DESCRIPTION AND PERSONALITY
Despite standing at a little under five feet tall, Molly has a big personality. It's hard to tell she's got super strength, because she's built like a twig. The kid is in-between growth spurts, giving her an awkward and gangly look sometimes, or an awkward and pudgy look. Depends on theartistgrowth spurt. Her face is always round and childish, and still has a fair amount of baby fat on it. Her hair is light brown and goes to about mid-back. She always wears it down, and always suffers from a terrible case of hat-hair, because she's always wearing some sort of fantastical hat. Molly wears a hat because her mother told her that her hair was so tangly that birds would nest in it. Hats were the obvious anti-bird solution. As far as clothing goes, Molly dresses like any other pre-teen Californian girl. She favors the color pink, rainbows, and hearts, but her outfits vary wildly.
She is the youngest of the Runaways, and often acts like it. She has her naive moments, and her childishly idealistic ones. When she first set off with the runaways Molly thought that running away from home was a great adventure. Her idealism and cheerful nature shown through in that she was the only one to actually make herself a super hero costume, and is a fan of absurd and colorful headgear. She's a creative and colorful little girl who can often get swept up in the moment. She designed costumes for her friends, and loves to use their code names. She is a huge fangirl: Molly admires Dazzler, and has a crush on Wolverine. She also sleeps with a Doop plush doll. Steal him and she will end you.
Even though she grew up with a pair of very racist, and probably incestuous, parents Molly doesn't have any problem with people who aren't mutants like her. She will inform you that you better not be racist against her, but she's so openly curious about the world, and enjoys meeting different kinds of people that she obviously doesn't agree with her parent's philosophy. The Hayes girl is friendly, and loves to meet new people. She is often seen welcoming new members into their little gang of strays and is often the first to bond with others. Molly is very trusting, unless she's frightened. Then you should probably back off.
This little girl isn't all sunshine and rainbows. Molly, like any child, can get grumpy. Whether it's because she's tired, or frustrated, or homesick, Molly has her less-then-stellar moments where she whines and pouts and punches people out of buildings. When she's in a mood she can seem impossible, but it's pretty easy to coax her out of it. Molly responds well to jokes, food, and just being left alone to take a nap.
Molly is quite precocious, despite her age, and sometimes seems to know more then she should for a pre-teen. These pearls of wisdom are few and far between, but she is actually capable of giving sound advice…between putting hats on dinosaurs and napping against whoever is nearby.
POWERS AND ABILITIES
POWERS
SUPERHUMAN STRENGTH
Despite her tiny stature Molly is capable of lifting upwards of 100 tons. The upper limits of her powers have not been fully tested yet, but she has been seen toppling monsters as large as skyscrapers, tunneling through miles of rock, and lifting cars above her head. It is probably also not a good idea not to let her punch you.
INVULNERABILITY
While her powers are activated Molly shows some degree of invulnerability. It is unknown how far these go, however, she has shattered a shovel that hit her when her powers were activated.
SUPER ADORABLENESS
Actually this isn't a power. I am totally kidding you. But look at that face!
WEAKNESSES
SUPERHUMAN TIRED
When using her powers Molly gets tired extremely quickly and has the tendency to literally pass out after exerting too much energy. Caffeine can help for a short time, but it actually makes the crash worse. Once Molly has expended her energy she will fall asleep. Even in the middle of battle. When her powers turn off she is just as vulnerable as any human child. If, y'know, human children had a tendency to sleep in a battle field.
MINOR
Molly is only eleven. She can't function without adult care, or without the help of her older friends. She's still very much a child, and while she has her moments of gleaming wisdom and maturity they are a little stretched far and few between.
AMBER ALERT
Molly is considered a missing child and has been on and off the Amber Alert lists for the past year. She has a fairly recognizable face, if you're one of those people who combs the Amber Alerts a lot...I guess.
HISTORY
Molly grew up with her parents, a pair of telepathic mutants who posed as a doctor and a speech therapist. Growing up with a pair of doctors wasn't super fun, but at least they weren't dentists. Molly was perfectly happy living with her parents until they turned out to be evil. It happened during an annual charity get-together just like any other. Molly had known the other kids as far back as she could remember: Alex, Gert, Chase, Nico, and Karolina. They were practically family. Hanging out with the big kids was always cool. She tagged along when they decided to sneak and see what actually happened during their parent's charity meetings. Molly wasn't actually allowed to know what happened. Alex had her sent away just in time to avoid witnessing their parents murder an innocent girl. She would not find out what happened that night until much later.
The next night Molly woke up to find her friends had barged into her house and were attacking her mother. The little girl had absolutely no idea why they were doing this, or why they had a dinosaur, and her mutant powers woke for the first time. What looked like her friends attacking her mother had turned out to be an obvious ambush on the part of the parents. Molly joined her friends in the escape, not entirely understanding what was going on, but certainly enjoying the adventure. She didn't believe at first that her parents were evil. That didn't mean she couldn't have fun!
To help make up for the crimes of their parents the little group of Runaways decided to fight crime. Molly dived in with childish exuberance, thinking that fighting crime would make her an official super hero, and made herself a costume. The codename she decided on was Princess Powerful (though almost everyone else called her Bruiser). Their first attempt at crime fighting didn't go well. But! They did make a new friend named Topher. It turned out, though, that Topher was actually an evil vampire who wanted to feed on the group of friends. His accidental death at the hands of Karolina really rattled Molly. She then began to realize just how much things had changed and how this new life wasn't a game.
After discovering their parent's nefarious plans Molly and the gang decided to stop them. They decided that they were going to stop their parent's evil ritual. It was during this battle that they realized that Alex was actually loyal to their parents! His plans to take the six spots for his parents, himself, and Nico's family were interrupted when Molly destroyed the sacrifice for the Gobborim, ruining the ritual. The Gobborim become angry and destroy Alex. Their parents attack the monsters while the children escape, and are destroyed in the process.
Now that the Pride is gone their children are separated and placed in foster homes. Molly is sent to X-Corp, but she's not there long before Gert helps her escape to be with her friends again. They take off in the Leapfrog so that they can all stay together. Which would have worked out perfectly if Molly hadn't later woken up on a New York City subway with zero recollection of how she'd gotten there.
ROLE-PLAYING SAMPLE
"We are delayed because of train traffic ahead of us. We apologize for any inconvenience."
Chase must have been driving again. He always played weird stuff on the radio. Molly groaned as she was bumped into the person besides her in the Leapfrog. It felt like Gert, but when the person rudely elbowed her off the girl opened her eyes to realize she wasn't quite with her friends anymore. In fact…she had no idea where she was. The space was rectangular, and she was on a hard orange bucket seat. There were people everywhere and none of them would meet her gaze.
If Molly had a better understanding of 70s decor she might have realized that it was the inspiration for this particular train car. Orange and yellow bucket seats sat at odd angles to each other, lining the walls, and crawling towards the center of the car in the areas beside the window. She was in the seat next to the window. Above her head sat a large number seven in glowing diamond shape. Molly didn't understand what this meant but it looked pretty. A voice was saying something above her, the words garbled, but the people around her all seemed to be shifting as though they were about to leave.
"Grand Central," the voice overhead informed her. None of this information meant anything to the eleven year old. "This is the last stop on this train. Everyone please leave the train. Thank you for riding with MTA New York City Transit."
Since she was being told to leave the train the little girl grabbed her backpack, which had been sitting in her lap on the Leapfrog when she'd initially fallen asleep, and wandered out. She ended up in a subterranean cavern filled with too many people to be terribly frightening. The people had surged out of the train like bats escaping hell and were now swarming the staircase like their very lives depended on it. She followed them, for lack of anything better to do, and ended up in yet another tunnel. This one looked less scary and had signs telling her about letters and numbers that went uptown and downtown. There was also a sign that told her about streets at the end of a corridor, but it had a scary man in a uniform so she didn't go down that way.
Instead, and mostly by accident, the little girl ended up going through the revolving turnstiles that led her to Grant Central Station. Up the stairs she went and down the hall until she opened into the iconic train station. The little girl gave a gasp and stopped abruptly in her tracks to stare in awe at the ceiling above her. Someone bumped into her, cursing something about children, but her eyes were locked on the twinkling starry sky above. Like the hundreds of tourists around her, Molly stared in wonder at the vastness and the beauty of the building. Then she lost interest and wandered towards the fabled clock.
Molly was in between a rock and a hard place. She was lost. Her parents had always told her that if she were ever lost she should try to find a police officer. Then her parents had turned out to be super villains, and she'd become a ward of the state, before she'd run away with her friends again. Gert had told her before that the police weren't their friends anymore. Molly didn't entirely understand why not, but she knew it was a bad idea to ask the police where her friends were. This left her with talking to strangers. Which was something else her parents had told her never to do.
But then...her parents turned out to be super villains.
It was totally plausible everything they'd ever taught her was the opposite of the truth.
"Excuse me," the little girl went up to a man in a business suit. He completely ignored her. "EXCUSE ME!"
The man shot her a glare and moved away. An older woman frowned at her. "What's wrong, dearie?"
"I can't find my friends!" Molly confessed. "Have you seen them?"
The woman's brow furrowed for a moment. "I saw a group of young people walking off that way," the woman said pointing in a direction.
Molly's face lit up and she shouted a "Thanks!" over her shoulder as she rushed off in the indicated direction. Out the doors she went, spilling out onto the sidewalk. Her friends were nowhere in sight so she followed the stream of people, hoping that they all had a common destination.
This was how she'd ended up in Times Square.
The little girl stood awash in all the lights, images streaming across the buildings like she'd just stepped into an internet browser and suddenly the walls had ads. She stood on the new walking platform and stared, lost in the middle of New York City, and the colors and distractions of the famous Times Square.
