Maybe it’s not my weekend but it’s gonna be my year and I’m so sick of watching all the minutes pass as I go nowhere. This is my reaction to everything I fear. The world was falling apart. New York City had always felt like it was on the edge but even ,ore so now. They were on the edge of disaster, they were sitting there waiting to fall over into chaos and right now there were roughly five people trying to hold it together. Avengers teams were normally a little bigger than that. There was nothing more they could do then work with what they had, Kate had tried to make the best of it and that meant sacrificing some of the luxuries the Avengers had been used to….like their super computer tower. It wasn’t as if Stark would have minded right? He might be a little pissed about her going though his computers, deleing programming to pick up space and completely wrecking the computer room with a hasty rewire job but surely if it was in the good of the city…?
Who was she kidding Kate knew he was going to go off his nut. If he ever showed up. The tower was still quiet, most of the functions were off, only the one lift working and her Avengers Card gave her easy access to the huge majority of the building. Kate almost fell asleep in the elevator on the way up, she was tired, exhausted even and the work just wouldn’t stop but she needed to check this place was still up and running. The tower was the only thing that was keeping the city propped up right now and if that fell apart everything was going to go to hell in a hand basket.
Something wasn’t right though…someone had been here, the smashed bits of building and glass told enough of a story for her to be on guard. Slowly she moved though the hall way, against the wall her hand reaching for an arrow as she tried to avoid making a sound by stepping on shattered glass. Knocking the arrow she drew it back partway before turning the corner and taking on a stance. She was a textbook picture perfect example of brilliance with a bow. Her hand pulled the string back further anchoring it under her chin, she could feel the purple string against her lips as she narrowed her eyes as she fell upon a figure in the room.
Kate was about to say something totally terrifying that would have struck fear into the heart of anyone, then the recognition kicked in. She moved her arm up, let go and planted the arrow in an already damaged part of the wall before feeling relief wash though her. It’s alright. Tony was back. Iron Man and Captain America were here. It feel like Avengers were turning up all the time…..even Bucky was around but….well he wasn’t really Bucky. That still left a bad taste in her mouth.
“Tony? Where the hell have you been!” There was no hello or how are you, instead just worried urgency. “The city is pretty much in chaos…we were looking all over for you…” Sitting her bow down she ran a hand down her face, she just wanted something to eat and a nap. A long nap on one of his comfortable couches. One of those 9 hour naps that normal people had at night while Hawkeye was busy in the skies of New York City. Instead she let herself collapse on the couch – after checking there was no stray shards of glass – leaned her head back and closed her eyes before snapping them open again a few moments later. “Don’t touch anything. Don’t touch the computers, don’t touch the serves, don’t touch anything…don’t even make a poptart…the systems in this tower are the only thing keeping this city alive at the moment…and they’re delicate.”
Like telling Tony not to touch his own stuff was going to go down well.
this could be all I’ve waited for, and this could be everything. I don’t want to dream anymore. Maybe it’s not my weekend but it’s gonna be my year!

To say he was rattled would be an under statement, to say he was panicked was another. What was he to do? He had no idea where everyone was or where he was. Making the best of things for the millionaire mechanic meant getting to work, when things fell a part he was there to put it back together better then ever. The kitchen was one of the places in the house that wasnt completely destroyed, so after he had taken off the one thing he knew he had for sure he left the suit behind for more casual clothes. The older man could feel himself relaxing as he stood over the plans of his building, well what looked like his building. Bringing a hand up he ran it down the side of his face, he could feel the scruff from the hair growing back in. His blue hues moved over the blue prints trying to figure out how to change it and make it better, bigger and something Pepper would be proud of. No matter how hard J.A.R.V.I.S tried he couldnt get a hold of her. There was a hopelessness in his chest that seemed to grow each and every time he got distracted or thrown off track. His hand fell to lay on the plains once more.
Twang!
“Tony? Where the hell have you been!”
Spinning on the spot he put his back to the table he had just been staring down at, he knew the sound of an arrow passing by. There was a woman before him, she was dressed in purple and held a bow in her hand. She set it down as if the threat had been handled. But by the look of her stance and the way her eyes had shone with determination she reminded him of Hawkeye. Tony stood there stunned not saying a word, at least she sounded relived to see him and wasn't some crazy woman here to tell him he was a dog. He knew that there where different people in the city and that he had a lot of people to meet apparently. He watched as the younger girl made herself at home on his couch, closing his mouth which had been hanging open he tilted his head slightly.
"Cause my wall wasn't broken enough? You had to make sure it was dead? Well good job, it's dead." He said as he pointed up to the spot on the wall where the arrow had hit, hie head straightening. Tony didnt even answer her questions, he didn't want to because he didn't have the answers yet. He had no idea and he wasnt willing to share that with another stranger. "Oh and now you are going to try to tell me what to do. If you havent heard already I don't play well with others and people say I am reckless. Now if you wouldn't mind leaving and never coming back I would really appreciate that." His hand fell away from pointing at the arrow and to his side, who was she to tell him not to touch his stuff. "I have to reboot my systems and fix my house, as you may have noticed I fell through it."
Turning his back on the girl in purple he turned back to the plains on the table, pulling out a marker he went about making a note on the margin about reinforcing the roof supports. Dropping the pen onto the table he leaned forward, both of his hands supporting him where made into fists. "Look, I don't know you. I kind of had a bad day so if you could just not, that would be great." He said to her as he let his head hang and his eyes close for a moment. How was he supposed to be after finding out that he was stuck here? That he had just fought with Pepper and left her without warning. Would she think he was dead again, Tony gave a small shake to his head. "Go find someone else to both and another computer to mess up.

Maybe it’s not my weekend but it’s gonna be my year and I’m so sick of watching all the minutes pass as I go nowhere. This is my reaction to everything I fear.
It was just an arrow the man needed to calm down. “I'm good for the damages Stark.” Kate said with her trademark smirk, it was Hawkeye thing, there was a reason she had the name though the exact ones you would have She just wished he had kept his mouth shut though, the glare she gave him could have killed, it was the same look she gave Clint when he wanted her to do something stupid for her, like being the get away driver in a robbery. Yeah no. To hell with that. “Oh boo hoo you had a bad day encase you haven't noticed we all have. We're all trapped in this city with eight point three million cut off with the universe literally colliding in on yourself...but it's all okay and none of that matters because you had a bad day. ” That came out a lot more angry than she expected but she was completely and utterly furious with him right now.
How was this happening. The world was falling apart and Kate was trying to cling to what little pieces they had left to try and save this place and even those were falling apart. In all honesty she was too tired for this, she looked exhausted and all of it was showing on her face, the way she carried herself, the fact that she was throwing what almost was a massive tantrum. “Don't you dare touch those computers, I will put you down if I have to right now this tower coupled to Bishop Publishing is the only thing holding this city together! Cap and I did not spend all night doing this for you to ruin it!” That was the thing, she was ruining all their hard work. All the things they had done to try and keep this place from descending into something out of the Walking Dead.
“All the telephone lines are down, Cap and I managed to get this place onto the grid so it can handle and route the 911 calls so people can still contact emergency services but it's only just holding together. We had to take most of the tower systems off line to accommodate the call flow. The city is in chaos Stark and the vast majority of the Avengers are still missing so don't you dare touch them!” She meant it. Absolutely. She might not have picked up her bow but she could reach it and shoot him faster than he gave her credit for. That was the thing with Tony he'd never really taken the Young Avengers seriously. They were little mascots. Cap on the other hand knew exactly what they were capable of...which was why he was nervous of them. Billy was one of the most powerful beings in existence, you did not piss about with that.
Then he dealt a deciding blow.
I don't know you
Kate almost recoiled from him, she dragged her hands down her face, sighed and then sniffled. This was the worst thing that could have happened right now. A Tony Stark that wasn't their Iron Man? As much as her and Tony had never got on he was needed, they needed their Tony here because he could help fix this. He could help get the city back up and running...instead they had this. “I know its hard....and I know it must be fucking terrifying to be thrown in to another world...and we all have people we are scared for...my team is missing, Clint is missing and the last thing I know was someone had a gun to his head....but right now there is a city of people screaming for help...and we have to put them first, we have to do the right thing.” It definitely sounded like tears. “And Avengers Tower is the only thing keeping this place going.”
this could be all I’ve waited for, and this could be everything. I don’t want to dream anymore. Maybe it’s not my weekend but it’s gonna be my year!

“Oh boo hoo you had a bad day encase you haven't noticed we all have. We're all trapped in this city with eight point three million cut off with the universe literally colliding in on yourself...but it's all okay and none of that matters because you had a bad day. ”
His heart raced and he could feel himself feeling sick right away as her words sunk in. He was trapped, he couldn't get out. He was stuck in another universe, he couldn't get away and out. Sir, your heart rate is rising too quickly you need to breathe before you have another attack. J.A.R.V.I.S's voice came through the ear piece that Tony always had in his ear. His next breath came out in a sort of laboured huff as he tried to calm his body down and away from another attack like he had had just hours earlier. He couldn't respond to the growth on his couch, he had to concentrate on his breathing. Soon it was normal again and she was already talking. Now facing her he could see her reactions and her body movements.
"You and Cap did this? The guy hardily knows how to plug in a phone let alone reroute the whole city's emergency systems?" His hand went up to the bridge of his nose and he rubbed it, closing his blue hues he tried to imagine being anywhere else. His lips pressed tight together as his hand fell away from his nose. "Hasn't anyone ever told you I am really bad at following orders?" Then she seemed to recoil away from him and his words. Did she really think he was the guy who knew her? Boy was she mistaken. She sniffled and looked as if she might just cry. Tony lifted his hands in the air, "whoa. Don't do that." Tony's voice was wary as he spoke as if walking on egg shells.
She seemed to get it together enough to speak, but the next words out of her mouth made his heart speed up again. His hand went to his head as the intelligence system in his ear told him to calm himself. "Stop. Just stop saying it." He spat out at her not wanting to hear it, he felt himself lowering to the ground as he sat with his knees to his chest. The glow from the arch reactor white light bouncing off of his knees. He let his head fall onto his knees as he caught his breath. His hands going to the side of his head, his finger went to the ear piece. He spoke quietly into his knees. "How long would it take to do a full reboot and put the emergency systems on back up?" Tony sat there on the ground with his head hanging. It should only take about ten minutes but the lighting will turn off as well as myself. Tony licked his too dry lips, "do it."
Tony lifted his head and opened his blue hues. Grabbing the contour top he stood back up. Weighting his options with the suit to far away he looked to the girl who could shoot him. "Just not the face." The lights in the room went off and J.A.R.V.I.S was silent.

Maybe it’s not my weekend but it’s gonna be my year and I’m so sick of watching all the minutes pass as I go nowhere. This is my reaction to everything I fear. “Well I did it. Cap made the coffee.” Yeah that's right Captain America made coffee for the kid with the brain and she was damn proud of that. Kate would always be proud of being an Avenger. It was her life blood. She didn't know anything else any more. She was young yes, she had no where near enough training and no powers but being an Avenger was the single greatest thing that had ever happened to her. Everyone should get to try it. “Cap might be old but he isn't stupid...he knows what needs done he just...can't do it which you know....he has other talents...like punching things. He's really good at punching things.” Not everyone could be a genius could they?
Something felt off though, it just...his demeanour, everything was slightly off. More because Tony would never have cared if she was going to cry, he would have just sent her home telling her she wasn't Avengers material...and it was so unlike her but this situation was stressful for everyone involved. He almost crumpled in on himself...this wasn't the man that she knew at all. He seemed unstable which was everything they didn't need right now. They needed every Avenger they could get their hands on at their best because the longer they spent trying to get the basic stuff sorted was less time they had to concentrate on the actual problem at hand. Being distracted and put on damage control efforts was exactly what whoever did this actually wanted and Kate knew it. How to get around it.
“Tony?” Her voice was full off concern now as he sat curled up on the floor and Kate moved a little closer, not close enough that she felt as if she was encroaching on his space and she sat down. There was nothing worse than freaking out and having someone towering over you. She held up her hands, almost a universal sign that she wasn't going to smack him in the face. “Look...I'm sorry I flipped out....but I'm tired...and beyond stressed out trying to sort this omnishambles out.” Omnishambles was really the only word she could find to describe it.
Then he did the one thing she had begged him not to...the quiet mumbles she couldn't quite make out but all the lights went out and Kate felt her breath hitch in her chest, there was real fear that shot through her. About what would happen...what would this do to the city? Cap and Kate had scrambled to get this set up in the hope that no one was dying from a heart attack as someone panicked to try and call 911. Every second counted. Every. Single. Second.
The gasp of surprise was audible... “Tony?” Her voice portrayed just how exactly scared she was. It sounded worse in the silence. The background noise of the tower was gone, the subtle hum of computers and air con was gone. Dead silence. The Tower dead in the water and the two of them sat in darkness. Everything was falling apart. This tower was about as close to home as she could get at the moment. Being an Avenger was her home, this was her family and it was gone. Clint was gone. The Young Avengers were gone....Tony and Cap were meant to be the leaders and here was Tony a wreck from another world.
What was she meant to be doing right now? Kate might have lead the Young Avengers but right now this was bigger than anything she had dealt with and she was in over her head. She was never going to admit that though.
“What have you done?” Her voice shook a little...she wasn't sure she was going to like the answer.

It was working, he could hear her move off the couch as he sat there with his head down hiding what he was really up too. She said his name as if she was afraid to startled him, it was hard to keep the smirk from his lips. If she wanted to play with his computers he could play right back. She started to talk about how she was sorry for bringing it up and how she herself was tired and warn out. She was a kid after all, she had done the best with what she had. But now he was here and he would make it right, even if the kid annoyed the crap out of him. He had lifted his head and asked her not to shoot him in the face as the lights went out around him.
Her hues widened as she gasped, she looked as if he had just destroyed her world. She spoke his name again and he couldn't help the shrug that came to his shoulders. Now standing he walked around the island in the kitchen, the light from his chest showing through his shirt. "It's fine. Don't worry about it." Tony went into cocky mode right away, it was so easy when he was in control and right. She was still staring at him like he was a horrible human being. "What did I do? Well in about four minutes the emergency systems will be on the back up grid and I will have my main computer and J.A.R.V.I.S back." He said as he turned to face back towards her, he felt a little bit better with some distance between them.
She was scared, she had worked so hard and in just moments he had taken apart all of her hard work. Her voice was shaking and he could see the fear in her eyes. She was so young to be dealing with all of this, she had been on a roller-coaster of emotions since she had walked in here. He didnt even know how to deal with half of them, when Pepper started to get all panicky and hormonal he just kissed her. That always seemed to work. But here in this case he knew that wasnt an option.
"I guess you could say thank you. I mean you and Cap. Who ever you are by the way, very rude not introducing yourself." He said as he leaned back on the fridge and crossed his arms over his chest in a very relaxed motion. "You did good, but I can do it better and why not? I need the main system and I hardily use the back up. Of course we will have to figure out something more long lasting soon." He spoke as if it was plain to see. He shrugged again, "so now that I am here and taking care of things you can have a day off. Maybe go for ice cream with Cap?" Tony knew he was poking the bear, he was pushing all the buttons and it was hard to stop himself.

Maybe it’s not my weekend but it’s gonna be my year and I’m so sick of watching all the minutes pass as I go nowhere. This is my reaction to everything I fear.
There was real fear in her chest, she could feel her self shaking a little. What was going to happen. If they lost all of this then people were going to die. She could just imagine someone trying to ring from help and not getting though, the guy with a heart attack who had no way of getting help. It was fine. It didn't look fine. Nothing was fine right now. Kate sat there listening to him, trying to decide if he had broke everything of if he could be trusted. There was nothing left. That sounded dramatic but it was true. Her team was gone, the Young Avengers nowhere to be found and she had tried over and over again to get ahold of them. Cassie was six feet under so she was out the picture...Nate had lost his mine, ran away into the time stream and became a mass murderer, Vision was broken in pieces and Kate still kept him, had him packed away in a box like a thing even though he was never a thing he was he and locked away because it was too cruel to have him fixed up to tell him his love was dead and his creator an evil bastard. Then Eli....the one that ran away when it got hard. Downed his shield and threw away his costume because it was too hard for him to watch the omnishambles they had been in.
That didn't leave many of them left. She'd been around to Billys house over and over again. Teddy wasn't there, neither was Billy....there was no one. Then she'd found Loki. Sure it was little Loki but she didn't know what he had gone off to, didn't know if she could trust him or not. That left her. Left her alone in this Tower with Cap. That was all that was left of her home dimension. Now here was another Tony, another one to dismiss her and try to act like she wasn't decent enough to be an Avenger, or that she was some kid in over her head. Sure that might have been true but she was so far in it right now she had no idea what the hell else she could do.
Then there was Clint. Missing. She could only assume that Madam Masque had got to him before she had...that there was something very wrong....that he was in trouble and danger. It broke her heart. She wondered if he was still alive. If he was okay. If he had been hurt. Thoughts that kept her up even though she was beyond exhausted. He was the closest thing she had to a family and the prospect of loosing it all was beyond her comprehension really but she knew how that fear felt in her stomach. It didn't sit well at all.
Then there was smug Tony, which was the one she was more familiar with, “You are a giant troll do you know that?” She sounded calmer now, ran a hand through her hair before sitting back and closing her eyes. Covering her face with her hands. Then he did something...really..really weird...he complemented her. Kate sat up and looked at him confused for a moment. “Sorry what did you just say?”
There was a roll of her eyes as he kept talking. “Sure that's what Cap and I do we go out for ice cream and play best friends. Really? All I want is pizza and a nap. Like one of those nine hour naps that normal people take at night. I've forgotten the name of it.” The thing that they did. Sleep. That was it. That was the word. “My names Kate....Kate Bishop.” She wondered if it rang a bell, if her parents in his world had the company? She used to remember sitting in her father office in the tower next door looking out over on to Avengers Tower and watching Iron Man flying around. It had been the coolest thing ever. “Also known as Hawkeye. Hawkeye the second....Clint..Clint's the first Hawkeye but you know...and anyway I'm the cooler Hawkeye. I have better fashion sense, banter and without a doubt more brains than that doofus.”
I don’t want to dream anymore. Maybe it’s not my weekend but it’s gonna be my year!

He knew he was in the clear when she called him a troll, he wasnt really sure what it was she was calling him but he assumed it wasnt very nice. He shrugged it off as if it didnt matter. He hadnt meant to complement her but he had, somehow and some way. Clearing his throat he looked away from where she sat. "What? Nothing." He pressed his lips into a thin line as he looked back towards her. She started talking once more about her and Cap, he really didnt know anything about her. "You mean sleep." He stated instead of asking it as a question for her to answer. He didnt want to sleep and she did, it was quite the difference.
One hand went up to scratch the side of his face as she said her name, it didnt sound familiar at all. She had mentioned that her building, or her parents building was also set up on his grid. That meant that if it was he could use his systems to hack into her familys. Then he could find out who she and her parents where. Sure some people would call it unethical, but he needed the truth and he had found that people tend to lie. Just then J.A.R.V.I.S voice spoke in his ear. Sir, I have rebooted the systems as requested and put the emergency systems on the back up grid. His hand tapped the ear piece as the lights turned back on around the two of them.
Anything else sir? Would you still like me to do a systems check and a full diagnostic the tower. J.A.R.V.I.S's voice spoke to both him and Kate. He looked to the girl who had threatened to shoot him if he touched his own things. "Yes, also run a check on the suit and any others in the building." Tony then looked to Kate addressing her, "see? Nothing went wrong. Have you been staying here?" This was the part where he felt the most uncomfortable. There was a reason he didnt have a side kick or people under him. He didnt do well with others, now he had a teenage girl in his hone. "I guess I could put you up somewhere until you get back on your feet." He said it while looking away from her, acting like it was no bi deal when really it was. Maybe if he feed her pizza and let her sleep she would leave him alone.

Maybe it’s not my weekend but it’s gonna be my year and I’m so sick of watching all the minutes pass as I go nowhere. This is my reaction to everything I fear. Of course he would pretend like nothing happened. Kate shook her head for a moment and went back to just chilling out because right now she needed it. “Yes sleep. I haven't slept in like three days.” The hour she had grabbed under the main computer table in the server room between coffee lots was not countable. Kate yawned, she blinked, her eyes watering and stinging from the exhaustion so instead she leaned back, threw her arm across her face dramatically and let her arm laze there blocking out most of the light.
Inbetween instructions she caught the questions fired at her, just because she was tired didn't mean that she wasn't paying attention, that was one of the skills you got being an Avenger you were always on, trying to relax was difficult. “Kind of. There was no one else here. I couldn't just leave all these systems running so I've been hanging around drinking your coffee.” The least he could do was share his coffee, it was a crime not to...or it should have been and even more so considering the fact that Kate loved coffee.
“I'm good...I don't need to be put up...you see the big ass tower next door that says Bishop Publishing on it, guess who owns that. Can you do the math? I thought you were meant to be good at math Stark? I used to sit in my dads office when I was a kid and watch Iron Man and Captain America fight the bad guys in the sky...” She guessed there was no Bishop in his world. Maybe her family were normal. Maybe she had gone to a normal school? Maybe she had...Maybe she hadn't been attacked in the park that night? There was another Kate in another world that got a chance to date boys properly and wasn't screwed up and got to go to prom and all of those normal things. What did normal kids do anyway?
“I've got my own apartment...I just....I don't know it's like....this is Avengers Tower...where else do you go when there's trouble.” Kate was so used to calling it Avengers tower, it always had been to her, since the mansion was destroyed this was their HQ... “I mean we had the avengers mansion but that got...that got blown up...the memorial garden with it...” Really she was just babbling, it was the tiredness that did it. “We had statues and...and resting places for the Avengers that had died in Action but...most of it was just blown into smitherines.” She smiled, it was sad though as she sat up and looked at Tony. “I mean it's emergency protocol all the Avengers will be trying to get here...”
this could be all I’ve waited for, and this could be everything. I don’t want to dream anymore. Maybe it’s not my weekend but it’s gonna be my year!

Tony wasnt sure how he was to feel about this chick being around, Hawkeye's side kick, playing with his computers and drinking his coffee. "Ugh." His hand went up to cover his face as he slid his hand down it he groaned. He turned to look at the building next door to his own tower. The name on it did match her story, he couldnt really understand why she wouldnt be there instead. Maybe she just liked annoying the him, or the other him. He swallowed hard to get past that thought.
Leaving where he was leaning behind he walked to one of the far walls of the kitchen, the floating shelves before him held a large amount of expensive alcohol. Looking at the wall he thanked the liquor gods he hadnt crashed into the wall with the booze on it. Grabbing a bottle of whiskey he turned back towards Kate and the island. Bottle in hand he made his way back as he grabbed a cup and some ice. Pouring the liquid over the ice he set the bottle back down and picked up the glass. Tony gave the contents a small sniff before taking a swig, he made a slightly sour face.
"If your so rich why didnt you build them a new home?" He stopped as if a thought had dawned on him. He glanced at the girl sitting on the ground. "Arn't you a little young to be playing with the big kids? Shouldn't you be doing small time gigs?" She was young enough to know how things worked but he imagined that there was more to the story. Glass in hand Tony made his way to one of his computers at the edge of the kitchen opposite to the alcohol shelf. Setting the glass down next to the key board set into the table top a electronic display screen appeared, seemingly out of no where. His hand went up, touching the link between the next works, from where Kate was sitting all she would be able to see blue.
He ignored her and the mention that all of the Avengers would be coming to his home. "So Kate, why arn't you at home at your big tower? Daddy issues?" Tony mumbled to himself as he hacked into her system in just a few moments. His blue hues scanned over the files as they came through to him, it seemed that Bishop Industry's wasnt as clean cut as they appeared. The so called aprtment complex she lived in was in the way of her father and his plans on moving the Russian Mafia into that area, the more he read the more he found that the people who died in her and Clint's building where named in a hit list file.
Tony's fingers moved over the key board and his brows pulled together. It was also her own father who had signed off on the hit for his daughters head. "So did you tell daddy you loved him before or after the hit was placed on your head and Clint's?" Tony asked the younger female as his eyes stayed on the screen never leaving it. He knew how it felt to have someone you thought you could trust try to kill you, Obadiah was the whole reason he had become Iron Man. But the hurt was still there from how it had all gone down, his father had trusted the man and Tony thought he could do the same. Boy was he wrong.

Maybe it’s not my weekend but it’s gonna be my year and I’m so sick of watching all the minutes pass as I go nowhere. This is my reaction to everything I fear. “...my trust fund isn't that big. I used it to pay for the Young Avengers...kinda my responsibility I was in charge and you'd be surprised how much running a team costs.” It wasn't like Tony had the money in her universe, his company was going bankrupt. “It's not like we had back up the Avengers were gone...the city was in chaos all anyone was doing was arguing about who's fault it was that Wanda lost her marbes.” Well...that was the abridged version of what had happened. Kate thought it best not to bring up the war yet or the whole invasion she didn't want to make him freak out and curl up and cry again.
He was poking, Kate knew it. Tony used to do it back in her universe but never with so much cruelty to it. She moved her arm, opened one eyes to look at him and tried not to roll both of them . “Someone had to be here, you weren't. What if one of the team showed up or worse someone on the other side showed up? Who would be here to protect it?” Kate felt like adding him not him because so far all she had really seen was an unstable ass hole who still reached for the bottle. Somethings never changed. She could have made a snide comment about it but she decided against it, she wasn't going to sit and mock someones problem that was just horrible and Kate had spent too much of her life help her mothers charity help people with substance abuse problems to know that it wasn't his fault. Wasn't anyones fault that they had an addiction really.
Kate wasn't going to give him a reaction, he was just being a dick, which was no shock. He'd always been one. That was why she shot him and he had been lucky she'd hit his suit and not his arc reactor. At least she had been kind dealing with him, it was those little mercies that Kate took comfort in.
Actually she thought she was dealing with him rather well...until he dropped a bombshell. She paused for a moment. Didn't move. She sat up, looked at him for a moment before the true weight of his words sank into her. Kate was stunned...it was so obvious that the statement had shocked her right down to the core of her soul. Yes she hadn't been very close to him but he was her father, and she remembered when she was fourteen she had died her hair pink and it had been a disaster. She'd cut her hair herself and the bleach wrecked her hair and he had screamed at her. He said that she had let him down, fucked around. He had been so mad for so long. Sure he had his problems and normally midlife crises involved motorbikes and her fathers had involved hacking off grey hair lamely and suspicious expeditions and relationships with people far younger than himself.
They had made so many broken plans and promises and he thought that Fathers day was just another way of selling hallmark greeting cards. Yet he was her father. Kate did love him. He had raised her....and they had all been happy until her mother died. She remembered travelling around europe, sitting on his office floor with toys as her father hung up her drawings on his walls. He wasn't capable of that.
But sometimes it was the person that you would take a bullet for who was the one behind the trigger.
“No....no he wouldn't do that...it was Madam Masque he's....no.” She shook her head at him, pulled herself away the confusion and fear written across her features. “You're wrong....He's my dad he wouldn't do that.”
this could be all I’ve waited for, and this could be everything. I don’t want to dream anymore. Maybe it’s not my weekend but it’s gonna be my year!

Tony listened to her as she spoke, she was trying to be an adult. To be here when he wasnt to look after the city like he should have been. Well if he had been here in the first place. He was tempted to argue with her, about how this wouldnt be his issue if he was still in the right dimension. He shouldnt even be here, he should be at home with Pepper made even in the shower after the long day he had. But instead he was hacking into a heroes secure files and trying not to go into another full blown panic attack.
Then he spoke and she seemed to act like the world had just stopped spinning. He looked at her and raised a brow and then looked back to the screen as a mix of emotions moved across her features. She seemed to be in some sort of shock, but soon enough she snapped out of it. Kate told him how he was wrong, he had the wrong guy. "So I am thinking it was before than." May have been harsh of him to say, but to him it was humour that needed to be added to the now heavy atmosphere in the room. Moving both hands up and then turning them slightly towards Kate's direction he allowed her to see what he was.
"Don't tell me you have never hacked you own system. I mean I would have if my father was in charge of the Russian Mafia as well as a handful of other organisations. That reminds me, J.A.R.V.I.S make sure that we have a fire wall set up as well as a fake system. Oh and order a peperoni pizza and also a cheese pizza." He looked at Kate, "just in case someone gets curious." Yes sir. He paused as he took another sip of his drink. His hand then going to support his chin in thought. "But I am not lying, these lists and contracts right here have your fathers approval. As well as the hit on yours and Clint's head. Quite the hefty pay out as well."
Tony looked at the girl who still seemed to be in shock, "you had to find out at some point."

Maybe it’s not my weekend but it’s gonna be my year and I’m so sick of watching all the minutes pass as I go nowhere. This is my reaction to everything I fear.
Right now she did not want to be here. There were a million other places she would rather be. Anywhere but here. This was too much. She couldn't take it. Her head was trying to plan an escape route, she could picture the tower in her head and already she'd worked out what the fastest way out of here would be and from Tony's attitude so far he wouldn't stop her leaving. It wasn't a victory to run from your problems but right now that was the only plan that she had.
Not so long ago she had seen pictures from space of New York City at night, she could make out the tower, she thought that within that tower was the rest of her life. A family that she never really had been handed to her on a plate, sure she had friends in the hospitals and friends on the news collecting trophies for the fights they fought in the shadow of the moon. Kate had been to Mars, she had been to other worlds, she had watched stars falls and stars rise. Just when it felt like everything was starting to be okay it fell right through her hand. As if someone had fucked up a magic trick and tried to pull the table cloth out and taken everything with it. Everything.
Her entire world felt like it was closing in on her. Who would she have gone to help with this kinda thing? Bucky. Because Bucky was good at getting in and getting out again. He was good at getting information and not being seen and he would have helped her, he would have complained about it and tried to talk her out of it but in the end he would have given in...because deep down he actually cared about the Young Avengers he would have done anything for them. He was gone.
Then she would have taken that evidence to Clint for help fixing what ever mess had been created. He was gone. Then she would have turned to Tony because he had an army of lawyers and he would have helped her work out a plan to segregate as much capital off the company into her name to ensure some financial security before the shit hit the fan...and he could help her save the Foundation. Gone. No way this man was going to help her.
There was this strange feeling of panic as she stood up and moved closer to the screen...as her eyes gaed over the screen. Her face was one of someone who's entire world was shattering and regardless of which way she went she was going to get cut on the glass. Most of what he was saying was just white noise, a breath hitched in her chest....Kate felt like she was suffocating, like the shock along was going to kill her. “I..I need...I've got to go...” Kate took a step back, she almost fell backwards and tripped before she turned and she was headed straight for the nearest door.
That was the thing, Kate always had options. She knew where the nearest door was, she knew how to get away. She slept with a bag of clothes and her passport beside her bed so she could leave. Where was she going to run to though, this city was disconnected form the rest of the world, those who got too near to the barrier got hurt...there was no options and sure she could get out of the room and away from him but she would never get far enough away from this because the truth was Clint was hurt and it was her fault. This had to be her fault. Kate couldn't do this anymore.
She made it out the door before the feeling of not being able to breath stopped her, hands against the wall she steadied herself, turned and then let herself slide down it. Kate prayed Tony had stayed his ever non giving a shit self and just let her go. Her hands were shaking as she buried her face in them. Katherine Elizabeth Bishop had not lost control like this in almost seven years. Not since....no she wasn't going there right now. She was better than this. She had to be. All the mental screaming she was doing in the silence of the hallway didn't help. For a moment she was convinced this is what dying felt like.
this could be all I’ve waited for, and this could be everything. I don’t want to dream anymore. Maybe it’s not my weekend but it’s gonna be my year!

She sttod up slowly from her spot on the floor almost as if she was in a sort of a daze. It was the type of movment and motion that made the hero uncomfortable. Stepping slightly towards her from the side he watched as she looked over the screen. Tony's face was neutral, he set the drink he had been sipping down on the edge of the table next to his key board. She looked as if her whole world was caving in, Tony almost felt bad. He could see her crumbling and breaking, he had thought it was better for her to know. But now he almost regretted doing it. She looked so fragile as it was, he had pushed her over the edge.
“I..I need...I've got to go...”
Tony lifted a hand towards her, unsure what to do now that he had broke her world. She was trying to run, to get away. He could read the panic and fear on her features. It was how he felt when he thought about New York. Kate was at the door heading out of the room as he just stood there. He had never been good at this part, making people feel better. Swallowing hard he jogged after her, keeping a small distance behind her. But it wasnt long until she was stopped against the wall breathing hard and heavy. "Hey... Kate..." Tony spoke quietly as if he was afraid to spook her.
She buried her face into her hands. Tony knelt down before her, concern on his face as he waited for her to open up to him. He couldnt help but kick himself for how he had handled all of this. "Just breath, slow and deep. It will pass.... Trust me. Just listen to my voice Kate." He was surprised he could sound this wise, this strong when he himself felt like breaking down beside her. Going from a kneeling position backwards he leading his back against the wall opposite to the girl in purple. "You cant leave now I just ordered pizza. Well, J.A.R.V.I.S did but... Yeah."

Maybe it’s not my weekend but it’s gonna be my year and I’m so sick of watching all the minutes pass as I go nowhere. This is my reaction to everything I fear.
Kate had spent most of her life skirting around the edge of the ideal demographic. Playing a part for the cameras, letting the 'it' boys chat her up as the real friends she had were counting coppers at the bar. She would rather have been there with them. Together Clint and Kate had planned a revolution from a cheep Bed-Stuy apartment and she couldn't remember the details but she was pretty sure it involved banjos. No one was sure about their job description, people saw bows and arrows and wrote them off as useless and worthless. They were the least favourite Avengers but they were vital to the whole god damned operation scampering off to victory in the city that they called home. They refused to change their ways, Clint and Kate were proud to stand in the middle of the street and tell the enemy to move. Sick and tired of living on the B list. Together they could do anything, they were going to change the whole fucking word!
Where had it got them?
If she hadn't been here, if she hadn't been Hawkeye he would be okay. You could have played it safe, been Manhattan royalty... she remembered his words so clearly. She didn't want her promised land. She'd replied the journey brought joys that out weight the pain. Clint was all that she had left, the closest thing to a family that she had, because as upset as she was about this she wasn't exactly close to her father but still...she never thought him capable of this. What was more terrifying was what had happened to Clint.
Tony was the last person she wanted to talk to right now....it was pretty much the only person she had to talk to right now. “Don't you even!” She spat at him, angry and vicious, feeling trapped and confused. Kate wanted to hurt him, she wanted to tell him what a treacherous backstabbing bastard he was even in her world. How he got his friends arrested. How he locked up the Avengers in the Negative Zone. How he sold them all out. Made them enemies of the state. Sold them to the government to keep ahold of his precious company. That was cruel though...and she was better than that. Your life in the end was a check marks. There was a tally of your failures and your successes and if you were lucky they were even, Kates failures shook and shifted her in the night like a fever she couldn't break. Like a kid all she really wanted right now was to go home.
“He's all I've got...and I fucked it up.” She sounded distressed, worried, anxious and scared all wrapped up in one. “I was in LA and Madam Masque....she took everything I had....and now she's going to get Clint and it's all my fault...she killed Harold...she just left him hanging off the Holywood sign with one of my arrows through his chest...” no matter how much Kate wanted to scrub that from her mind she couldn't. “The last thing I need is you! Now it really is my fault....fuck.” She balled one of her fists, let her breath hitch again, “It's Clint though, he's a doofus, he's a giant man child but he'll be okay, he's gotta be, it's Clint he wouldn't do that to me.”
this could be all I’ve waited for, and this could be everything. I don’t want to dream anymore. Maybe it’s not my weekend but it’s gonna be my year!
