DESCRIPTION AND PERSONALITY
APPEARANCE
By most conventions Namor is an attractive man. He is tall, with a muscular swimmers build that gives him broad, defined shoulders that taper down to a well muscled abdomen. Like any other superhero he has well defined arm and leg muscles. That was the stereotypical stuff. Let's move on to the fun stuff.
Namor has an exotic face. Accentuated by sharp lines, and with oddly sloping brows, his face is curious in a foreign sort of way. He has pointed ears, sloping backwards from his head. Sometimes they stick out, sometimes they don't, nobody is honestly looking at his ears. The Sub-Mariner has a very sharp jawline. His face shape is triangular, with a square jaw sharpening towards a pointed chin that is not quite clefted. His eyes are a deep grey-blue, much like the ocean herself, marking him as yet another blue eyed, dark haired, muscle bound superhero.
But wait! There's more! Narmor has a pair of wings sticking out from either side of his ankles. An odd feature, sure. And they flap too. These wings are white and awkwardly feathered. He also has gills on the side of his neck, but they randomly vanishdepending on the artist.
Now, about what he wears…or rather doesn't wear. Namor doesn't see much use in clothing. Aside from his classic Atlantean speedo which covers the essentials (I assume so fish don't try to eat them?) clothing is a human convention. Atlanteans don't really need clothing to save them from the elements. So, Namor just doesn't wear it. Occasionally, when he's on land, he can be seen trying to fit in (read as go undercover) and wear human fashions. He will wear their coats, their pants, their horrible shoes. However, whenever he has a chance he will rip it all off like a-waitnotgoingthere he will destroy his clothing until he's back in his magic speedo again. Then he will kick ass and takes names.
For simplicities sake I will explain his usual costume: a green scaly speedo with a golden belt. Oh, and a pair of wrist cuffs which are optional. Yup, that's it. Feel free to stare.
PERSONALITY
Before we delve into an understanding of Prince Namor's personality it is important to understand that he is not human. He does not abide by human laws. He does not see the significance of human morals. He says what he wishes, when he wishes, and is not terribly worried about the consequences. Namor is the sort of Atlantean to find humans both repulsive and fascinating at the same time. The Avenging Son, has spent nearly as much time saving humanity as he has condemning them. His actions border on hypocritical, if they happen to make any sense at all to mortal land-dwellers.
Put bluntly, Namor is an arrogant asshole. His arrogance is entitled, he is a king among his kind after all, and he has the skills to back up his claims. If challenged, Namor does not back down. He defers to no one and is a dangerous force once properly enraged. The sea king is well known for his moods. He has a chemical imbalance that causes his moods to swing like a mighty pendulum should he be in the air or in the water for too long a period. He is a creature of both worlds. He requires ample time in both.
Because Namor is such a force of overwhelming masculinity he has a difficult time getting along with human males…or any other males in general. The sea king is a man's man, with buckets of charisma, and his own natural leadership abilities making him (in his own mind) the envy of men everywhere. He is stoic at the best of times, wise in the moments where he must be, knowing when to act and when to take a step back. He is not afraid of action, for he is a warrior of a king, but he understands how diplomacy works. Namor is a king. He conducts himself as much, and knows that his actions (when he's not in one of his rage fits) have a bearing on his sovereign nation. He is well-respected among his own people, and is, at least, feared among the humans.
Namor's rage is perhaps his fatal flaw. If the sea king has been underwater, or on land for too long, his temper will begin to get the better of him. He will be even more obnoxiously arrogant then usual, and will barb his words to sting like any harpoon. Once he has been tempted into a fight, and it doesn't take much for that to happen, Namor will be relentless until his foe has fallen, or he is forced to move between his two elements of air and water. Once that happens he will have a moment of clarity, his blood will cool, and he will realize his mistake--though he will never openly admit it.
When it comes to heroism, Namor usually only acts when he feels forced to. If Atlantis is in peril he will go to any length in order to save it. He cares very deeply for his people, and the hardships they are going through (mostly at the hands of humanity) affect him terribly and deeply. It is for this reason that he does not like humanity: because they hurt what he cares for most, and seem to do it without remorse. However, has a weakness for pretty women, and values their lives above other humans. They are who he will go out of his way to save. He also enjoys toying with human women, though he will sometimes get overly attached to them (*cough* Sue), but the majority of his enjoyment actually comes from the way the human men react to him spending time with the women they consider "theirs." But, as a bonus, he just really enjoys the company of women.
Perhaps the last thing to mention goes along the veins of his kingly bearing. Namor often will talk in the third person. It doesn't happen all the time, but he slips in and out of first and third person when he speaks. The Sub-Mariner also comports himself in a courtly style, speaking in a manner that is close to a modern human, but not exactly. Oh! And did I mention? He also enjoys narrating what he is doing.
POWERS AND ABILITIES
POWERS
HUMAN/ATLANTEAN PHYSIOLOGY
The vast majority of Namor's abilities come from the fact that he is an Atlantean and human hybrid. He is not your average Atlantean hybrid, either, and so gains the abilities specific to an Atlantean of royal lineage. On top of being a hybrid creature, Namor is also a mutant. This mutant ability makes him a being of land, sea, and air. He was also one of the five Avatars of the Phoenix.
Namor's body is specially adapted for both an aquatic and terrestrial life. Unlike other Atlanteans, Namor has the ability to breathe outside of the water for extended periods of time. He, unlike humans, has the ability to breath underwater. He is also specially developed to withstand the high pressure changes of low-sea depths, as well as the pressure changes of the upper atmosphere. He also has a specialized blood circulation that allows him to withstand freezing temperatures. Namor has the ability to live almost anywhere on earth so long as he still has occasional contact with water.
SUPERHUMAN ABILITIES

Like all the members of the Atlantean race, Namor is superhumanly strong. Unlike other Atlanteans, however, his strength is even greater due to his royal heritage. The level of his strength is dependent on his physical contact with water, and his strength will diminish the longer he is kept away from liquid. At his peak, and shortly after contact with water, Namor has been seen to lift thousands of tons without effort, take on the Hulk and Sentry, and even swim against a temporal storm. His physical prowess is so great that he has been referred to as one of the most powerful beings on the planet…but only when he's wet.
SPEED
Namor is fast by Atlantean and human standards. He can run faster then the finest human athlete but only for short distances and so long as he is wet. Running is unnatural to a man used to flying and swimming. Speaking of swimming, he can reach speeds of over 75 knots. This guy can move in the water.
AGILITY AND REFLEXES
In both of these categories Namor is only slightly better then the finest of human athletes. On land his reflexes are slightly slower then when he is in the water, or in the air. He is not as used to being on land as he is with the sensations of swimming. In the air, as with the water, he is much harder to hit.
DURABILITY
Because Namor is evolved to withstand tremendous temperature and pressure shifts, it is natural that he would be more durable then a human. Because he is also a royal Atlantean, he is even more durable then others of his kind. He can survive tremendous impacts, high caliber bullets, falls from orbital heights, extreme pressures and temperatures, and energy blasts. He does get injured, and is forced to recover, but these things are unlikely to kill him outright. He can be killed in much the same manner as a human. If shot in the head or heart he will die. He can also die of bloodless, and if his injuries are not dealt with quickly enough.[/ul]
AQUATIC HEALING
If injured, Namor has the ability to heal damaged tissue faster, and more extensively, then any other Atlantean. This is again thanks to his royal heritage. This accelerated healing only works when he is under water. If he is forced to stay on land, and is dry, then he heals at the same rate as a human.
RADIATION ABSORPTION
Namor can absurd radiation without harm to his health, however, prolonged exposure saps his strength.
EXTENDED LONGEVITY
The average Atlantean lives to be about 120. Namor is considered to be in his physical prime.
AQUATIC TELEPATHY
Namor has the ability to telepathically call and communicate with all forms of marine life. He is able to convince some of them to do his bidding through mental persuasion, but this is not necessarily an easy feat, and depending on the creature they may not listen. This works best when he takes into consideration the what these creatures would do naturally. Along with talking to animals, he is also able to communicate with other Atlanteans and this is how he gives orders to his men.
AUGMENTED SENSES
Namors vision is enhanced in order to penetrate the ocean's depths and see through murky water. He also has acute hearing, which honestly isn't all that useful. Mostly he is just sensitive to loud noises and will complain if you shout at him.
HYDROKINESIS
If you set Namor on fire he can put himself out. He is able to spray water from his skin, however, he does not tend to do this unless he absolutely must simply because it leaves him very weak.
ANIMAL MIMICRY
This is perhaps the oddest of his powers (barring the random flying around bit) and gives him the ability to mimic the characteristics of undersea creatures. He possesses a natural form of sonar and can detect subtle movements, or vibrations, around him in the water. He also possesses Bio-Electricity, Bioluminescence, and once puffed himself up like a puffer fish. It wasn't pretty.
[/ul]
FLIGHT
Perhaps the oddest thing about Namor is his ability to fly. He possesses vestigial wings on both of his ankles that give him the ability to fly. His normal flight speed allows him to outpace military aircrafts. He has also been seen to carry heavy weights with no detriment to his speed while he is wet. If his wings were ever damaged or destroyed Namor would lose his ability to fly.
ABILITIES
EXPERT COMBATANT
Being around for such a long time, and having his general disposition, means that Namor has been in more then his fair share of fights. He has been in many wars, including WWII, and has a great deal of experience in hand to hand combat. Growing up as heir to the Atlantean throne, Namor was taught extensively in both armed and unarmed combat. He knows how to use a sword, spear, and is a passable marksman, however he would honestly just punch you in the face. So, as his preference, he usually engages in brawl-like hand-to-hand combat.
DIPLOMANT AND TACTITION
Namor is a highly skilled leader and a capable leader of his people. Because of his experience in battle he is a highly accomplished tactician…when he isn't running off to fight the battle on his own.
MULTILINGUAL
He speaks almost every language on earth. Any language spoken near the sea. However he is unable to read most of them.
ENGINEER
He is quite skilled at deigning and improving Atlantean tech. Too bad it's not very compatible with terrestrial human tech.
BUSINESSMAN
Namor is quite the businessman. He understands how to cut a deal, and is quite skilled at that aspect of humanity.
WEAKNESSES
WATER DEFICIENCY
If unable to reach water for an extended period of time Namor's abilities decline. If he is dry to the touch then he posesses the abilities of simply an average Atlantean. If he does not come into contact with water and continues to exert himself then his abilities will continue to deteriorate until he reaches near-human durability, strength, and stamina. If he does not come into contact with water for too long a time, then he will die.
Contact with water restores all of his abilities back to their full potential, unless he has been severely dehydrated, and then he needs to spend more time in it to heal.
DEHYDRATION
Speaking of! Heat based attacks are Namor's weakness as they can cause dehydration faster then he can deal with. He will weaken at an excellerated rate if exposed to heat.
POLLUTION
If Namor hops into polluted water it can have a negative effect on his physiology and physical attributes. Pool water only replenishes his abilities by half, and polluted water can make him incredibly sick depending on the state of the water he is in. If it's killing other marine life, it will eventually kill Namor.
OXYGEN IMBALANCE
If Namor remains in either the air of water for too long a time he will become vulnerable to oxygen imbalance:
When in the midst of an imbalance Namor will become angry very easily. During this time he is unable to think clearly and logically. He can prevent this imbalance, by dividing his time equally between the two atmospheres, but he has an unfortunate tendency not to do this. When his imbalance is properly controlled he has proven himself to be a much more capable leader, and generally an easier person to get along with.
HEAD PROBLEMS
During one of his chemical imbalances Namor will submit to head injuries very easy. It does not take the monumental force to the head to knock him out when he is in such a state. Which is a good thing if you want him to stop rampaging. [/ul]
FOUL HUMANS
Thiiiiiiis is more of a mental weakness. Namor detests humans, for the most part, and finds them silly and inefficient. He doesn't understand a vast majority of their technology and devices merely because he chooses not to. This stubborn, self-inflicted ignorance has gotten him into trouble fairly often.
WEAPONS
NEPTUNE'S TRIDENT
An ancient trident made partly of Enchanted Adamantine metal. The trident is capable of many things, however, Namor has no idea how it actually works and tends to use it simply as a bludgeoning force, or a giant fork.

HISTORY
Prince Namor was born to two worlds. His mother was a royal Atlantean, daughter of Emporer Thakorr, sent to spy on the surface world probably because all the non-royal spies were incompetent. His father was a ship's captain. Their union lasted barely long enough to conceive their freaky mutant son, Namor, before the ship they were on was attacked by the Atlantean warriors thinking that Fen (mommy dearest) was taking too long. So, she returned home, and later popped out a weirdly pink-skinned mutant baby. Remember, Atlanteans have blue skin.
This mutant baby became the Prince of Atlantis, and a warrior for his people. He trained for years to one day assume the throne as was his birthright. When he was fourteen weird growths popped out of his ankles. These turned out to be wings and he gained the ability to fly. Young Namor explored the world, coming to the realization that he could live anywhere. He ended up in New York City (because this is a Marvel story) and became best friends with a police woman named Betty.
When World War II broke out, Namor joined the fighting. He fought alongside Captain America, that joke of a kid Bucky, the Human Torch, and that other joke Toro. For someone who didn't really care much for human affairs, young Namor loved punching out Nazis. He allied himself with the Allied powers and kicked some major Nazi butt.
Namor was injured after the war. He ended up in a flophouse in the Bowery as an amnesiac derelict. It took him awhile to regain his memories, but once he did he went straight back to his kingdom…only to find out that it had been destroyed by nuclear testing and all the inhabitants were gone. Namor swore revenge on the humans and began to randomly attack them. Unfortunately superheroes got in the way. Luckily, for Namor's sanity, he managed to find his people again. They proceeded to launch an unsuccessful invasion of New York City.
After failing to take over New York City, the Atlanteans retreated back into the sea. Namor got into a fight with Dorma (his ladylove) as he was on his way home to the new Atlantis. She warned that in his absence his throne has been seized by the Warlord Krang. Namor ignored her, and so she called her guards to capture him. Once captured she took him to the Warlord Krang with the hopes that once Namor sees that his throne is gone he will give up his royal status and settle down to marry her.
Ooooor not. Feeling guilty about the whole thing Dorma released Namor into the wild. He then proceeded to go on an epic quest to retrieve Neptune's Trident and prove that he was the rightful king of Atlantis. Namor fought a couple of monsters, but it was actually his love for Dorma, and his willingness to stop his quest to go save her that made Neptune realize that Namor was worthy of the trident. So, Namor was bestowed the magical trident that proved Namor was the rightful king of Atlantis.
Peace reigned for awhile…then the humans had to go and do something stupid again. Atlantis was wracked with tremors as an oil well was being drilled much too close. Namor went to stop them, knowing that if the city was disturbed too greatly a monster they had created to stop another nuclear threat would be unleashed. He managed to stop the drilling, but not before the monster woke up. Namor went straight to New York, to complain about the drilling, and was overtaken by Puppet Master who seized control of his body and used it to commit crimes. Krang, still upset at being overthrown, goes to Puppet Master and asks him to make a puppet to control the monster that was unleashed and currently trying to destroy all of Atlantis.
Namor shook himself of the spell and managed to stop the rampaging monster. Krang went after Dorma, however, and convinced her that unless she married him, then he would use the monster puppet to destroy all of Atlantis and Namor too. Unknowing that Namor had already slain the beast, Dorma went with Krang. Namor was furious and did a lot of raging around. Bent of vengeance, Namor chased after Krang and Dorma. The whole mess was resolved, and Namor and Dorma married, but an evil sea princess Llyra pretended to be Dorma during the ceremonies in order to gain more power. Dorma did end up marrying Namor, but she died shortly after due to the evil princesses interference. And so, Namor became a widower.
He later found out that his father (long since thought dead) was actually alive. But then his father died fighting Tiger Shark, so it was a moot point. A while later Namor was deposed and came to the surface to join the Avengers. It was there that he met, and married, Marina. She then died, and Namor was a widowed…again. He raged around for a bit, because that is how the Sea King copes with feelings, and met a pair of oceanographers who came up with the curious discovery that his propensity towards rage was due to his blood chemistry. With their help he was able to stabilize himself and finally be the ruler that Atlantis deserved.
Using this newfound clarity, Namor began collecting treasures from sunken ships to finance a company he used as a global corporate presence keen on environmental conservation. During this time he lost his wings, they were damaged in a fight, and discovered that without them he could not fly. Luckily they were restored through time and healing. He traveled to another dimension and helped Iron Fist who did not die. Then he was reunited shortly with his mother who did. This left Namor once again, the sovereign ruler of Atlantis.
And then he found out he had a long-lost son Kamar. His son decided he was going to usurp the throne of Atlantis. He was killed in the attempt. The Sea King went back to life as normal after that. His next noteworthy campaign was to help the mutants of Utopia. Namor sympathized with them, since they were outsiders, and sided with the X-Men during the war with the Avengers over the Pheonix Force. He was one of the "Pheonix Five" when the force fractured between himself, Cyclops, Emma Frost, Colossus, and Magik. Captain America tried to talk sense into his old friend, but Namor refused to stand down. The Sub-Mariner was eventually brought down by a mass attack from the Avengers. He was the first of the Phoenix Five to fall.
He does not remember the attack, or any of the events since his son's death, and having come back to his senses in the middle of the harbor he is trying to figure out what is going on. He's not exactly happy about it.
ROLE-PLAYING SAMPLE
Of the many cities in the world, New York City seemed to be the one that Prince Namor of Atlantis visited more frequently then any other. So, it was not entirely a surprise when his head popped out of the murky depths of New York Harbor and he bobbed along like a cork, staring up at the great Lady Liberty who smiled down at him sweetly. The Sea King frowned. "Namor does not remember heading towards this city," his voice rumbled in thoughtful narration. "But this is not unusual. Namor's mind has been addled before. Quickly! I must remember what I have forgotten!"
Unfortunately, for our favorite mutant half-breed, it wasn't going to be as easy as that. He sunk back beneath the waves, dancing through the dappling sunlight with a grace that the land dwellers did not enjoy, and headed East from the feet of her lady Liberty. Namor moved fast. He moved faster then any other Atlantean could hope to go, but he stopped unexpectedly when he was met with a rock wall instead of the open ocean. The man's eyes widened in obvious confusion and he pushed back up to the surface to stare once more at the looming Lady Liberty. "This cannot be so!" the man said. "Namor went East of her lady Liberty. It seems something has contrived to keep the Avenging Son within it's clutches! I must escape and see to that my people are not in harm's way."
Fear for his people led the Sea King to scour the bay for an escape point. Each time he made for open ocean he was re-routed back towards the murky harbor waters. The pollution stung his gills and rage quivered just barely beneath the surface of his skin like the flickering shards of light that dappled the ocean floor. "Namor will find the reason for this forced captivity. The perpetrator will rue the day they thought they could keep the Sea-Mariner captive!" he declared shooting up towards the surface with a new objective. He would see what the surface dwelling humans had to say about this. Perhaps they too were caught in this web.
With water streaming off his back like a porpoise Namor took to the skies. He landed softly on a nearby pier, leaving a trail of seawater that slowly dwindled down into wet footprints as the Sea King meandered farther along the streets. He was met with the occasional odd stares. It was to be expected, after all, humans were supposed to gape in awe at his magnificence. The Avenging Son wasn't sure what he expected to find as he roamed the streets of New York City. Whatever it was, perhaps some magical explanation to explode out of nowhere and land on his lap, it didn't happen. He was left instead in confusion, and anger, as none of the humans seemed to be affected by whatever this force was that was keeping him stuck in New York's harbor.
If they were not affected by it, that meant they were causing it. That was the logic as far as Namor could come up with as rage boiled in his blood. The Atlantean took off, soaring straight up into the sky and arcing high above the skyscrapers of this human city. Sharp eyes sought a particular tower, one that would hold the answers he demanded, and within seconds the Sub-Mariner was bearing down on the Avenger's Tower.
The balcony doors opened with a great crash. Namor had never really been a door person. Actually, he was best at destroying them. "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!?" he shouted amongst the rubble that had once been doors. The great king stalked forward, searching for an Avenger he recognized to rattle some answers out of. Anyone would do. "What have you humans done? Namor is unable to leave your fetid harbor! Is this some ploy to fell Atlantis while it's king is indisposed?"
His wrath was like a tsunami. It broke cold and unexpected over the Avengers he had once called teammates.
