There were some things that Namor just didn't know how to deal with. Sure, he had the same problem as everyone else: he was stuck in New York City. His problems ran deeper, however, because biologically he wasn't built to thrive long-term in such a city. It also didn't help that the waters he could inhabit around here were polluted by humans. He had a people he needed to get back to, and the past few days..or months…or years…or something to remember. But at the moment, Namor's problem happened to be of the simpler kind. It was a door.
Aaaaaand now it was a very broken door.
A crashing noise shattered the white noise of the Avengers mansion as Namor suddenly appeared in the splintered wreckage that had been the doorway. The man in the green speedo seemed unaffected by the splinters, or projectiles, and easily strode inside the mansion ignoring the alarms he had set off. When it came to locked doors the Sea King was fairly similar to a cat: he just had to see what was on the other side. They were an offense to his royal personage.
While he wasn't unfamiliar with surface dweller homes, that didn't mean that Namor exactly appreciated them. It was terribly boxed in with none of the granduer of Atlantean architecture. They even put coverings over the windows! Though, he supposed here humans couldn't usually swim out them. "Namor does not understand human aesthetics in architecture." the man rumbled in thoughtful narration. "In this city they must all live in small spaces, like clams unto their shells." His eyes scanned the place where he would be staying (it was far better then the initial suggestion of the aquarium) until this Thanos nonsense could be figured out and Namor would be able to return to his people.
If the Gods were kind then he would not be here longer then a few days. If they were not, well, it was likely he would overstay his welcome…if he hadn't already. The Atlantean made his way through the mansion. The alarms had shut off, though whether of their own accord or because someone shut them off Namor didn't know, or care "At last! The shrieking wail desists! Now Namor may hear himself think once more. The surface dweller noises are unwelcome to Atlantean ears." the man rejoiced...if rejoicing were done stoically while stalking down a hallway. He continued through the halls opening every single closed door he came across. If it was locked, he broke it, if it was simply closed he swung it open with kingly force.
Most of the rooms were empty, though showing signs of habitation. He left them alone and continued his quest. In one room he found a human child. He had apparently startled her from some activity where she was huddled on the floor surrounded by colorful sticks. She made a squeaking noise and darted under the bed. "Do not fear, little human, Namor means no harm unto you and your people," he reassured her in an odd moment of kindness and continued onto the next room.

Loki loved this. He really did. Living here was great. It was perfect. He had a safe place to sleep, he could be warm at night, he could wait to see if Thor showed his face and he would be informed on if and when they found a way back home. It was perfect. He loved it. Nothing could be better. And he was learning how to be casual! Never before had the boy lived in such an easy life. Back in Asgard in Broxton he was almost killed on a regular basis and had to keep prepared at all times. His hood was almost always up and his green and golden garb was constantly worn. But it was now in the wash. The fabric. Not the gold. Gold ornaments didn't go in the wondrous washing machine.
Of course, there were more things that he could play with here. Like the oven and the stove and the television. Loki loved all the tech and it was his task to use all of them. So that was why he was in the kitchen, cooking. And blending. At the same time. But not with the same things. Certainly not cooking the blender. Or blending the cooker although that did seem very tempting a thought. Ikol watched from the bench and Loki didn't bother wondering how hygienic it was to have a magpie on the counter.
So it was that Loki was cooking bacon on the sizzling pan and was making a milkshake in the works. While this was going on, he cut open a roll and filled it with tomato ketchup. Tasty. He had found a strong love for such foods since having the time to find out about all the different foods. His mouth watered as the smell surrounded him. Checking on the bacon, he found that it was fully ready, crunchy and flavoursome. He filled the roll with the bacon and found that he had some left over which he put in the fridge for later. One never knew when one needed bacon. He then poured himself a glass of milkshake and took a sip. It tasted good. Everything was prefect and he made his own way back to his room, drinking his milkshake as he went.
Pausing by a broken door, he looked at it for a few seconds and then continued to his room. He managed to open the door and went in, eating and listening to the alarm. He wondered whether he should do something about it but this food was tasty. One of the other heroes would get it. So Loki started eating. Yes. It was good. Bacon roll. It had his seal of approval and the alarm went off. It was about time too. To be fair, he hadn't been too worried because Ikol had told him that it was Namor, a king of Atlantis and someone who they didn't need to worry about. Ikol really did come in handy.
The door was unlocked and so as it opened, Loki looked up, giving his best and most charming smile at the stranger. "This is Namor," Ikol told him and Loki put down his plate and took a quick sip of milkshake. "Hello Namor! I assume your the one who knocked down all those doors? I see you've mastered the art of opening them now, seeing as my door is not broken. Good to see that. It's always nice to have some doors around." He told the King with a casual remark.

There was another child in one of the rooms. Namor opened the door with a thud, his eyes taking in the room, as well as the surface dweller child who did not appear to be afraid of him. This was acceptable to Namor, the surface dwellers did not need to cower at his magnificence. They simply had to acknowledge it and not upset him. However, he was not so sure he appreciated the casual way in which the child addressed him.
"Do not presume to address the Monarch of the Realm Eternal in so light a manner, small one," the Sea King reprimanded as he strode forward into the doorway. He was not one to linger back like a frightened child. The man filled up the interior space with his presence. The man frowned, studying the child in front of him with the curiosity of a shark eying a surfboard. There was an element of danger there, but merely because the king did not always remember the impact he could have on others.
"Namor has come across many of his associates who no longer remember their longtime foe and ally the Sub-Mariner, and yet you, a young human knows it?" the man's voice rumbled in thoughtful narration and he drew his hand up towards his chin to strike a dramatic thinking pose. He let it drop quickly and regarded the child in front of him. "Who are you, surface dweller, to know my name?"

Loki enjoyed company. He loved word play, he enjoyed thinking on his feet. In other words, having the Prince of Atlantis march into his room was pretty much a good thing for the young god. As the king spoke to him, Loki grinned taking a bite of his delicious bacon roll and stood up instead of sitting on the floor. He was not shaken by the appearance and he smiled in a somewhat friendly manor at the 'Monarch of the Realm Eternal'. "Remember to be polite," Ikol warned him and Loki rolled his eyes at the bird, who turned to grooming his feathers. Seriously, this was going to be fun. Even if it did look like the king was considering whether he should have a Loki sized meal.
Eyes lit up with slight glee as he heard Namor refer to himself in the third person and he heard Ikol make a noise that went along the idea of 'oh no' or 'oh no'. And he must admit that he was rather tempted to mirror Namor's pose that clear was to suggest thinking. Only a lot more dramatic. Loki had decided that her rather liked this king of the seas. In fact, he had been about to introduce himself when Namor asked him for who he was and how he knew his name. Loki stretched, giving a few seconds to think of his answer. Well, he already knew what his answer was going to be but he liked to give the look of taking his time. Sometimes.
"I am a prince of Asgard, that most wondrous realm in the heavens!" Well, it was there when he last looked. Before that it had crashed onto Earth and was having some time there. "I would be a poor prince if I did not know of others who held such a rank as we do although I must admit that I am not one who will become king. Nah, that's more likely to go to my brother. You probably know him," The boy did love to ramble and he had yet to mimic the third person talk. He was going to see if it was common with this man. It did sound like so much fun. "As for my name, Loki is me and I am he." He finally announced. If anyone knew how to take a long time to get to the true answer, it was Loki and he looked pleased at his introduction.
"Now, if I may ask, what do you have against doors?"

So the child was a prince. Namor studied the boy in front of him for a moment. He knew of others from Asgard. "You are brother to Thor, little prince?" the fishman asked curiously. Namor knew Thor fairly well. As a member of the Avengers he and the elder prince of Asgard had been both allies and foes. "Namor knows him well. He is an honorable foe." this was just about the highest praise the Sea King was apt to give anybody and the timbre of his voice, and the softness of his eyes expressed this genuinely.
When the child said his name was Loki the man's sloping brows rose in mild curiosity. "I have heard of you, prince who the surface dwellers revere as gods." Namor obviously didn't agree them gods for he held Neptune in highest esteem, and was actually considered the God's regent. A prince in name, but a king in duties. "They call you the trickster, and speak ill of you, but Namor will judge for himself." the Sea King was a fair man when reasoned with. He was no longer as hot headed as he had been in his youth,
The last question took the Sea King by surprise. The man narrowed his eyes at the boy. "Namor has no ill will for the doors of this human dwelling," the man explained. "He merely finds their concealing nature an impediment to his search." The Atlantean opened a hand and gave a wide gesture at his surroundings that was as powerful as it was regal. "Namor is to stay in this human city until the Titan has been vanquished. He cannot stay long in the harbor, too foul and polluted by the wretched humans who care not for their environment," which explained why he wasn't living underwater like he normally did and why he was here…breaking all their doors.
"You too, are trapped here, Prince of Asgard?"

It was always fun meeting new people, especially when they didn't try to kill you immediately. Loki gave a nod at the question and smiled. "Indeed, he is," The boy replied cheerfully. Although at the next words he gave a small frown and Ikol quickly helped Loki out. "That's just is way," Ikol commented as he preened his feathers. "He is a great brother as well," Loki added with a smile. The boy did admire his brother. He wanted to be just like him when he grew up.
His cheerfulness disappeared somewhat when Namor mentioned that they were revered as gods by 'surface dwellers' as Namor called them. Loki knew that he didn't deserve such honours. He was, or had, after all, been terribly evil. Perhaps some of the other Asgardians deserved such honours but not him. Not yet. And Namor still seemed to refer to himself in third person from time to time. It was so tempting to join in for a boy of only twelve in physical appearance and memories of only a few years at best. "Loki is glad of your decision to judge him, meaning me, for yourself. It is an honour to have such a gift," The boy said, eyes glistening with amusement as he mirrored the speech of Namor in the pure innocence of seeing what it was like.
Well... maybe some of it was because he enjoyed playing around. And was the god of mischief. Okay! Maybe there was barely any innocent testing out this style of speech and more playing around, but the boy did have an innocent expression on his face. And it was the excuse he was going to probably go with if Namor caught him out on it. Which he probably would, judging by Ikol's small and almost inaudible sigh.
They went on to discuss doors and the trickster listened to what Namor had to say. So he wasn't going on some mass door genocide! Well, that was wonderful news! "They don't have doors back where you come from?" He boy asked with a grin, casually going to get his milkshake and taking a swig of it. "You know, there are ways of opening locked doors without smashing them. It's much more useful and can be used against doors that don't decide to be unhelpful and not smash." Loki commented calmly, looking at his bacon roll and wondering if he would get a chance to finish it before the bacon cooled down.
Then came the inevitable. The being trapped here. Loki let out a sigh. He didn't like being trapped here. He had to get back. There was plenty of things he needed to do at home. Such as saving the world. But he couldn't do that. It was annoying. "Yes, I am stuck here as well. I've tried to find a way out but obviously, I haven't. And I'm usually the master of finding ways in and out of things." The boy sighed. "This world does not seem to be beneficial to either of us," He commented, thinking about Namor's problem with the sea and his own problems with the fact that he was meant to go and save the world. And ensure his brother's death. Even if it couldn't be avoided.

Namor's eyes narrowed at the little prince who thought he could make a joke of the way the royal Atlantean spoke. "Do not mock Namor, little prince," the sea king warned softly. His voice might have been low, but the warning within it was not subtle. Luckily the tension was diffused when Loki started asking about doors. The man's mouth upturned wryly.
"The glittering realm of Atlantis has doors, small one, but they are not like the ones on the surface," the man gestured towards the door behind him. "Your doors are small, and conceal that which the surface crawlers would not have us know. Our doors exist as an absolute last defense for our shining city. While it is true some have tried to hide their nefarious deeds from Prince Namor behind closed doors within his realm, they saw swift justice, for there every door opens before his might!" although…that was pretty true on land too. And his explanation was making it pretty clear that the mighty Sub-Mariner shared his door problems with cats.
He was obviously on the wrong side of every closed door.
"There is no door mightier then the Sub-Mariner," the man replied coldly when Loki dared to suggest such a thing. The man seemed to puff up slightly as he said this, as though to make it even more apparent that he was pretty much a force of nature in a freaky fish-mutant casing. Obviously that line of conversation had been shot down.
The man nodded but made no comment about Loki being trapped here as well. By now that was what he expected. The Avengers were trapped here as well, not that he trusted the false Iron Man, and he could only assume that was true of the rest of the stronger community. The average surface-crawler, he had decided, was probably too stupid to realize they were trapped. Hah. But there was something Loki said that struck a chord with him.
"The earth's atmosphere is poisonous to you, Asgardian?" Namor asked, quirking a brow. He had seen Thor often enough he did not believe that was the case.

Why do people always assume I'm lying?

Loki could keep a straight face, never let anyone say anything against that. He was also fairly skilled at having a face that simply showed whatever emotion he wanted. So when Namor found him mocking with his attempt to copy Namor's style, the boy opened his eyes in shock and horror that the being had come to that conclusion. "Why would I mock your beautiful and unique style? I merely have not heard it used before and wanted to try it myself for ne'er have words been so beautifully spoken in my presence. But alas it seems I am not one to be able to speak as you do for already I have been unable to keep up," He said, sounding perfectly sincere as he spoke to the sea king. It wasn't really a lie. Or much of a lie in any case. It just was a sort of truth.
Listening to what Namor had to say about doors, Loki thought carefully about his next few words. He needed to get them right. "Well, doors are like that for surface dwellers. Each person has a room which is their 'shinning city' that they may want to keep to themselves. My room here is little but nothing and so I do not need to lock my doors but some may want the added security they get from it. After all, rooms can be very personal. Like a gateway to the soul if you want to be poetic." The boy said, using a fair few hand gestures to explain what he was saying when he tried to teach Namor about why some doors may be locked. "We don't really seem to have much plotting going on behind doors. At least not here." He said, tone more friendly now.
At the man's words about there being no door that could defeat him, Loki struggled to keep a straight face. It was amusing, though. And Namor seemed so proud of this feat. "Forsooth," He agreed calmly, using the rather archaic term because it felt a lot more appropriate when talking about that most dangerous of foes, the door. "I am sure that even those mighty metal doors are no match for someone such as you. But one must always live expecting something knew. And I know that I have my own way of getting past locked doors. Which is a bit less obvious than yours." The boy said conversationally to the king of the sea.
The next words of Namor had Loki blink and the child quickly retraced his words to see where Namor could have reached such a conclusion. And all the boy could conclude that Namor found this air poisonous and believed that Loki too struggled with it. "Nay, 'tis not the air that bothers me. Back home I had a task to complete and an important one at that. It does not fare me well to be away from my purpose and trapped in here. And it seemed to me that for you, trapped with this world full of doors that may or may not be locked, well, that is not something that would be beneficial to someone such as you," He said, words never faltering as he acted polite and did his best to keep his guest entertained and happy.

From the severe expression on the Sea King's face it was obvious that Loki's words of flattery came up short. "Keep your flowery words, fool prince, Namor is not pacified by false flattery. Desist at once," and that was the end of it. Because once Namor decreed something it wasn't terribly easy to change his mind. He was also used to being obeyed, which made it difficult when people ignored his orders, because that was a slight and Namor had been known to attack for less provocation then that.
The things Loki said about doors made very little sense to Namor. His brow furrowed in contemplation of this new information. He did not understand how such a small space could be considered a kingdom. It would be nigh impossible to fit a ruling body within it, let alone multiple subjects. But then, he was the ruler of 70% of earth's surface. Anything looked small in comparison. "Namor will take this information into consideration," the man said finally. "Even though I do not understand the surface-dweller mindset."
He was used to ocean currents sweeping through his home much like an air breeze. He was also used to using windows as doors. Though, he could do that here as well since he flew through the air as well as he swam through the sea. When Loki mentioned a different way of getting past locked doors the fishman stared at the child curiously. "Show me your way of door-opening, small one," the king demanded.
Loki seemed surprised that Namor had asked if the atmosphere was poisonous. The Sea King didn't understand why, until the little surface-crawler explained the situation. It seemed everyone had something better they ought to be doing outside of New York City. This was hardly the reveal he had been looking for. No one else seemed to understand the hazards of being stuck in such polluted, deadly waters. The man narrowed his eyes when Loki brought up doors, as though they were the most of his troubles.
"The doors are inconsequential. Namor has a people to return to, an Atlantis to keep safe."

Fool Prince. Well, that was better than other titles that people used for him, Loki decided. As a title it wasn't too bad. He still was a prince after all. But the fact that he had been foiled and Namor had asked for him to stop with his honeyed words, that Kid!Loki really wanted to continue. It was a challenge to the small boy. A challenge of sorts. Loki knew that Namor wanted him to stop but everyone needed to be manipulated by his words! "False flattery?" He asked in a perfectly innocent voice. "I had no idea that the words that came from my lips were lies. I do find your style of speak both beautiful and unique and I cannot keep up with it. The 'Fool Prince' spoke the truth," He said honestly. It was the truth, just not the whole truth. And with bits being exaggerated. He didn't need to know that.
A smile spread across the boy's face as Namor said that he would try to understand the Midgardians... surface-dweller mindset. "Cool. It really does help in a lot of things. The People of Midgard aren't as willing or able to understand other culture it seems. But they are learning." Loki said. He was rather fond of the Midgardians himself. They had phones and internet and milkshakes and bacon! All good things. He didn't know what there was not to like about them. Thinking about that... "Have you tried bacon yet?" Loki asked with all the enthusiasm of a young boy as he looked up at the much taller being.
A grin came across Loki's face at Namor's demand and the boy stretched, appearing to think about it although he already had an idea of what to do. He knew he really shouldn't tease the Submariner but he was Loki. "Welll.... I could do. But you didn't ask me nicely and I'm told that if I want something I have to say my please and thank yous." (not that he actually did) "Also, what would I get out of your request. You said it in such a tone that I do feel that I should get something out of this bargain," The boy said, his tone once again sounding innocent. To be fair, Loki wasn't bothered about sharing the secret. He knew that it was an art that one had to learn and he only had to show it but there was no harm in getting a deal out of things if he could.
Namor's next words brought and idea to Loki's head. Doors! Namor hated doors! And what kept him from his people that he wanted to return to? A door. Of sorts. Well, Loki would consider it a door and the mortal scientists would probably give it another more complicated name. But it was a door. And the more people he had trying to figure a way back the better. There was already Norman Osborn. "Ah, but doors do matter. You see it is a door that keeps us all from our own homes and families and people. Someone has created this place and the doors are one way. People fall in and we can't get back out. Or else we have been dragged in. Or both! But it still remains that a door is stopping us going back. If we could open it like you do with these, then we'd be free! We only need to find it and figure out how to open it. Then we can all go back home," The boy said, trying to keep the note of desperation out of his voice. He wanted home so much. He had to save the world. He missed his big brother.
