"Don't you even!"
Kate exclaimed at him, he couldnt help but flinch at the tone of her voice. There was anger in her tone, Tony allowed himself to fall back on his butt. His back moving against the wall across from her. This was something he was never good at, dealing with people when they broke down. Or in this case he broke them down. In his defence he didnt know her or how much of her own secrets she knew. He had wanted to push buttons but now he had gone to far. So for once in his life he shut his mouth and sat back. Tony brought his knees up to his chest and draped his arms over them.
He listened to her words and how worried she was over Clint. It was the type of worry he wondered if anyone felt for him besides Pepper. His blue hues fell from her face as he tried to collect the right words to say. It would be an understatement to say he was uncomfortable, he wanted a drink or to get up and run away from her and her issues. But he stayed put moving his hands together over his knees.
"The Clint I know would be okay, he would figure it out. He would find his way out of it or around it. Its not your fault that hes there. You didnt get asked to be pulled in here." His words where almost for himself as well. He felt as if he should be telling himself this. "You cant control what happens on the out side now, all you can do is change what is going on in here. Clint would want you too go on, to do what you did. Set up the tower et things settled." His voice trailed off, he was no good at this.
Tony stood slowly from his seat on the floor. Looking down at the girl he had just broken he let out a small sigh. It wasnt easy for him to not add humour to things. He needed to lighten the mood, at least for himself. "In my defence I had no idea about your dad. Or that he would do such a thing and you wouldnt know about it." With one last look down at her the door bell to the space rang. Tony made his way to get the pizza and pay the man for the delivery. It was about five minute until he returned to Kate. Holding out the pizza to where she was he lifted a brow. "Pizza and a nap that was the deal kid."

Maybe it’s not my weekend but it’s gonna be my year and I’m so sick of watching all the minutes pass as I go nowhere. This is my reaction to everything I fear.
Kate could hear her heartbeat in her head. She tried desperately to still herself but it wasn't helping. She didn't know what she was going to do right. It was worthless and pointless for Kate to deny that she was scared. It hadn't taken long for all the fences and walls that she had built to come crashing down, but that was mostly because Tony could push her buttons. He seemed to work out fast how she worked and that freaked her out a lot. Maybe it was the reason she was starting to hate him so much so fast?
He was making a miserable attempt to fix it.
That was the thing though, Clint was a grown ass man, a little bit of a child maybe...they had sat in pjs on a Sunday after a mission on his couch eating cereal and watching Spongebob one too many times than was okay for an adult but still he could look after himself. He was an Avenger. He was an Avenger for a reason and sure he was a dude with no powers cowboying around with demi gods and super soldiers with a stick that shot other sticks from the palaeolithic era but he could hold his own against them. He was the best Avenger of them all.
He would kill her if he found out what a mess she was. 'Stand fast, hold you're ground you're doing great kid' why was his voice still there trying to push her on. In all honesty that was what Clint did. When she'd met him for the first time he had taken her bow. He had beat her in a shoot out, taken her bow. He had told her to go home. To leave the name at the door. Kate had done just that, sat at home and decided in that moment she wanted it more than anything else she had. She'd broken into his apartment, taken it back, took her name and her bow back and he had just smiled. Told her she was doing okay, to keep taking shots. That he would have her back. He promised he always would.
She didn't blame him for breaking that promise, they couldn't see this coming but it still stung.
Kate didn't get up, she just shook her head at Tony. “It's funny how the people that you'd take a bullet for are normally the ones holding the trigger.” She should have known. It felt like this was the kinda thing that would happen, when it came to Kate Bishop fate always seemed to fall short of the target. The smell of pizza hit her first, she looked up at him and didn't say anything for a moment before nodding her head, pizza and a nap sounded incredible. “Fine. Pizza and a nap...and I wanna know what else you can find in those computers...I want to know what I'm dealing with.”
this could be all I’ve waited for, and this could be everything. I don’t want to dream anymore. Maybe it’s not my weekend but it’s gonna be my year!

“It's funny how the people that you'd take a bullet for are normally the ones holding the trigger.”
It was true, she shouldnt know it at her age. But it was the bloody truth. People that where the closest to you would hurt you the most at times. Stark looked down at her, no longer feeling all that good about himself or there encounter. He wasnt used to dealing with girls this young, and when he did they where naked most of the time. Clearning his throat he held out the pizza box once more. He offered pizza and a nap once more, she seemed to think about his offer for a moment more before she agreed.
Tony raised a brow, "you want more information now?" He wasnt one to argue though, he had been the one to bring it up in the first place after all. Tony nodded towards the room that they had started in, "common then." He said to her from her spot on the ground as he carried the pizza into the kitchen. The screens where still up in front of him. Tony placed the pizza on the contour. Opening the lid of the box he grabbed a piece and folded it topping sides together and then he shoved it into his mouth.
Chewing the bite he had taken he walked over the to screen. Lifting his one hand not holding the food he made a flicking motion with his hand. Information and news stories moved past him. Then pictures of Kates step mom appeared on the screen, Tony stopped chewing and looked at Kate. Mouth half full of food still he spoke, "this is your step mom. Whao." Her father really was a dog and a low life for hooking up with someone who was the same age as his own daughter. Tony didnt linger on the picture for long, flicking to a new picture he took another bite of pizza. "So what do you want to know kid?"

Maybe it’s not my weekend but it’s gonna be my year and I’m so sick of watching all the minutes pass as I go nowhere. This is my reaction to everything I fear. “Yeah, because I want to know who’s ass I’m gonna go kick.” Kate said seriously as she got up from the floor. Someone was gonna pay for what had happened. She was an Avenger with something to Avenge. She knew what Clint would tell her to do, to find the personal responsible and teach them a lesson and that was exactly what she was going to do. Later. Right now there was something bigger to deal with, her personal vendetta could wait a while but that didn’t mean she wasn’t going to take full advantage of the situation and find out as much information as she could. “Other you once told me that winning the fight doesn’t mean you’ve got a bigger stick than everyone else in the playground, it knowing how to use it and where to hit them. I need every bit of information I can get my hands on. ”
Taking a slice of pizza her stomach was just happy that there was finally some kind of food on offer, she took a bite as she watched the information scroll past the screen, of course he would have brought up Heather. She knew he would. How could you not it was the giant elephant in the room and Tony Stark had a way of pointing out said giant elephant every god damned time. “Yeah that’s Heather….we went to the same school….literally….we had English together. Total bitch.” To say Kate disliked Heather would be an understatement but at the same time if that was what he wanted to do then he could go and do it. Who was Kate to say any different. “Most people when they have a midlife crisis buy a motorbike and get a bad haircut…” Kate observed before going back to her pizza.
Damn it was good.
“I want to know why.” She told him between bites. “Long and short of the story is the apartment block we lived in was bought, the Russians have been buying huge amounts of real estate in Bed-Stuy. So they were buying up entire neighbourhoods, hiking the rents and kicking people on to the streets. They tried to kick out Simone, single mom, three kids, out of Clints block and he said no, so he bought the building himself. They were not happy about it. Really not happy…it has to come down to it’s value, everything is about money really…so either they want those buildings for the real estate value or they want the land to do something with it. Just because we’ve been cut off from the world doesn’t mean they’re going to stop with whatever plan they have and there’s thousands of families in those apartments. The area is gentrifying fast and they want to cash in but there’s not way they could have built up enough legit capital for that kind of property take over. So either they have a backer, they have someone money laundering for them or both.” Kate was determined she was going to finish whatever it was Clint had started.
That was kinda their thing anyway. They took care of each other’s business.
this could be all I’ve waited for, and this could be everything. I don’t want to dream anymore. Maybe it’s not my weekend but it’s gonna be my year!

“It's funny how the people that you'd take a bullet for are normally the ones holding the trigger.”
Tony looked slightly confused by the words that left her mouth. He had told her that, but it sounded smart. He was slightly more impressed with the other him now. Tony looked at the other as she pulled herself together and off of the floor all at once. He watched her as she moved, she wanted information and he could get it. He had taunted her with it and now she wanted it to kick someone's ass. He was impressed. He shoved some more pizza into his mouth as he shrugged, mouth still full of pizza he spoke. "Yea we can do that."
She was right about her father, it was a little bit far out there with the girl friend. Tony had his suits, spent a lot of time with the suits. He had Pepper but she was about his age and they had history. He shoved more food in his mouth and reached for another. He didnt really want to talk about her fathers new play toy, it was a wound and he had poured enough salt on her tonight as it was.
Was it horrible that as she spoke all he could here was blah, blah, blah. He was half listening to her, but his blue hues where really on the screen before him. His hand moved as he flicked images across the screen. "You know." He paused as he shoved the last of his second piece into his mouth. "Rents hiked up, people where baught out. It looks like the Russian Mafia, and your father where behind it. When you and Clint got in the way and well Clint beat up those people looks like poor daddy snapped. He was the one who put the hit out on your head, and well Clints."
He paused as his hues snapped over the screen. "This crazy chick in LA, what did you do to piss her off?" She could have been killed in LA, things could have gone way worse then it had. She was lucky, Clint was lucky. "I would beat my suit that your fathers the ring leader behind this all. Well he seems to be a busy little bee, he has his fingers in a lot of pies." Tony spoke not looking at Kate but at the pizza box still sitting open on the table. "So what are you going to do? Go after your dad?"

Maybe it’s not my weekend but it’s gonna be my year and I’m so sick of watching all the minutes pass as I go nowhere. This is my reaction to everything I fear. She was quite content for a moment eating pizza. Kate was starting to forget what actual food tasted like, she couldn't remember the last time that she had just sat down and had something to eat and wasn't doing something. She listened to Tony as he explained what he had found, she didn't say anything. Just leaned against the counter and concentrated on her pizza. Truth was she was mulling it over, she was matching facts up in her head and seeing how it fit into the picture that she already knew. It did. That was what worried her the most.
Then he switched the topic to crazy lady. Oh he didn't know her? She drew in a breath through her teeth before shrugging her shoulders. “How do you even start to describe Madam Masque?” She asked herself. “The bitch is crazy. Basically Shield....they did something pretty fucking terrible, and Clint helped them cover it up to protect the officers that had been involved. There was a tape, a recording of what happened from CCTV...and it got out...” Kate had seen it, it wasn't pretty. The idea that they had doctored footage with Clint murdering someone made her uncomfortable. What made her more uncomfortable was Clint had agreed to let them do it to cover someone elses ass.
“If the tape got out and everyone found out an Avenger had performed assassinations for the US government it would have been a national disaster, and sure it wasn't Clint they just doctored the footage it still looks bad.” Kate paused for a moment and picked up another slice of pizza. “Basically the bad guys got it and were selling it at a private auction, Madam Masque wanted to buy it, Clint had a totally stupid one – to try and buy it. I had a better plan which pretty much involved knocking her out, pretending to be her, buying the tape and then destroying it.” The worst part was it had worked. It worked well. No one has suspected anything until the meddling hotel security had barged into her room unannounced.
“It worked, I got the tape and now she's mega upset with me. I can't see why. I didn't hit her that hard and I left her alive. I was nice about it.” Yeah sure Kate that's how you deal with your problems. “She tried to run me over one time so I took a selfie with the car, to be honest I think that was the moment she lost it.” Well to be honest what kinda person took a selfit with the car trying to run you over. Kids these days. Though it was a good plan really, she got the number plate and her red handed in the act. You always needed proof these days and Kate was an expert at getting said proof.
His next question was a bit more complex, Kate paused for a moment. She took another but of pizza. Her eyes drifted to the window, to Bishop Publishing and she mused on it for a moment. “I know what I'm going to do.” Kate answered, her eyes still on the family building. “I'm going to assure my inheritance is intact by the time he finally lops off this mortal coil.” She was going for the business. “I'm going to take this evidence and it might just you know, end up in someones hand say...the chief operating officer and let nature run it's course. I have enough interests in the company to remain on the inner circle and influence the board.” The sad truth was that Kate was just as manipulative as her father. “If he can't play nice, he can't have nice toys.”

Kate was right, she did sound like a crazy bitch. Not the kind that Tony liked either. He would have to remember to watch that video later when she wasnt around. He couldnt blame her for wanting revenge, if someone hurt the people he was the closest too he would snap as well. Tony just nodded, "we do what we have to do sometimes." He told her, he was being honest. He had done what he had to do in New York. Swallowing and pushing those thoughts from his mind he shifted his height between his feet and picked up his drink from earlier.
The glass still had about a shot and a half in it, lifting the glass up he took all of the liquid back in one gulp. Placing the now empty glass down he looked at her once again. "Take him down, show him two can play this game. If he cant own up and admit what hes done then make damn sure he suffers for it." He had been in her shoes, Obadiah had put a hit on his head. He had suffered for months in a cave, and now he had the metal shards in his chest that could kill him.
"You know, I was in your place once. I dont know how much me and the other Tony as a like. But someone put a hit on my head. I was forced to live in a cave for months, I was supposed to be killed. But they wanted me to live and build them war heads." Tony trailed off remembering the heat of the cave, the fear of waking up with a car battery hooked up to something in his chest. Clearing his throat he looked back to the screen. He tapped the arch reactor in his chest. "I woke up in that cave with this in my chest. Well not this one, but you get it." He muttered his hues on the screen. "When I got back I did what I had to do to keep the people closet to me safe."
He had said too much, clearing his throat again he looked down at his glass and then to the pizza. "Eat up, I dont want it to go bad." He cupped his jaw as he looked to the screen trying to act like he hadnt just said what he had.

Maybe it’s not my weekend but it’s gonna be my year and I’m so sick of watching all the minutes pass as I go nowhere. This is my reaction to everything I fear. A smirk spread across her lips, at least he was operating along the same idea as she was. He wasn’t that different from the Tony that she knew – that was what threw her a little. He was more brash, blunt, he just came out with things and truthfully Kate wondered if he meant to be hurtful with the things that he said or if they just came out completely wrong. Maybe he had no tact. Maybe he was dealing with things badly? After all she had no idea what was going on in his world but she would give him this…he did look younger than her Tony. Maybe he was still early on in his career as an Avenger. He had a long time to grow into role…but he would. She knew it. After all it was Tony. Right?
She broke the smirk though, gave him a soft smile and all of her attention as he spoke, she gave him every bit of attention the story deserved because when people told you thinks like that, they were brave and deserved that attention. To Kate it didn’t really matter that a few minutes ago he had rocked her world, turned it upset down like a bully and shook out all the bad bits for everyone to see. She still at least had respect enough to sit and listen, to sit and not judge. Not do anything. Kate wouldn’t dream of giving him advice or telling him what to do because to be honest it was the last thing she ever would have wanted someone to do for her. Instead she just gave him a soft smile and told him the truth.
“Bad things happen.” Kate stated reaching for another slice of pizza as he gestured towards it. “Bad things happen to good people, they happen to bad people. Doesn’t matter how much you do with your life, how rich you are, how many hours you work in a soup kitchen. Bad things happen…and when they do you are never going to feel safe again…” She knew that feeling all too well…after the attack she had been terrified, she’d cut herself off, laid in her room for weeks and weeks scared that the next time she would stop outside her doors something would happen. “You either let it destroy you….or you make sure no one else ever has to be that way. Isn’t that what we do as Avengers? We keep this world safe so they can go on living without being frightened of what is out there. We fight the bad guys so they get to go home and have dinner with their kids and talk about what they did at school rather than questions about the end of the world…”
She paused for a moment, eating her pizza and looking to be in a state of deep thought before she shrugged her shoulders at him. “We do what we have to in order to do that.”[/don’t]

He cleared his throat as he shifted away from her and closer to the screen. He wasnt good at opening up, but she didnt make it worse. All she did was nod, as if his words had somehow helped. Maybe they hadnt and she was just trying to be nice to him. But for some reason it gave him a little comfort to know that she would listen if he did in fact ever want to open up. But that wouldnt happen, he was a hot mess and had no idea how to ever start to clean up his act. He had to be forced to get better before and now, he was alone and a little bit lost.
She was right, but he didnt nod. Bad things did happen to people everyday. But they also happened to bad people too. Karma was a bitch that way, well if he believed in such things. He made a humming sound in his throat as his eyes never left the words before him, he had already read it all and had processed it. But it felt good to act as if he was distracted. Was she right? Was he letting the things that had happened destroy him? He was afraid to go there, he was afraid of what kind of mess he would be if she saw him break down again.
But how could he forget? Let go of it all? Aliens had come to Earth, he hadnt been ready. Pepper could have been hurt if she had been home, Loki could have taken her from him. He could have lost the things he lived for. But the worst was not knowing. How had it happened? How could it be explained? He didnt have the answers, that was the things that kept him up, that kept him drinking. He couldnt explain how and why it happened, he couldnt show how Thor got to this world. He felt his heart rate picking up, he turned slightly away from Kate. His breath coming out fast as he squeezed his eyes shut.
She made it sound so easy, it wasnt. Tony didnt dare speak as he kept his body turned away from the archer. He acted as if he was looking to another screen. Sir, elevated heart rate detected. J.A.R.V.I.S said to the room and Tony just about snapped, in stead he let out the breath he had been holding and tried to make it a small laugh in stead. "I clearly need to recalibrate you." Tony said in a light hearted tone, his eyes opening as he fought to calm himself. Sir, I am running fi- Tony cute off the voice, "mute"
"Your right." Was all he mused to her as he turned back towards her. His blood still pumping through his veins a mile a minute. "We do anything to keep the world safe." Tony said to her, if only she knew what those words truly mean. He said only to himself. "Anything else? Ready for that nap? I am sure you already have a bed you use while your here."

Maybe it’s not my weekend but it’s gonna be my year and I’m so sick of watching all the minutes pass as I go nowhere. This is my reaction to everything I fear. She recognised that look. Kate tilted her head to the side or a moment and watched him with a almost sad look on her face before she spoke up. “For what it's worth Tony, I know that look...” sure she had been young when she had it, when she'd felt the crushing fear of dying in her chest, it felt like a heart attack intertwined with drowning and when you realised it was you causing it...well it was almost worse. How could your own mind screw you over like that? How could your entire body do that to you? When it came down to it most people didn't understand. No one in Kates life did but then again...no one had noticed. Her sister at boarding school, her father off around the world on business there had been no one there to notice a fourteen year old kid curled up in the corner terrified of every creek and crack and whine of the old building settling into it's foundations.
"And it's okay, I think it's okay to be completely weirded out by everything I mean...there's no grey hair so I guess you're a little younger than the Tony I know...but you're an amazing Avenger." And it totally was okay, because she was freaked out by it and at the end of the day if she was freaked out and then it was okay. The hard part was everyone here was going to be freaked out by what was happening. Kate was normally the one on the team that was completely unphased by what was going on. When the apocalypse came she was the one standing there with a smile and a snarky comment, she was the one who knew what to do and that everyone on her team turned to. It made her feel uneasy to think of how she had been before.
"Yeah sure, this is fucked up, this is utterly insane even by my universes standards I mean...I've been an Avenger since I was like fifteen...that's like six years and this is by far the craziest thing I've ever seen and I once fought a monster who could mind control all the adults in the multi-verse into trying to eat us. So the benchmark is set pretty high for fucking crazy but...it's going to be okay. We're Avengers. We'll work out what it is and we'll get it sorted out. We always do." Kate had faith, she unwavering faith and loyalty to the Avengers...they fixed things, that was what they had done time and time again. Sure, there were times where they had come close to it but it had never happened. They always sorted it out - that was why the world was still here.
"Totally, I'm going to bed, don't worry I know the way. No ones to wake me up unless the world ends...for real." She save him a smile, picked up her quiver and bow. The purple fletched arrows rattled as she put the quiver over her shoulder and held her bow. She gave him a nod before heading off down the corridor. "Thanks for the pizza." Kate said, turning back around and yelling down the corridor to him. "And I mean it. Don't wake me up unless the world has ended!" Kate Bishop planned on being dead to the world for a while.
this could be all I’ve waited for, and this could be everything. I don’t want to dream anymore. Maybe it’s not my weekend but it’s gonna be my year!
