“A cage eh?” Doom smirked beneath his mask of metal as he crushed his morning paper in his fist. Staring out from the window of his penthouse a lush green view of Central Park stretched out to greet him, bustling with people. “A cage with no shortage of rats.” he remarked happily to himself as he discarded the paper with a dry slap against the nearest wall. The universe had seen it fit to free Doom just to trap him in a dome with the population of New York City. He planned to take full advantage of this mistake.
Doom recognized that now was as good a time as any to make a statement to the population but as liberating as a rampage in broad daylight seemed, some angles had to be covered to ensure that time was to be spent effectively. Doom’s mind raced as anyone’s would when faced with the possibilities that come with an alternate universe. He started small, recognizing the obvious, his suit, his powers, and his vital signs. He then looked at his surroundings, a penthouse suite in his favorite hotel means his financials are still in order, people still roam the streets of the now trapped New York City meaning nothing too drastic had happened, his thoughts paused, aside from the dome. Doom looked outside, nothing seemed changed by the clear and present boundary of the dome, people were living their lives, fully aware of their being trapped. Doom’s face bore a cold look that rivaled even the guise of his own mask at the thought of such ignorance. This realization transformed Doom in that moment, his need for revenge evaporated. An lesson was to be taught that the human race was not to be allowed to grow comfortable in the face of seemingly insurmountable authority. A lesson that life had taught Doom all too well.
With this thought, Doom took one step forward, breaking through the window of his penthouse suite. After gaining some distance from the building, he engaged his waist-mounted jets and flew toward central park. He arrived at the park in a matter of seconds and contrary to his expectations many of the civilians quickly took notice and ran as he descended toward Belvedere Castle, clearly he wasn’t the only airborne threat this universe had thrown at its people. A large crowd was gathered around what seemed to be some sort of makeshift music festival as street performers drew large crowds that formed rings around them. Doom activated his forcefield and quickly dropped to the ground, sending a small brass band located at the center of the action flying in all directions. The joyful illusion of this little diversion was now at an end. The crowd was stunned as Doom slowly rose from the smoke to hover over them as his electricity was made to streak harmlessly toward the the crater beneath him. As he began to speak, Doom willed electricity to erupt from his eyes. “Your ignorance ends now.”
The crowd began to panic, many froze as others attempted to flee causing a virtual standstill as the dense mass of people worked against its common goal of escaping. “Look at yourselves!” Doom’s voiced boomed over the chaos, assisted by minor telepathy. “You scurry about as if there is any hope escape!” Doom landed lightly and walked toward the thick of the crowd, ceasing his threatening electric guise. The crowd formed a neat ring, unable to tear themselves away as they remained unwilling to stray too close, a common response amongst those who have just heard a man’s voice in their mind. The crowd stood in complete silence with eyes locked toward Doom as the clatter of instruments hitting the ground and the chirping of birds overtook the scene.
“I thank you for your attention.” Doom smiled, addressing each pale, fear stricken face he could see. “Now, I come here on this fine day to ask of you all one question.” Doom paused, “Are you content?” Not one voice could be heard as he raised his had toward the sky. “Are you satisfied with life beneath such unseen oppression?” Doom waited for an answer that never came. Enraged by the enveloping silence, Doom mustered a great bolt of magical energy and flung it upward, the crowd gasped as it struck the dome, rippling and fading outward from the impact as it was rendered harmless. “How can you revel in the shadow of a massive cage!?” Doom flung another bolt to aid his point as the crowd remained silent some fell to their knees helplessly as others could be heard running in fear as they were shocked back to their senses. “Do you like subjugation? Is that it?” Doom spat venom in these words growing even more angry at the crowd’s continued silence. With another bolt to the dome Doom screamed into the minds of anyone who could hear “Who among you can answer me!?”
