Why do people always assume I'm lying?

Being trapped in a dimension was a pain. Especially when one was meant to be saving the world back home. So he had to use whatever tools were at his finger tips. And at the moment, that was the library. He had already questioned Ikol and the bird had told him all he knew. Or at least all that he was willing to say. So there was really only one other place to go and that had lead the trickster to stand here. By the library. It was rather empty. Probably because people were still panicking and probably believing this to be the end of the world. At least he knew different and as such, was calm enough to do and do his research.
Walking into the building, he looked around. Hoping that there may be some books on magic (as it was back home), he started to move along the silent shelves. So very few people were in here. He was left to peace. Ikol flew after him and as soon as he was from sight and sound, the trickster started to whisper to the magpie. "We need something that might include dimensions or magic, Ikol. We have to get back," He whispered. "I know what we need to look for. I have more knowledge on this than you," Ikol replied and he took to his wings. Loki sighed and watched the bird leave. He hoped they would have some luck this time. He needed to get back and save the world. Well, there was nothing for it. He had to go and find the books.
Setting off in the opposite direction to Ikol, he looked through the books, searching for anything to do with magic or science. There had to be something here. He sighed. Politics, Geography, Physiology... The list went on and on. Yet no magic books. This would not stand in Asgard. Still, the sound of wings heralded Ikol's arrival. Looking up at the bird, he merely had to cock his head before the magpie spoke. "This way, Loki. The books may not be magic but the mortal physics includes dimensions. If you start there, I can look for anything these mortals have that may pass for magic, although I doubt there will be anything better than what I can tell," He said and Loki nodded, following the bird to the pile of books. They had been set out on a table and he guessed that someone else had looked here first. That didn't fill him with confidence but he settled down to read, all the same.

Stephen stops in front of the large building that housed the New York Public Library and moved his gloved hands to adjust his shirt a little to keep the amulet hidden from the public view. He noticed there weren’t as many people standing around the library as usual and makes his way up the stairs into the building. He wasn’t as surprised when he found the inside basically empty and sighs as he expected maybe some more people, but shrugs it off as he walked around to see if he can find the newspaper archives or someone to point the way to it. He heard the sound of a cart being pushed as he drew closer to the shelves and turned to see a frail old lady, which he assumed to be the librarian, and walked over to her. He nodded his head as he speaks to her “Good day Madam, could you point me the way to where the archives.” He requested of her.
He thanked her as she pointed the way to his location and turns back around in the direction he was heading. He stops suddenly as for a second he thought he sensed a magic presence, but lightly brushed it off. He looked over and noticed he stopped by a few health books and felt his hands begin to ache again as he decided to keep walking. He passed several tables and noticed one with a pile of books on it as he can see someone was doing some research, and then notices a boy walking to the table. It takes him a few seconds to recognize who he was looking at and frowns suddenly. He heard about it back in his own timeline and dimension, but doesn’t think this is the same one, so he needs to be on guard. It could be one of his tricks as he closes his eyes to let his amulet start to appear and rest along his neck. A slight precaution just in case he decides to pull one of his tricks or does something while he is here.

Working through the books, the child found these heavy readings and spent most of his time trying to figure out what on earth it was saying. The child muttered to himself under his breath, completely annoyed with the lack of use. Why did they not have any practical information for travelling between dimensions. With a frown upon his face he went to see what they had to say on realms. The older stuff didn't have anything. More recent books (within his brother's arrival on earth) were more interested in the idea of realms. At least he managed to narrow the books down to two instead of the pile of five. Taking a seat, he continued to read through these books with as much dedication as he could. He needed to get to the bottom of this. He needed a way back home.
"Loki!" The voice of Ikol came and the trickster looked up as the bird flew overhead and landed on the large pile of unuseful books. "Have you found the books on magic yet, Ikol?" He asked under his breath, mindful not to attract attention by appearing to talk to himself. "That doesn't matter now, Doctor Strange is here." The bird said and the trickster's head rose, looking up in concern. Ikol gestured with his beak and green eyes followed until he saw the man. "Do you know if I've been noticed, Ikol?" He asked and the bird gave a little shake of his head. Right. So Ikol didn't know if he had been spotted. That left a few options open to consider, at least.
He could try and sneak away from the sorcerer supreme - which could get him noticed and would do his reputation no good if he was spotted. He could stay here and play ignorant or he could approach Doctor Strange. Each thing had it's merits. Sneaking, he decided against first as there were just more negatives. Which left the two other options. Play innocent and he might manage to avoid any confrontation. Or he could try and see if he could get information from the man. But he couldn't risk the scene it would cause? Could he? The young trickster didn't want to create a fight. He couldn't win if that was the case. The boy rubbed his face with his hand. Perhaps if he approached honestly? He looked at the door, wondering how quickly he could make it if things went wrong. Not fast enough.
But he couldn't remain stuck here and the sorcerer might even have something to help. So he got down from his chair, hood raised to keep him partly hidden (his circlet gave away who he was to those clued in) and the black coat keeping his Asgardian gear from sight. He walked forwards, slowly and hands in the open. As he approached Doctor Strange, he pressed his lips together, thinking of what he could say. "I'm guessing you've recognised me," He settled on as he came to a halt, still holding his hands in plain sight.

He originally decided not to bother the shrunken trickster as he wasn’t in the mood to play with whatever games he may have in mind, if he walked up to him. He still had his own agendas, and he didn’t seem to be bothering anyone for the moment, so decided to continue on his own pace. He started to hear small footsteps coming from behind him and his pace started to slow, before stopping fully. He turned slightly to the side to see the child sized Loki walking up to him with his hands held out to show he was unarmed, but still didn’t trust it, as it didn’t take much to cast a spell.
"I'm guessing you've recognised me,"
He heard him say to him and returns it with a slight not of his head “I have, I am not so easily fooled.” He stated towards him as he fully turned so he would be facing him. He knew he felt a faint magic presence earlier, but as he looked to him, he barely sensed any from him than usual. He was beginning to wonder if this was one of his tricks and doesn’t let it show on his face as he kept his neutral look as he glanced down to him.
After a few seconds of silence he decided to speak again towards him “I’m guessing from you being here, that you didn’t have a hand in helping with the events that just unfolded.” He already knew this was the work of Thanos and the infinity gauntlet, but the stealing of the gems was still a mystery and getting a little bit of information on the subject can be helpful for getting out. He did have a few other questions, but needed to confirm this first and foremost.

Being careful, he knew that even with his hands in plain sight, he wouldn't be trusted. Magic was too easy to use quickly and without the hands. As the man spoke, the small trickster pressed his lips together. So his action had been a wise choice. He hadn't gone unnoticed. "It's just meant to fool those who would panic," Loki replied in defence of his little disguise that he had. Plus it added onto him being good. Sort of. He was at least not trying to make the Midgardians panic. That had to count for something, didn't it? His gaze shifted to Ikol. He hoped that they could get through this safely.
At the question, the boy brightened up somewhat. So he wasn't suspected by Doctor Strange? That was a good start. He already had some heroes on his side (well, on his side meaning not trying to kill him) and if he could get a powerful magic user, then he was all set to go. If he could keep Osborn in the equation, he might well be able to get everyone back home soon. He just wasn't going to speak about his plans too soon. Not until he had more data and some idea of how to beat the infinity gems. That was definitely going to acquire power that he did not have.
"Indeed. I have done nothing to create this little pocket dimension. And instead I am trying to get back to my own home, which no doubt, almost everyone is trying to do," The boy said, still barely moving and keeping his hands open and in plain sight. It wasn't much but every little helped. "I don't suppose that you would have been able to find a way out," The boy said, keeping out the question in the tone because he figured that this way he would have a better chance at getting an answer. People loved to prove themselves better and also they preferred not giving information to a known supervillain. Even if said Supervillain was reformed and reborn. It was rather annoying but Loki could cope. He would just have to play the game to see what information he could get. After all, he did need to get home to help his brother defeat a fear serpent.

He looked down towards the child trickster and kept the slight distrust he had for him still hidden. He didn't want to alert the boy and kept himself in his usual relaxed posture as he listen to the explanation on why he kept himself hidden. He can understand the reasoning behind it and the logic as well, but he points out to him "I can understand why you decide to do it. Your reputation of the past is quite poor, but others may see it differently, as if you try to hide your identity, you may make others more suspicious of you." He tries to impart a little wisdom, to someone despite his age now, is far older then he is.
He noticed when Loki seem to be happier at his assessment of him not being apart of what has occurred to them. "Indeed. I have done nothing to create this little pocket dimension. And instead I am trying to get back to my own home, which no doubt, almost everyone is trying to do," He mentally focused on the amulet and can tell he wasn't lying to him. He didn't want to spend the whole conversation trying to discern his lies, so being truthful from the start is a good sign.
He can see he was still holding his hand out to him as to show he means no harm. He decides to address that "You can place your hands down, we both know if you wanted to use magic, it will not be needed. Even if you had a weapon you, I think you be at a disadvantage." he starts "From the amount of magic I sensed earlier, I have a feeling we both know what the outcome would of been if you tried to pull one of your tricks on me." He spoke normally, he didn't have a hint of warning or a threat to it, just as if he made a simple observation. He knew of the experience is vastly different, but he knew he could handle it if it came to it.
"I don't suppose that you would have been able to find a way out,"
He heard the question that was hidden within his words about his own studies on trying to find a way out. He decides not to point it out to him as he took a couple of seconds to think it over, on how much he should reveal to the trickster. He didn't have his full trust, but can impart some knowledge as he speaks to him "I haven't yet, the most I was able to figure is how much of the city is trapped under this dome and how high it goes, since this dimension is just limited to the city." He saw no harm in giving this much, since it wasn't really much.

Lips pressed together as Strange spoke, somewhat against his disguise choice. "Well, if I keep my identity hidden, then they won't recognise me and then we still don't have to worry about any panicking, do we?" He said, his voice slightly cheeky and definitely sounding like a twelve year old. A smile touched the edge of his lips as he looked at the sorcerer. A small part of him refused to allow the man to have the last word. The trickster suspected it was because that would show a sign of weakness.
Close green eyes remained on the man, even as light as he was when talking. Caution was needed and as young as he was he knew this. Even if the man seemed to trust him, he would not trust him. After all, despite being a villain of the heroes, he had managed to trust the archeress and Captain America but the sorcerer was different. Loki had been a villain to use magic and here was a hero of a similar kindred. They used the same power and for that reason, he felt that he had more reason to be cautious of this man yet he had greater reason to have to talk to him. Who better than Doctor Strange to play the hero and sort this all out?
As soon as the man said he could place his hands down he did. They both knew that he barely had any magic inside him. His lips pressed together at this. "Good to see that we are all on the same page," He simply said, acting as if he wasn't in the least bit concerned about the fact that he was now the weaker of the two. Appearances and words were just as important as the power, he had long since learned. If he could trick someone into believing he held some cards it gave him a lot of leverage.
The question got some information but it wasn't anything that the trickster was hoping for. He had figured this much out already. "Is that all you've figured out?" He asked, feigning complete surprise and acting as if he believed this man had nothing else to contribute. Come one, the sorcerer had to know a way back home. He was Doctor Strange, Earth's Sorcerer Supreme! Or maybe the boy was simply being too hopeful. He rubbed his eyes, once again pretending but this time to be slightly disheartened as he let his shoulder slump. "So you don't know a way back. At all," At the end of the day, Loki had his tricks and the little trickster would use them to get any information to bring everyone one and so he could go back to where he came from and help defeat the Serpent.

"Well, if I keep my identity hidden, then they won't recognise me and then we still don't have to worry about any panicking, do we?"
He raised a slight brow as the child trickster words about staying hidden from everyone else. He decides to speak lightly on the subject of it "I was speaking more about the other Avengers, who may see through your disguise. There are some that may act towards you with suspicion. This is your choice though, just remember what I said on it." he nods his slightly afterwards as he moved to fold his arms behind him, then goes back to speaking about what he knows, which was basically the dome barrier around New York City.
"Is that all you've figured out?"
He figured this question would come up after his brief and very limited explanation of what he knew. He didn't really have much to reveal or tell. He can see the trickster becoming sad from his answer, but light speaks "Unfortunate as it is, this is all I have to offer at this time." he has plenty of theories he could toss out, but he rather have something to back up his words.
"So you don't know a way back. At all,"
He felt the weight of the statement press down on his shoulders. He knew people were going to look towards him for some answers eventually. He gives a heavy sigh as he speaks "Sorry, I don't know a way back at all. If I did, I would not be here, but opening several doorways to get us back to our proper places." he looks to Loki as he speaks "This is done by Thanos and the infinity gauntlet, it would not be so easy to unravel in meer weeks. I wish it were so, but it will take time." he gives a little smile "The only good thing, is that's what we have plenty of, time."

Avoiding getting blamed for his past crimes was one of the biggest thngs for the young trickster. His choice of clothes left him recognisable and some teenagers were never too willing to ask questions first and punch later. He had already avoided one group before his disguise. Now he intended to avoid all those who might be out with a lust for his blood. "I'll remember, but trying living with the reputation that I've ended up," Loki said with a slight laugh to his voice, trying to turn it into a joke of sorts. It was a tough life for him but it was nothing short of what he deserved. His former self had committed crimes, he just wished that he didn't have to pay for them like this. It made it so hard to try and build a new life.
Listening to what Doctor Strange had to say, his attention never wavered. Meeting with the Avengers and Osborn had all been very well but it wasn't finding him a way. He went to sit down on a chair near the magician, moving slowly just to make sure he didn't cause any concern. He didn't want to get attacked. Right now he needed to figure out whether he should tell the man what he knew. If Doctor Strange got extra information, surely that would help. But wouldn't the man already know that Thanos and the infinity gems were involved. Ikol did and he was a bird. Which suggested Strange was holding information back from him. Which was sensible, to be fair. Loki knew that he did a fair bit of holding back.
His thoughts were proved correct when Doctor Strange spoke again, taking away the small bit of hope that he hadn't even bothered to cling to. Loki nodded. Right. Trapped and looking for a way back. Just like everyone else. Thanos' work was powerful. It was going to take time. The trickster frowned and leaned back on his chair so the front legs rose from the ground, then he leaned back forwards, fingers touching and hands resting on his knees. "It'll take time, but two heads are better than one, right?" He commented, wondering how far the man would go with trusting him. "Do you think I would be able to offer any assistance?" His voice and question was honest. He did want to get home and he wanted to help everyone to return, so everyone could be on the same page. So that he could see his brother again. It mattered.

He nods his head slightly when he says he'll remember what he he told him. Hopefully there are some heroes that won't jump to conclusions as he saw the little trickster go over and pull up a chair and make himself comfortable. He believes he'll do the same as he walks over towards the table that has some chairs about it and pulls one off to the side. He could of used his magic to summon one or start levitating, but he didn't want to abuse his magic. He sits down on the chair and leans back slightly on it to get comfortable as his gloved hands fold in front of him.
"It'll take time, but two heads are better than one, right?"
He closed his eyes for a second at the offer, and thinks it over in his mind. The main issue to all this is he didn't trust him with such things. He has learn so far from their conversation, he has been honest as the eye hasn't reacted to any deception.
"Do you think I would be able to offer any assistance?"
He quietly thought over the question in his mind. He did sense Loki's magic was as it once was in the past, and had to think over. He opened his eyes finally after a time of thinking and says to him "In the future you may be able to provide some. As I said, what I have isn't much to go on at this time." he brings his hand down to rest it in his lap.
He slightly leans forward in the chair as he looks towards Loki and speaks "I do know you are sincere on your want to help. We all want to escape this world as with everyone else trapped here." he leans back in his chair as he looked to him "Tell me, what have you discovered so far? Maybe I can learn something from your own observations, that I may have missed."

Now seated, green eyes followed the sorcerer as he got a chair. Without the use of magic, he noted. Loki's attention focused on this. The man still had magic. He knew that Loki had nothing and that required a certain amount of mystic skill. In short, Loki didn't believe that the man had picked up the chair rather than summoned it for lack of magic. Did he perhaps consider that he should limit his usage? Power corrupts. The child knew this. That was why his own magical powers had been reduced. He could not allow himself to be corrupted. Both he and Ikol couldn't let such a thing happen.
It took time for Doctor Strange to consider his proposal, the offer of help. Loki suspected as much. No one was ever too willing to work with him, especially if they were on the side that was often deemed to be the good side. But finally he spoke and the boy gave a friendly smile. "Of course. I understand. It takes time. But if you need any help, I want to get home as much as anyone else." He hoped that his later words would help convince the man that he could work with the boy. Even if he was bad, he would do what he could to get home. Anyone working with him would just have to be more careful.
It seemed that he didn't have to worry about the man not knowing that he was sincere. No doubt the man was using a subtle form of magic. Loki knew that his lies were usually impossible to unravel when he wanted to have it that way. And his evil self would be telling a pure and indistinguishable lie. "Like you, I've realised that Thanos is the cause. It also seems that people are coming from different time points," He didn't mention the part about different dimensions. He still wasn't one to trust all the details to someone else. Only the bare minimum. Plus, it would be interesting to see if Doctor Strange would notice that he was holding back some information. No sign of this came across his features at all. He kept the omission well hidden.
