's in trouble." Kate pointed out, she knew the man well enough that this would have been his first place to go just like her and Cap. It was protocol afterall and while Tony wasn't one for protocol she was pretty sure he would have kept this one. There was more bad news and Kate stood silent for a few moments to let it all sink in and her brain process what she was being told. He was right. Captain was always right. They had to deal with the situation and her loyalty as an Avenger was to the people of this city first and then her fellow Avengers. Plus it was Clint he could handle himself.
Sighing heavily Kate ran a hand though her dark hair before looking at him. Had he really needed to ask that question? She was an Avenger above all else. This was what she was born for...of course she was going to help. “Of course I will.” Kate answered looking at him like he was an idiot. “You said to us we would always be Avengers...” She recalled, she remembered it so vividly as Cap had handed the Young Avengers their Avengers cards...sure they were tokens, they kinda knew they weren't actually on the roster, maybe a few years down the line they might be a draft pick but the sentiment was there. “I always will be.” As if Captain America needed a declaration of loyalty after they had fought a civil war together.
“You're right there's going to be mass panic and chaos. We need to be seen publicly.” At least Kate had been picking up some skills since the last time they had teamed up. “Public order is going to be the biggest concern. We need people to know that we're still here...you can not let people find out we don't know where the others are it would cause hysteria.” If there was anything a life time of family work in a media corperation had taught her it was how the masses behaved. “The cell phone towers are down as are most other comms networks. We need a way to keep in touch...Tony has to have some old radios in here right? They'd still work without the towers or a digital network...” As ever she was proving exactly how she had earned the Hawkeye name and the position as Young Avengers leader. “Hopefully the emergency services radios are still running, they're designed to withstand a comm network crash right? We need to make sure that they are running without hospitals or the fire service or police any public order control we do is utterly pointless.”
Keep running, running. I'll keep running, I'll keep running again.

Steve was impressed. He knew Ms. Bishop was very competent despite her youth, but she seems to be fully immersing herself into finding solutions. It was a moment like this that just confirmed he made a good call in giving her Clint’s moniker. All of the Young Avengers were good kids, but to him and the others they were still just that; kids. It’s why he’d been so against the idea. He thought he might have to go with the old adage, ‘beggars can’t be choosers,’ but her diving headfirst into the situation showed she was capable of being a legitimate contributor.
“You’re hitting a lot of nails right on the head here, Kate,” Steve said. “What we need to do first and foremost with this is get emergency lines working. I think we've still got a bit of time before the whole city notices what’s happened, but for now anyone that’s missing loved ones or living on the edge of town has probably already realized and these are the ones call the police with no luck.” He brought his hand up to his chin in contemplation. “Maybe would could use our computers to get those systems up and running. Especially once word starts spreading; when a person panics they can act rashly. When people panic you have the potential for a riot.”
Steve thought about it and although he wasn't necessarily bad with computers, he still wasn't capable of doing something like hacking into New York’s emergency service lines. “This is one of those times I’d actually be glad to hear Tony brag about how good he is with computers. We could actually use the smug right about now.” He turned his head to Kate and looked at her thoughtfully and smiled. “I don’t suppose you are tech savvy enough to use our computers, are you?” If you needed an evil Nazi scientist punched in the mouth, Captain America was the perfect person to call. If you needed to use a computer to hack into government computers, maybe give the reins to someone born AFTER the invention of computers.

Was that his way of saying he was impressed? Kate could have dropped right there, she blinked at him for a moment raising an eyebrow before letting her brain go back to the problem in hand. “The panic will have already started when people realise they can't update their facebook page from their cell.” Kate pointed out. Now it was all about stopping it spreading. “They'll be dialling emergency services, even with all of the processing power of this place that's barely going to give us room to do anything else.” There would be nothing to run the tower, the system would be struggling to deal with the calls..plus would the people taking those calls even be there? There was a snort laugh from her at the Tony comment “Never thought I'd hear you say that Cap...trust me, I'm good at computers.” Mind you the last time she'd really seen the two of them together they'd been beating the crap out of each other. That happened way too often. It was like this unwritten superhero rule book or something. She fell quiet for a moment. She was thinking and moved slowly to hold a finger up as if asking Cap for a moment. Her eyes trailed across the room, following the windows and she could see her fathers tower from here. Bishop Publishing Inc written on the side and she wondered...
“We can use the publishing tower.” Kate said turning to look at Cap and pointing to the 90s concrete pillar a block over. It was the place she had grown up in, she remembered being dragged around it on days off school...hell she remembered sitting in the top floor in her fathers office with a can of Coke in her hand watching the Avengers battle in the sky. “I'll need you to log onto the system, I don't have access and it would take me too long to break into it. We might have been given Avengers cards but you know, we don't actually have access to anything...like Tony said, we're token Avengers.” Because you could be an Avenger...but not really.
“I've got access to the system over at my fathers company, if we can use the two together it should give us enough bandwidth to handle the calls and have system power to do things with...if we clog up Starks system with all these calls then there's nothing else it can do. We loose it and right now we kinda need the computer as well...” She explained as she turned on the holotable and pulled up the log in screen. “We also need to consider the possibility of power outages.” Maybe all the reading and studying about the cities infrastructure were paying off. “Most of the power plants are upstate...depending on how large this....thing is we might have been cut off from the main grid...if the power goes we'll never contain public order.”
“You know what they used to say during the way, a society is only ever three meals away from a revolution. Deprive a culture of three meals and there will be anarchy.” It was valid in this situation, leave the city without something for too long and they were going to riot and tear the place down out of frustration.
Keep running, running. I'll keep running, I'll keep running again.

Both Steve’s eyebrows rose up, his face becoming an expression often found in a ‘Why didn’t I think of that’ moment, even though a thought like that probably wouldn’t have occurred to him. He was not an IT person, so rerouting one system through another through another was just down right brilliant to him. A slight smile formed on Steve’s face as he said, “Using our system through your family’s system. That’s genius, Kate. We can go up to the control room and I’ll get the computer set up for that.”
Listening carefully to Kate’s explanation of the risks involved with this plan, Steve carefully considered the problem. Doing this would mean that the computers couldn’t focus on tracking other Avengers cards. It also meant it wouldn’t be able to run constant scans to figure out exactly what they were dealing with as far as them being stuck in the city. And even then, there was a chance that this could blow out their power. Could they really risk doing that?
The moment he asked himself that question, Steve spoke up to Kate. “We need these computers to keep trying to find other Avengers as well as try to analyze what’s going on with this city.” He thought about a child calling the police because her mommy was missing. A fire started because a mother had went to wake her child while making breakfast and couldn’t find them, and the lady being unable to reach the fire department. And elderly man who relied on his children to care for him dying of a stroke because he couldn’t reach EMTs. The answer was obvious. “But we’re heroes. We always try to do the right thing no matter the cost. If you rerouting this system means the fire department can stop fires and policemen can help keep the peace, we’re doing it. We can find Avengers the old fashioned way-“ at this Steve gestured to his eyes “-and if we blow out the system I trust that I’m standing right next to the best person to fix it.”
Steve motioned for her to follow as he turned and started heading to the elevator; destination control room. “And Kate; once we get the system stabilized, I’ll work on getting you full access to the computer…. Avenger.”

Oh when I get there it wont be far enough I'm a renegade its in my blood. If ever I get there it wont be fast enough, I'm a renegade I always was.
She was a little taken aback by the praise, she didn't expect Captain America to go do that, for a moment she paused and looked at him right in the eye as if she was trying to detect a hint of sarcasm or the normal dismissal the Young Avengers got from the big wigs...but there was nothing. It seemed genuine. Wow. She didn't really know what to say to that or how to really take a complement from him, there was a creep for a blush as she shook her head, what she actually wanted to say was; 'damn straight I have a genius IQ and eidetic memory do you realise what your team has been missing' what she did say was: “Thanks...I guess eh...” Now she just sounded like an idiot. Well done Katie.
They had hard choices to make about the city, and as harsh as it sounded there wasn't anyone else here to make them. Kate wasn't going to sit around and cry about how this was too big, or how it was too much responsibility...when there was no one else around it. Kate didn't have an option. The way she never had an option in the wake of Cassies death, she had been the only one capable of making choices and with Patriot walking out everything had come down to her. She'd made the hard choices about Vision, about what to do with her fellow Young Avengers and the consensus had been to go their separate ways. Like that was ever going to stop her. Days later she'd been on roof tops with her bow, sure she'd been on her own but Kate didn't know what else to do. The idea of not being able to be Hawkeye terrified her.
Her fears aside she listened, another shake of the head, “We wont need to go looking for them....” What did an Avenger do when the crap hit the fan? They headed for here. That was the one basic instinct all of them had. “They're either going to come here or go to the mansion, its like the first rule in Avengering 101.” Hell even when she had been a Young Avenger when the world was going to hell it was where they had went. “Plus the emergency protocols will still be working right? The place has its own generator it will kick in if the power goes out. If there's a security breach at the Mansion we'll be notified...we can always set up an alert if anyone accesses the building we'll get pinged. You only had to tell Kate something once and she was going to remember it. She might not have powers but she had excellent memory.
Captain America seemed to have so much confidence in her that it almost threw her, she couldn't remember the last time any of the Avengers had even been that interested in them. They still wrote them off as children and despite the fact that she had pointed out several times they were now all over eighteen. They weren't kids. Then again she could understand where they were coming from...if you weren't a Young Avenger then you were just an Avenger...and more often than not that didn't end well for people. Her jaw dropped slightly as they got in the elevator...had he just called her? It was a little too close to being in a chick flick for Kate, she smirked, rolled her eyes a little. “Does that mean I get a graduation hat now and a speech about freedom?” She was kidding, of course she was...and it was just such a Hawkeye thing to do. It was one of the reasons she had his name.
Keep running, running. I'll keep running, I'll keep running again.

Stepping into the elevator, Steve realized Kate had made an exceptionally good point. It was pretty much set in stone that when a problem arose, Avengers Tower was where you were needed to be so everyone could strategize and mobilize from that point. “You know, you’re absolutely right. Sometimes an old dog like me goes back to what he did back in the day and it takes a young brain to point out the obvious.” A slight smile crept across his face as he admitted to missing something right in front of him.
That smiled disappeared altogether when she made her next comment. It was one that Steve was very familiar with. ‘Captain America always has a lecture.' 'Oh boy here comes another speech.' One time Spider-Man even pulled out a candy bar and handed it to Clint saying, ‘Gonna be here awhile?’ The way Clint laughed Steve had assumed it was some kind of inside joke that he wasn't getting. Without moving his head, Steve glared at her out of the corner of his eye with a stern expression on his face.
What followed was something that Kate could tell to anyone and not a soul would believe her for the rest of her life; except maybe Sharon. “Make sure to write your name on the inside, so you can find it after throwing it up.” It may be a terrible joke, but in Steve’s defense he’s probably older than Kate’s grandparents and back in his day sarcasm was pretty subtle. “Also, I think if Tony were here he’d have a coronary at you calling his generators ‘generators.’ He usually has a Stark-themed marketing name for everything he makes.” It was probably called the Stark-Tech Auxiliary Energy Accelerator, but Steve kept that musing to himself and suppressed a chuckle.
Changing the subject, Steve cleared his throat. “So the question is, are you able to access your family’s computers from our systems or do you need to get over there?”

Oh when I get there it wont be far enough I'm a renegade its in my blood. If ever I get there it wont be fast enough, I'm a renegade I always was.
Kate was genuinely kinda surprised that Cap was being so...well...nice. She had always seen him as this over bearing authority figure, he'd always been this larger than life thing and sure when she had been fifteen and standing in the ruins of Avengers Mansion long abandoned as he confiscated the bow and arrows she had stolen she hated him. Actually hated him. Like hell she was going to listen to him, she had metaphorically given him the middle finger and bought new costumes, they had been back out on the streets hours later. Kate doubted she had been on his good books so maybe the feeling had been mutual?
Truth be told it was only when she watched him lead in a war she'd developed the respect she probably should have had from the start. Kate had never agreed with the Civil War, it had been stupid but she had sided with Cap because he was right...he had this wonderful way of taking this massive situation and making it simple enough that the black and white became clear. You had to have respect for that skill.
Throughout her career as a costumed hero there was one thing that Kate had never witnessed. His sense of humour. Kate laughed, she almost doubled over, one of those bright laughs that lit up a room. It might have been trumping her own horn but she was well liked, there were reasons for that, despite all the horrors and the years of fighting she was still this bright little button capable of seeing all the wonder and hope the world held even in the worst situations. When the world was ending and everything they knew was gone she could still laugh. “The world is definitely ending if you are cracking jokes.”
Kate was starting to see why Clint liked Cap so much. She liked his sense of humour, it was smart and subtle and she could get down with that. “Eh let him. He makes a fortune dressing up simple things in pretty packages. It's all marketing, you dress up something pretty basic as super fandangled people will buy it, people love thinking their at the forefront of technology. ” Starks marketing department were the envy of every other company in the city. Hell Kate had heard her father rant about it more times than she could count.
“I'll be able to access it from here, I've got remote access.” She didn't but she had hacked her fathers company before...how do you think she had paid for the Young Avengers. Creative accounting was Kates forte. “I don't know how long it will take me though, it could be ten minutes it could be a couple of hours...” She could do it but Kate honestly had no idea how much she was going to have to work around security etc. “I really wish Starbucks was open right now.” There was nothing like a cup of American Capitalism to help prop the system up.
Keep running, running. I'll keep running, I'll keep running again.

Now it was Steve’s turn to laugh. Well, chuckle. He knew when he’d given her Clint’s moniker that she had earned it for more than just her bow skills. She had a healthy dose of the snark that Clint had and Steve had grown to tolerate. As they reached the level with the computer room, he was glad to know she could do everything from their control room. If she could get all the systems in sync with the ones in the Tower, they would have a much easier time in getting information and assistance to those who needed it.
As they exited the elevator, Steve nodded in affirmation to her comment about how long this may take. “Well I hope sooner rather than later, but you take as long as you need. We need these emergency service lines up and running as soon as possible.” He was very hopeful about the good they could do when she got this system up. Above all else, they NEEDED to get the police, EMT, and fire and rescue services ready for dispatching as soon as possible. The fringes of the dome were probably already starting to panic, as would anyone who suddenly found their loved ones gone, so keeping a face of safety and order from the get go would limit the chaos.
At the mention of coffee, Steve thought he could use a cup himself. “Tell you what. How about I get you set up for the computers, and then I go start a pot of coffee. It might be a bit stronger than your everyday chain stuff, but it’ll keep you up.” Not that he would really realize it, but there should be a disclaimer on that. His coffee is military strength java, which according to some people is essentially hot tar and caffeine. In the War, as an Invader, staying up for several days was not an uncommon thing and even a Super Soldier needed a pick-me-up. So Steve learned that with his body’s high tolerance for things like caffeine and alcohol he would need something with a bit more zip and after an incident in which him offering Toro a cup almost resulted in a barracks burning down, he knew he made strong stuff. But she should be fine, she didn't have any super powers to go supernova.
Stepping up to the console, he put in his login and stepped aside so the archer could get to work. "You're all set."

Oh when I get there it wont be far enough I'm a renegade its in my blood. If ever I get there it wont be fast enough, I'm a renegade I always was. “I'll get it up as fast as I can. I promise.” No pissing around. Stepping out the elevator she ran a hand though her hair and looked around the computer room...she was a little disappointed she kinda thought it was smaller than she expected. Then again she guessed Tony would be at the forefront of Moores Law; the number of transistors on integrated circuits doubles every two years, so size halfs. At least that was how she had been told, Kate remembered the exact moment she had heard about it, three thirty seven on the D train in the city off a guy sat across from her who had been talking about his lectures at college. Having an eidetic memory came in handy sometimes. Sometimes it just meant your head got clogged with crap that wasn't relevant.
Reaching out she sat her hands on the edge of the holotable and leaned against it watching him with one eyebrow raised as he offered to make coffee. It just felt a little surreal that was all. “And they say chivalry is dead.” Kate quipped with a smile, “I'm used to drinking Clints coffee...I'm sure yours will be fine.” Pushing herself back up to standing hight she reached out, snapped her fingers and threw out the interface around her. “You know...when Stark shows up you'll stop him from blasting me for playing around with his computes right?” Because that was totally something he would do.
The last time she had played with his stuff it hadn't ended well – that might also have to do with the fact she was stealing stuff from the mansion. Kate smiled to herself as she started getting to work. Her brain jumped from piece to piece as she started to fit how it was going to go in her head, she'd have to shut everything down here, keep the bare minimum in the tower running...they weren't going to be having any parties up here soon. “I'm going to close down all non essential functions in the tower, at least till we get this worked out, plus...can't imagine many people will be eager to spend their day at work in the offices below us...” most were probably at home freaking the hell out with their families. The background noise the tower started to drop as the started turning sections of the air conditioning off...there wasn't really a choice though.
And then she went for it....when she meant that she had access there was no way she was going in through the font door...the lines and lines of code scrolling past as the tapped the keyboard on the table gave away what she was doing to the trained eye and while she knew Cap wasn't stupid she was kinda hoping that he had no idea what she was doing. Then again was it breaking and entering when you technically owned said system?
Keep running, running. I'll keep running, I'll keep running again.

Steve chuckled just a tad as he thought about how exactly Tony would react to her using the Avengers computers. In his mind it was a toss-up between freaking out and shoving her aside to do whatever she was doing without even asking what that was, or be impressed that she was so confident with them and offer her a job. “Don’t worry Kate. If Tony tries to use the suit on you, I’ll back you up.”
When Kate said she was shutting down non-essential systems, Steve had just the smallest of concerns. He didn’t know what exactly the system would consider “non-essential.” What if some minor equipment that served a larger purpose for other equipment got shut down and they ended up needing it? “Alright go ahead when you’re ready. Just try to make sure it’s nothing we can’t get back.”
Watching her work, Steve was reminded of that movie he’d watched a little while ago. It was about some hackers living in a computer or something. He couldn’t remember the name, but it was a pretty good movie.
Steve decided that it would be best to leave her to it, and went into the next room to start making that coffee. “If you need me I’ll be in the other room.” He remembered Tony suggesting some super ultra tech coffee/cappuccino maker, but Steve had stubbornly rejected that idea (much to the chagrin of Thor, if you can believe that). There was absolutely nothing wrong with just a generic one pot coffee maker and that was absolutely the fossil mentality of Steve that believed that. He poured in the water, remembering times like those; the ones no one ever really saw that proved The Avengers at their core were just as normal as the people they saved. They all had the day to day grind that your average citizen had; they just had a slightly more difficult side job. Steve put in five scoops of the insta-coffee grinds and started it up.
-
While the coffee percolated, Steve returned to the room Kate was in. “So you think this’ll be a quick process, or are you going to be in the long haul?”

Oh when I get there it wont be far enough I'm a renegade its in my blood. If ever I get there it wont be fast enough, I'm a renegade I always was. There was a laugh from her, if Tony decided to blast her then neither of them were going to be able to do much about it. “You better.” There was an authority in her voice, it was the same voice that she used with the Young Avengers that old everyone in no uncertain terms that they were going to d as they were told. She hadn't quite realised that until she had said it otherwise she might have put the message across more politely.
Kate started deleting processes off the computers and servers left right and centre, the lefts went, she left one functional and online so people could move but the rest were going to have to go. Nodding her head at him she coughed, clearing her throat as she scanned though the list of things fast ticking them off in her head as she went. “I've shut down all but one of the elevators, shut down most of the air conditioning, all the wall mounting TVs in the building, Jesus Tony how much of your building is run off this damn system!” Everything was the answer for that.
Sighing she dropped her head back, she felt her shoulder click before she took a deep breath and got back to it. She was only half way though the list, once she had freed up as much processing speed as she could she'd go for the kill. “Sugar....in the coffee...milk and sugar please.” Well the situation hadn't made her abandon her manners completely but she had been distracted enough that it almost came off as rude but she didn't mean it. She was just busy.
It felt like he had never been out the room, her head snapped up at his voice an she just shrugged her shoulders, “I'm really sorry...it takes as long as it does.” That was the blunt honest truth of it. “I've got everything set up so I'm going to try and connect the two systems now and then it's just a matter of you know...doing the thing and making the calls go where the calls are meant to go.”
Keep running, running. I'll keep running, I'll keep running again.
