MAXIMOFF, PIETRO // QUICKSILVER

Pietro is not someone who blends into the crowd; most people spot the speedster due to the silvery white hair on top of his head, hair that he keeps well groomed, short and slicked back. Next would be the blue eyes he has, the same colour of his father’s, but if asked he would say blue like his daughters. His face is angular, his cheek bones are defined giving his cheeks a sunken look, his eyes are often narrowed and his nose is a little big, but if you ask him, he was good looking enough to steal Crystal from the Human Torch. Pietro is a tall lean man, he has some definition but he is nowhere near the look of a body builder, he has no use for the arms like Captain America or the broad chest like Wolverine. They are both far too slow for his licking. He is a runner and he keeps the look of a runner, he stands at an even six feet and only weighs about one seventy five pounds.


The typical thing you can see Pietro in is often his hero suit, a skin tight one piece outfit that is made of a material that can withstand the speeds he runs at, as well as not easily tear when he wipes out from time to time. This costume comes in two versions that he likes, a blue version where about half his body is a dark blue with a lightning bold of while that moves across his left shoulder and down to his right leg, a blue little bold twist around his left arm and leg as well. He pairs his with a set of gloves and shoes. Since joining the X-Factor team with his sister Loren, Pietro now wears a yellow suit that matches his other team members. The other version is green with the bolt following the same path but much simpler. His street clothing, if you are lucky to find him in some would find he just wears hoodies and jeans. Pietro is one to care for his looks, but he also knew what it was like to grow up poor and does not invest too much money on his clothing that can easily be destroyed due to his life as an Avenger and mutant.


Other than his looks Pietro’s personality is strong too, he comes off as well a dick. He is arrogant, smart mouthed and easily irritated, you would be too if you lived in a world where you had to slow down your whole life to other peoples speed. They have coined the speedster’s personality into its own little thing, Pietro Maximoff Syndrome, PMS for short. Pietro cannot turn his mutation off his brain is always processing things faster than others, slowing the world around him into a crawl, and he can’t speed everyone up, so he has to slow down, he has to walk slower, talk slower, just do everything slower so people can keep up. It is like he is stuck in rush hour but his whole life is like that.


Pietro isn’t all sarcastic remarks and perpetual sick up the ass. He does have softer moment, they are just often far and few between and with only a select few. During House of M he did try and make everyone happy, for selfish reasons but he was thinking about others for a moment, he also deeply cares for Wanda, his daughter, sometimes Lorna, and even though they are no longer together Crystal . He is more than happy to do things with them or for them, sit through a long opera with Wanda, or just spend family time with Luna no matter how it feels to drag on he will tough it out without complaining. He also extends this towards the team, not the same extent, and he will complain when he can just to make sure they don’t think he is going soft on them, but he is willing to take orders, travel with them even though he is faster. He does want to help people, he does want to do good in the world, and he strongly feels that once an avenger always an avenger.

Speed Physiology:
What would be the point of superhuman speed if your body could not handle it? Pietro’s main mutation is how his body changed to adapt to the speeds he can run at. His metabolism is better than most humans, where most humans only process 25% of the caloric energy contained in food Pietro processes about 95% of this energy and store it. He still needs to eat more often than most, with how fast he burns though the stored energy. The mutant enhancement Pietro has extends to his muscular system, he does not produce the normal fatigue poisons humans generate that forces people to rest, instead his body removes these waist products though his respiration system during high speeds in the form of exhalation. His bones are stronger due to an unknown substance, his tendons’ are like steel springs and his joints are smother and lubricated better than normal humans. Pietro’s reaction time is highly enhanced due to his brain being able to process information around him equal to the speeds he is traveling at. His eyes are also enhanced, where he does not have super sight or anything his tears are different, they do not evaporate as quickly as most peoples, they also replenish quickly so his vision does not get obscured. His lungs are also developed in a way he can survive in reduced oxygen, he also has an immunity to friction.

Pietro is also durable, between his body making sure he does not break a leg at the force of his foot hitting the ground, he can survive many impacts that could kill a normal human since the strange substance that strengthen his bones is found throughout his body. It is said he has superhuman strength that is not that true, Pietro can just press with his legs about 1 ton under optimal conditions but only can lift with his upper body 1000 pounds, unlike others with super human strength he cannot do the same feats as them.

Super Speed:
This is what the speed physiology led too, Pietro was built for speed, his original top speed was the speed of sound 770 miles per hour, but some tinkering form the High Evolutionary his speed was greatly enhanced. His top speed is unknown but he has been clocked at Mach 4, he can run across water without sinking and even run up something at a 90 degree angle.


Molecular Destabilization:
Like most speedsters Pietro has discovered that he can vibrate his molecules, he can also accelerate other objects molecules as well, he can make things fall apart or explode by touching them.

Weakness:
Everyone has one, so does Pietro. Pietro can be stabbed, crushed to death and even have the few people he cares about used against him; he also has an unstable mind. It seems to be a family trait, something he share with his sisters and father. Pietro has shown this by doing drastic things most would see as stupid, such as create a whole alternate reality when Wanda’s life was in jeopardy, to depression after the loss of his powers and the lengths he went to, to get them back.


ABILITIES
Skilled Combatant:
Joining the Avengers Pietro has been trained by Captain America in martial arts and other forms of combat.



Multilingualism:
Pietro can speak a few languages, English, Russian, German and a Para-Romani variant that his adoptive parents taught him.

Maximoff. It was there the twins grew up. For the most part they were happy in the Gypsy camp, learning the way of their parents, times were tough though and they didn’t have much money. Django was a doll maker and supported them though hawking his wares, but the prejudice the locals had to the Romai life style caused them to move around often leading Django to steal to keep his wife and two children fed. Pietro saw this, and it was only out of wanting to help his family that he started to steal as well. Pietro was caught by his father and scolded for stealing, being told it was wrong, this confused the child because he could not understand how if it was wrong Django did it. Pietro ran off that night. Three days he left his family even though Django was looking for him, even getting the local police involved. It wasn’t till Wanda was attacked by a local boy did Pietro return. Between the thefts Pietro committed, and twisting the assault on Wanda around the village attack the camp the Maximoffs were living at, They set fire to the wagon killing Marya, they clubbed Django in the back of the head and the twins ran off thinking both parents were dead.


The Twins would spend the rest of their childhood alone in the wilds of Transa stealing and trying to survive the elements, wild life, and their own budding mutation. It would be hard for the twins who were now on the verge of teenagers, they had no one to explain to them what was going on. Pietro could see the fear in his sister as her hex bolt would start up on their own, but Pietro had his own worries. His heart rate went up, he could not control the speed he spoke at leaving communications between him and his sister broken, only when he concentrated could he spit out the words he needed, he was constantly hungry causing him to steal more to keep his sister fed. But it was these years of their growing mutation that drew Magneto to them. He promised them control of their powers, he promised them a home and food, and he promised them knowledge of what was going on with them, and they accepted.

Joining the Brotherhood and Magneto, they gained their costumes and their identity, Pietro was now known to the world as Quicksilver, the mutant terrorist. Their exploits with the Brotherhood were shortly lived, they helped Magneto out of obligation and fear, but with Magneto’s defeat at the hands of Stranger they left the Brotherhood and returned home to Transia.


It would not be long till Quicksilver and Wanda became part of the Avengers with Hawkeye and Captain America. Proving himself towards the other members despite his checkered past he was seen as a valuable member, but Pietro was never a really loyal person and he struggled with his view on mutants and humans, this would cause him to join Magneto briefly, when Magneto fell once more to the X-Men and Avengers he rejoined the Avengers.


After a tough battle Pietro was wounded it was Crystal a member of the royal family of the Inhumans that took care of his wounds. Despite her relationship with Johnny Storm, Pietro still entered a relationship with her over the months that passed before he was well again. They married shortly after and soon Crystal became pregnant with her and Pietro’s child, a daughter they named Luna after the Inhuman’s home. It was shortly after the birth of Luna that Pietro and Wanda learned the truth behind their birth though Bova. It was here Pietro learned his real mother ran off before their birth to the Wudagore Mountain in Transia, their mother feared Magneto and his wish for world domination of the mutant race.


Their marriage was not a happy one, Pietro often neglected Crystal in favour of military work, Pietro soon learned of the affair and due to manipulation from Maximus, Pietro vowed revenge and feel once more to criminal means to get back at his old team mates and wife. When Maximus lost his grip on Pietro’s mind Black Bolt the leader of the Inhumans that he and Crystal reconcile, this failed. Over the few years and many team changed between the two they had a on and off relationship.


During this time Wanda was having her own issues which lead to her killing a few of her team members when she had a mental breakdown. Pietro feared the rest of the Avengers would kill her due her power and fragile state of mind, he convinced her to change the world to save her from death and he told her to make them happy so that they would not revolt against them and undo what he was trying to do. This became known as House of M. Alas, the best laid schemes of mice and men, often go awry. Layla Miller, a mutant used her powers to make the avengers see the false world causing them to confront the House of Magnus, Erik saw it was his son who did this, using his name and proceeded to kill Pietro. Wanda stopped the attack and healed her brother, she understood what Pietro was trying to do, and her own anger towards their father lead her to utter three words that would change the world forever, “No more Mutants.”


Pietro with ninety percent of the mutant population were without powers. Pietro fell into depression and began to seek out a way to fix it with extreme measures. Getting Crystal to bring him to the Inhuman world and using his daughter he stole he Terrigen crystals and used them to not only give himself powers but also his daughter, the then used the new powers to start powering the mutants who lost their powers. Using new added powers he traveled to the future and even seeing the destruction he saw he still continued on his path till his arrest leaving him stuck in a cell hallucinating due to the crystals that were infused in his body. Like a junky Pietro had a clear moment when the crystals finally ran their course though him he saw that he had his powers once more.


Repowered and now divorced he began to rebuild his life, trying to do good to fix all the bad he had done. He was asked by the Mighty Avengers who was run by Hank Pym to join them, he refused but saw Wanda in their group and wanted to accept, but Hank refused sticking to Pietro’s original answer. He began to chase them around the world helping when he could to prove himself to them, even though the only reason he was doing this was to see Wanda who since the events of M day he had not seen since. Pietro eventually returned the crystals after facing a Inhuman named the Unspoken, he lied about his actions, saying he was a Skrull, only a few people know the truth, that being Luna his daughter, who keeps the secret out of love for her father, Hank and Jarvis.

Pietro became a teacher at the Avengers Academy taking a young girl known as Finesse under his wing, first due to blackmail and eventually out of like for the girl when she realised she did not want to be like Magneto but more like him. During the war between the Avengers and the X-Men over Hope and the phoenix force Pietro joined the fight briefly by attacking Magneto.


When Pietro goes to the aid of Polaris who had gotten drunk and began to demolish a bar, and after getting shot at by her he knocked her out, before he could apprehend her the police showed up and took her instead. Out of worry Pietro eventually tracked her down to Serval Industries, a company that bought the X-Factor name and hired Polaris to be their hero, Pieotr joined the team along with Gambit.

Running, it was often the only thing he did, there was no sound as he ran, he moved fast than sound leaving it behind. He felt his heart though, pumping the blood though him his lungs moving taking the little air around him and pushing it though his system, the was built for speed, the tendons and muscles in his legs like springs, his bones like steal, able to take the force of his feet hitting the ground that would break a normal man’s leg. His brain processed everything better too, able to act on an instant to the changing world around him, turn at a ninety degree angle, avoid the world around him as if it was stopped in time.



The down side? He could never stop it. Pietro lived in a world where everyone around him was slowed to a crawl, and the world could not speed up to match him, no he had to slow down for them, every move he made, every word he said, slowed down for those around him, it grated on his nerves. No one likes to be inconvenienced, they liked their life to run smooth without interruptions, the did not like the traffic jams, the people in lines who took forever to figure out what they wanted, waiting for that one web page to load, no, they wanted things now, they would never understand what it is like to have to slow everything you did just to be heard.



Pietro had been living most his life like this, well, until that day, the day he helped cause, the day he ruined lives the day he ruined his own, M Day. The first time since he was a child that he felt so slow, it has driven him crazy, he did crazy things, made people hate him, but he had his powers back, people still hated him but he could live with that. Other people’s opinion of him never mattered, he was a Maximoff and all he needed was Wanda’s approval and he was fine.



Pietro just ran, no direction, no destination, he was just running clearing his thoughts. It was then something happened, he did not see or hear it, but he felt it, it was like being hit by one of Wanda’s hex bolts. He felt the pavement next, he turned to roll, protect his neck and head, he could feel his costume tear, his flesh next, he scrambled to get onto his feet, to stop himself from getting hurt more. He eventually stopped, he moved to stand his body protesting in the moment, hiss first reaction was to check the damage, see if he could patch himself up or go see a healer, but that was all pushed to the back of his head when he saw the sky.



Lights filled the sky, something Pietro had not seen since he was child back in the wilderness of Europe and he saw the Northern Lights. But this was wrong, he watched the light show and how it seemed to encase the city. Panic, Pietro felt panic. He raced off again heading to the end of the City of New York, his mind was on high alert; he could not be trapped. He stopped at the edge and reached out only to meet force. His worst fear was met, he was trapped. His next action was to check on Wanda, if he was going to be trapped, for his sanity and the sanity of others she should still be in New York with him.
