Times Square, the heart of New York. The most congested section of the city. Iceman circled above for a few moments before sliding smack-dab in the middle of the tourist smothered landmark. Even with the loom of danger in the air, Times Square is as full as ever. The drone of car horns began to pound against Bobby's eardrums. It had been a while since he had been in Time Square. Even with being a native New Yorker, Bobby never had the time or the desire to visit this den of nonsense. The now nonexistent light show that took hold of the sky moments before had now vanished leaving Bobby as confused as ever. As Bobby surveyed the scene of wondering bodies and glowing lights he was approached by some man, one with a perpetual snarl on his face. "It was you wasn't it" he yelled at Bobby, the alcohol dripping off his words.
"Is there a problem sir, I'm Iceman, I can help"
"It was you you damn mutant!" The man was completely on edge now, pushing Bobby with each new word.
Throughout his years as a superhero and mutant, Bobby has heard his share of mutant bashing hate. This man however pushed on his nerves. "Sir i assure you i do not know what you are talking about"
"Yes you *burps* do, those lights in the sky, they were probably one of your mutant friends. I'm tired of mutants taking over my city"
That struck a cord, "I helped saved New York as well as the entire country a bunch of times" Which was true, but Bobby found no comfort in yelling back at the drunk. Being a superhero was something Bobby did to help. He never did it for the recognition. But now here he is yelling at some drunk in the street to protect his image. Definitely not the best way to solve the problem at hand.

What a shame we all became such fragile broken things, a beauty half betrayed, butterlifes with punctured wings Still there are darkened places deep in my heart where once was blazing light now there's a tiny spark
Oh Glory come and find me dancing all alone to the sound of an enemies song I'll be lost until you find me. Fighting on my own in a war that's already been one, I'll be lost until you come and find me, oh Glory! The world might be cut off....well actually it was more technically to say that New York City was cut off from the world but either worked. Yes they were cut off from the world...but everything went on as normal. Of course there were theories floating around already. Some blamed the Avengers. Some tried to finger which every scientist they knew the name off thinking it was some experiment that went wrong. Hell some thought that it was Richards fault but no one could find him to ask him. That wasn't all that helpful.
Frankly the world was sick and twisted and broken to the point Charlie didn't think anything could fix it. Things inside were just as bad as outside the only difference was now you couldn't fly off to Paris for a week or two to escape the reality of it. Except Charlie just wanted to help make it a little better, she knew she couldn't fix it, knew that hardly anyone took her seriously because since when were mutants taken seriously. They were things to look down to. It hurt. Except it was something she was becoming used to and Charlie maintained that should never be the case, of course...they said that it didn't affect your chances in life, that it didn't ruin it all. That only applied if you sat down and shut up, kept your hopes up high and your head down low. Don't ask. Don't tell. That seemed to be their mantra these days.
Of course, she couldn't even try to walk back to the station to get her train home without something kicking off. Charlie had never been one to walk past, instead she was in between the drunk and the man he was yelling at attempting to break it up. "Alright! Enough! You!” She pointed at the drunk man with more confidence than a five foot high bright haired teenager should have but...really how hard was this going to be compared to what she did everyday? "Shut up, go back to whatever dive bar it is you've been drowning your sorrow and shut your mouth. You are a rude, rude man. Ok?" It wasn't a question, she was ordering him, and then her attention turned on the young man who had been snapping back at him. "And you, shush, nobody likes a show off." Her voice was calmer, she was joking, she was trying to make light of the situation but she wasn't so sure how that was going to go down.
Either all hell was going to break loose, or it would end in a damp squib. She was kinda hoping for the latter.
"We've got bigger problems as a city then petty arguments and trying to blame each other for this alright? We could all use a little tolerance and understanding here."
I question every human that wont look in my eyes. Scars left on my heart formed weapons in my mind.

Bobby was just about to really lay into this drunk when an unfamiliar face jumped in between the two of them. She stood a bit shorter than him with the brightest hair you would ever see. She began to lay into the drunk with such a feisty tone with her words. "Shut up, go back to whatever dive bar it is you've been drowning your sorrow and shut your mouth. You are a rude, rude man. Ok?" That made Bobby smile, thank goodness there are people who are normal in this ridiculously large city. However it wasn't long until the unfamiliar female turned her attention to Bobby. Her words were not ones of praise that Bobby was looking for, they were of criticisms
"And you, shush, nobody likes a show off.". That certainly threw him off guard. Bobby didn't think of it like that. As he began to speak the lovely intoxicated individual of which the whole encounter began yelling something incoherent right to the unfamiliar female's face. Once he was content with his rambling he grumbled something about the bad mutants under his breath before wobbling his drunk personality away. Bobby waited for a moment to make sure the drunk wasn't going to make an unneeded return. "Well that was unpleasant" Bobby said after a few moments of silence. "I'm not showing off you know" He quickly added to rebut her comment towards him. "I really have helped the city a bunch of times" he tried to cover his pride with his statement. "Who are you anyway?" Bobby was really very curious about the unfamiliar female, anyone who is willing to jump right in the middle of a drunk and his fight is someone he would most definitely would want to know. There was something else about her, something strangely familiar, like he was around people like her for a long time. "I'm Bobby"

Oh Glory come and find me dancing all alone to the sound of an enemies song I'll be lost until you find me. Fighting on my own in a war that's already been one, I'll be lost until you come and find me, oh Glory! Watching the man stumble off drunk ranting and mumbling about how mutants were horrible people who were going to bring destruction to society Charlie breathed sigh of relief as he left. She didn't want to get involved in another fight, didn't want trouble...right now actually all she wanted was to go home and have a very strong drink because today had been bad enough already. Raising an eyebrow she looked at him, it was almost a challenge to start a fight with her and she was dangerously close to letting it rip.
One hand went to her hip, there was no going back now was there? "You saved the world? Congratulations." There was heavy sarcasm in her voice. "What do you want a fucking medal?" Okay maybe now she was the one being rude who cared? "I intervened because no one gets spoken to like that, not because you're a big shot hero? You're a mutant so what are you - an X-man?" Oh god she hoped not.
That was the thing about the X-men, if you could blow things up you were cool, if you had a power that was useful and they could use you in the grand fight for equality and saving the world fantastic. If you were one of the lower level mutants like her, the ones that didn't have useful powers, who didn't get to go to fancy schools and have themselves scooped out of normality which consisted mostly of people giving you dirty looks and finding out that you were going to be discriminated against...well it wasn't so damn cool anymore was it?
"You know the rest of us have to deal with your fall outs? You're not the most popular people on the planet after the whole Avengers verses X-Men the world ending thing you're not very popular so I'd keep your mouth shut." Maybe the thing that kept Charlie on her feet doing okay was that she had some street smarts around her. She knew well enough how most people felt about it, because she felt the same. While they were off saving the world people like her were the ones that got shit at work, got spat at and if they fought back...well they were the criminals. It wore thin fast.
"They hate all of us, even the ones of us that got stupid powers...they wont care what you can do or what you have done, they just want us all locked up." That was the part that scared her the most, the hate was indiscriminate. "My names Charlie, and you are?"

As the unfamiliar female watched the drunk walk away, Bobby felt the worst was over. As he looked back at her, with her arm locking into place on her hip Bobby felt a chill run down his spine. A feeling he has not felt in a long while. "You saved the world? Congratulations." Bobby began to speak but was quickly shut up by the words flying off her tongue. "What do you want a fucking medal?". Somehow stopping to investigate times square was not as much of a good idea that Bobby thought it was. Between The drunk he had to deal with to this girl yelling at him, it definitely was tough. Bobby was really at a loss for words. It didn't seem like he could even catch a break. So there Bobby waited, until he could finally get a word in edgewise.
A "normal" person would become offended that some random person is yelling right in their face. Bobby however is not a member of the "normal" population. Taking the mutant aside Bobby was never the person to really get angry at average things. Staying cool within these strange situations makes Bobby who he really is. So there Bobby stood watching the unfamiliar female let loose the dogs of war from her mouth. "You know the rest of us have to deal with your fall outs? You're not the most popular people on the planet after the whole Avengers verses X-Men the world ending thing you're not very popular so I'd keep your mouth shut."
It was in fact true that there was recently an issue between the X-men and the Avengers. An issue that drove a split between the two groups as when as within them. The events that came from the war of these superheroes hurt both sides. Something that hurt to even talk about. Bobby waited for the now identified female Charlie to finish her rant before speaking up "You know that whole war did more damage to us then you realize. Now if you're a mutant I will treat you like family, but don't think I will put up with you.Oh and name's Bobby

Oh Glory come and find me dancing all alone to the sound of an enemies song I'll be lost until you find me. Fighting on my own in a war that's already been one, I'll be lost until you come and find me, oh Glory! It was the mutant comment that kicked her off, that made Charlie see red, she glared at him, a look that could have killed before she laughed in almost disbelief. "I am." She told him bluntly, she was a mutant, she was one of them and yet she was tired of not being treated like one.
That was the horrible thing about the mutant community, as much as they all tried to pretend that they were all in it together they weren't. There was a hierarchy and Charlie was way down at the bottom with the freaks who's powers weren't useful, they were amusing, they belonged in sideshows on road sides in the midwest not at the academy, why waste teaching on those that weren't useful? Part of Charlie was upset to see such a rift fast developing but that...that was how they felt, you couldn't unfeel it. "You know what Bobby, I lost everything because of your war. My friends turned their back because no one wants to be friends with a mutant anymore, I lost my job, I can't pay my rent, venues won't let my band play because guess what. I'm a mutant. I know the damage it did. Don't patronise me."
Oh wow. This had gone south. Fast. She wasn't expecting to lose her temper, but she had been upset already, bad day at work, bad day and bad moods everywhere didn't make for the best atmosphere to make friends in. "The rest of you, the ones that have the useful powers, you get the world, you get to live in a heaven away from the real world and it's cool we get it...there's not enough room for everyone at the top the rest of us are stuck out here and we're the ones that get beat up, and we're the ones that suffer - remember that next time you all decided to take out a neighbourhood while having a disagreement." Sure there were better ways she could have said it all but after dealing with people all day her tolerance was low. "Shouldn't we be treating everyone as family? I mean, they always like to say that right? Mutants stick together, we're all one big happy family but they couldn't care less. The Xmen didn't save the world...they just made it harder for those of us living outside of Xavier's pearly gates." It sounded bitter because it was, because she was angry and upset with them all making it harder for her to make the cash she needed to survive, because the rest of them had to live like normal people, they had to pay taxes and make tips to afford dinner. "I got rid of that guy because no one should ever talk to someone that way, not because you're a hero. That's the one thing humans and mutants have in common, they are all unique but none of us are special."[/font[

From the rising volume in her voice, Bobby was able to deduce that he in fact struck some nerve in Charlie This non-existent hierarchy she implied of seemed to allow her to slip into this circle of blaming. With the x-men at its core. She obviously has been through a heartbreaking ordeal, of which only strengthened her hate of other more "powerful" mutants. Undoubtedly caused by the growing rift between mutant-kind and humans.
"Do you really think that any of us dont know what its like? To be persecuted and hunted, to be turned away by the very people you put your trust into? I am sorry for the things you have seen and what you have been through. I am, words cant describe it. But no matter what you think, the reach of the X-Men does not stop at the mutant with the "cool powers". Every mutant, reguardless of mutation has a place with the X-Men. We are not perfect beings and never suggest that we are. We know the consequences our actions have on the world. We are doing everything we can to fix what we have gotten wrong"
While it would be very easy to yell at Charlie and simply walk away, it just wouldnt be right. From her story she suffered quite a blow for a long time. Beng turned away by people you knew and love. Bobby knows that feeling all too well. In Bobby's eyes no one should have to get thrown away just for being yourself. Bobby waited a moment before speaking again.
"I know where you are coming from I really do. I know what its like to be thrown out for being what we are. No one should have to experience that. If you want I can help you. If yiu want you can come with me to o e of our safehouses. You would be able to stay there for a while. Just until things cool off you know. I know it wont tKe take what has happened to you but maybe it can be the start of it"

Oh Glory come and find me dancing all alone to the sound of an enemies song I'll be lost until you find me. Fighting on my own in a war that's already been one, I'll be lost until you come and find me, oh Glory! It was always easy to stand there and say you were going to fix something but at the end of the day it shouldn’t have happened anyway. There were a lot of things that shouldn’t happened and to be fair Charlie was getting tired of waking up and turning on the news and seeing another spat between the Avengers and XMen. "I don’t think the XMen can fix this." She admitted, actually sounding rather upset about that fact. “They unleashed the Phoenix, had a high profile battle with the Avengers on prime time news TV and then took them prisoner and attempted to create a planet full of new mutants. I mean really, this goes beyond PR disaster for us all.” Charlie wasn’t kidding. They were all screwed now.
He might understand, they always said that, they stood there and tried to say on the TV threat they knew the feeling that all mutants felt but they had a home, they had a place that looked after them, then there was the rest of them. She couldn’t leave, she couldn’t run away and hide, she had rent to pay, if she didn’t go to work with a smile on her face and pretend that she was happy to serve rude people their coffee then she wasn’t going to make enough to have dinner. It was the stark reality of live in this city that they all seemed to removed from.
“See, this is the thing that they never seem to understand, I have to go to work, I have to make tips to pay my rent and have enough left to eat. Most of us can’t run away, we can’t afford to. “ Yet most mutants suffered discrimination on that front, it wasn’t actually illegal, that was what enraged her so much. “You know it’s illegal to not give someone a job on the basis of their gender or their age but having an X Gene, oh that doesn’t apply.” There was a touch of anger in her voice, why should she run away anyway? Charlie was going to stand and face the world and scream at it, like that was the best way of achieving something.
For a moment she paused, he seemed genuinely sympathetic which she just wasn’t used to. Charlie was used to being told to suck it up and deal with it and get on with it, there was no time to dwell, her friends and herself stumbled form one crisis to another, that was just what they did. It wasn’t as if there was ever time for being supportive about the situation they were in. There was something about the constant chaos that festered the some what forward and snappish defences that she had.

"I wouldnt consider it running away. Simply moving. Moving to a place where you can be around people who understand what you're going through. There is something you should realize. Regardless of what we can do and what we have done, we are a family first and foremost. While yes it isn't a law against the discrimination of people with the X- gene you can bet we are moving towards that. If we just give up and hide there wouldn't be a future for us. Alone there wouldn't be a future for us. Only together, not as x-men but as a family of people. That's is what we are in fact. We don't hide, we just don't need to take the abuse everywhere we go. Everyone needs a safe to feel safe and welcome. Come with us."
While there was a good chance that Charlie would still choose to be on her own and blame the X-Men for everything, Bobby had to try. Nothing has been close to perfect in the past years. It's been one big storm after another and Bobby wasn't going to make any excuses. Though there was no reason she has to go through it alone.
"Look everyday we find new people struggling to get by because they were born with the x-gene. Everyday we find people who want nothing else to do then blame us and go about their lives. Now you can do that and that's fine. But I'm standing here offering you help, offering you some help going through your life. Now I don't know you, you might be the strongest person in the world, but no matter what you always need to be around people who know what you are going through. I know a certain yellow spandex clad x-man who went through something very similar to you. He was a loner all his life, but as soon as he let people into his life, it was that much better for him. So you know why don't you just think about it."

Oh Glory come and find me dancing all alone to the sound of an enemies song I'll be lost until you find me. Fighting on my own in a war that's already been one, I'll be lost until you come and find me, oh Glory! Family, God she hated that word. Families stabbed each other in the back, they were a bunch of people that hated and abused each other trapped in a meaningless endless cycle of lies and deception because they shared genetic material. It was some sick ideal that made her skin crawl. Families only existed on TV. As much as she wished that wasn’t the case so far in her life she hadn’t met someone who’s family hadn’t fucked them up beyond recognition. Then again, that said volumes about the people she was friends with.
Truth was she didn’t have much to say to him, he was kinda right, they stood a better chance together but she didn’t know if she trusted them enough with that, sure she was young angry but she felt as if she had good reason to be…not that she’d ever really told the world the reasons for it. Not that she felt she had to….and part of his still believed her father. That she was wrong, that there was something fundamentally wrong with it, that she would be hated because of it…and sure she didn’t feel like it was because she was a mutant. Maybe she was just a bad person?
Help wasn’t something people offered, people weren’t kind, they were selfish and they wanted something out of you. Charlie stood there for a moment and just watched him, like she was trying to detect a lie. Charlie wasn’t sure about being a strong person, she wasn’t sure about how she fit into this world before the whole city being cut off thing…now she was just lost and angry.
Something twigged, it was obvious on her features, the whole confident and loud thing was gone and there was what Charlie actually was…lonely and freaked out. Her friends and band mates were gone, the people she cared about were gone and she was left kicking and screaming out at the world before it kicked her again. "And what makes this ‘family’ so different from the rest that just abuse each other?" There was bitterness twisted with fear that she struggled to cover up. "And what will people do? I had people. I had friends…and then they were gone. "
I question every human that wont look in my eyes. Scars left on my heart formed weapons in my mind.

Every glare and poisonous word that dripped off her words simply showed the fact that she was hurt. In the world that Bobby has come to know, everyone was been pushed around. Too often has he see the pain in the world and the tragedy that people cause. One bad act led to another and then another. The world has in fact been broken and every mutant, super soldier, and avenger can not make it better. Bobby knew this. He knew that a lot of what we did wouldn't make things all better overnight. But it was something he was taught at a young age. All the struggle in the world was worth pushing through. People are worth fighting for. If only he could convince Charlie to fight along side him.
"I wish I could tell you that we are a different kind of family. That we are worth it. I just cant. I cant lie to you. After all we try to do for the world, there is so much we do wrong. We push each other away and throw ourselves into the crap this world has become.
Bobby stopped and just watched her for a moment. Just a moment. For that split fraction of a second he saw something that Charlie tried to cover up. You can lie, yell, and walk away as much as you want, but eyes don't lie. She was scared and hurt. So Bobby did what Bobby does best. Be as honest as he could be. "We are the same as every other family. No matter how much we hurt one another we will always look after each other. We may not always be around for you, but for this short time when you need help, let us look out for you. Bobby then just simply stepped back and waited for Charlie to make her decision. All that he could do was wait.
