Why do people always assume I'm lying?

It had started off fairly innocently, as all things tend to do. He had a coin spare and he saw something that he could use to make money with the coin. A man was doing that trick with a stone underneath cup, switching the stone between the other two cups. In other words, it was a game of cheating and mischief. One that Loki could win. They key was knowing when the stone was switched and Ikol kept an eye from the other side while Loki made his own judgement. Ikol would then give him the answer and Loki could see how well he was doing. Most of the time he got the right cup by himself. Still, with Ikol it meant that out of ten games, he hadn't lost once. And he now had a tidy sum of money with him.
Then the gambling really started. The man, frustrated, brought out some cards and started to 'teach' Loki these 'fun card games'. It was proper gambling and the boy knew almost each game and the ones he didn't know, Ikol knew. So Loki pretended to be innocent to these games and need to be taught these. The man should have realised not to trust someone decked in green and with a gold circlet. Probably thought he was going to some sort of Comic Con. Still, after loosing the cup game so frequently, you'd think he'd have cottoned on. Still, as long as he was willing to part with the money, Loki would continue. Maybe he had some trick up his sleeve at some point. So far it had only been the basics with him cheating and Loki giving the same in return.
Eventually the boy started to feel slightly guilty about this. To be fair, he did have Ikol on his side. Who had no problem with looking at the cards of their opponent. And Ikol had years, centuries even, of experience. Plus he was the god of mischief himself. "You know, I have a magpie who can look at your cards," He said. The man looked around and saw no magpie. "No you don't, kid," He said with a frown and kept on playing. It was great when you could tell the truth and no one believed you. Especially because it was so easy to tell when they wouldn't believe the truth. "I'm also the god of mischief," He said calmly as he dealt the cards. "Yeah right, and I'm the god of gambling. Don't say things like that. No one wants that god mentioned," He said and he shuddered.
Loki wondered whether he should feel bad. This man clearly wasn't a fan of him and here he was, innocently gambling with him. Only there wasn't anything innocent. Both parties were cheating while appearing to be playing with the utmost honour. And Loki's pile of money was growing heavier and heavier in his pocket. The man had not won a single thing yet and Loki had to wonder whether he should let him win just one game. It did seem rather unfair, even after he had basically told the man who he was and that he had a magpie helping him to win the game.

LES. It's what New Yorkers call the Lower East Side. Once a notoriously overcrowded and unsanitary slum, the Lower East Side is now considered one of Manhattan’s most fashionable neighborhoods. Bargain-clothing stores and pickle vendors have given way to indie boutiques and sceney eateries, though there are a few cherished survivors of the former Jewish stronghold, like venerable smoked-fish purveyors Russ & Daughters and pastrami legend Katz’s Delicatessen. It was there she had stopped, remembering that in her world this was one of her favorite places to dine and she blamed Clint for this. Katz had the best Reuben this side of New York with their Corned Beef, Swiss Cheese, and Sauerkraut topped with an amazing Russian dressing it had won her over back home and Natasha wondered if it would be just as heavenly as it was back then.
Call it a little piece of home but even ex-Russian spies had a heart and did suffer from a bit of home sickness. True this was in almost every bit and every way New York that she knew but it wasn't 'her' New York, and all the craziness aside having a little bit of home comfort felt good. Stepping out of the deli and onto the street Natasha headed to a nearby park to sit by a bench and eat her sandwich. Closing her eyes she savored the first bite allowing a smile satisfying smile to creep into her face as her taste buds exploded with that familiar sensation of euphoria. The Reuben was as delicious here as it was in her world.
Her blue green eyes finally opened and she took another bite, looking about the park languidly eating her sandwich. It was then her eyes fell upon the most curious of scenes. A young boy dressed in the most curious of ways, particularly with the gold circlet around his head. There was something familiar about his eyes; something that tugged at her subconscious. Natasha watched as the young boy gambled at cards unable to help over hearing the last bits of the conversation. "I'm also the god of mischief," the young boy said calmly as he dealt the cards. Causing Natasha to eye the boy just a little more closely. The only God of Mischief she knew was a megalomaniac Asgardian prince that nearly destroyed New York with his power hungry scheme and made Clint his personal attack dog. But this boy was much too young to be the man she tangled with. Was he just play acting; pretending to be the Trickster or perhaps a reincarnation? Natasha's eyes narrowed slightly as she watched the game between man and boy unfold. She never was the jump in head first kind of person. She was the watch, gather and learn and at the moment as she schooled her regard to look nothing more than a casual spectator she ate her sandwich contentedly as the game progressed, each party she noted were cheating while appearing to be playing with the utmost of honor. Now there was irony in that to be sure. Though Natasha did not smile even at the amusement of the money that was ever growing heavier in the young boy's pocket.
The older man had not won a single hand making Natasha sense that there was something not altogether normal about the young boy. Could he be serious about being the Prince of Lies and god of mischief; an irony in itself to be so truthful with his identity but then again the growing wealth the boy accrued could very well be a testament to his trickery. There was an unsettling feeling that grew from Natasha as she watched the card game though it never showed outwardly in her expression. Instead she simply looked the curious spectator.=== ATTIRE: CASUAL GEAR TAG: KIDLOKI WORDS: 630

There was no denying that the gambling was going well for only one of the two of them. And Loki was under no illusion. The fact that Ikol was telling him what cards the man had was a big cheating that this man could never hope to achieve. Still, maybe it was time to take a test, seeing as he already had made a tidy sum of money and could win back any losses. So he told the man the cards he had. And even showed him when the man didn't believe him. Loki and Ikol still won that game. And both sides still cheated. It wasn't too bad apart from the morality that Loki had. The man had to be down to his last few pennies for gambling because he was being so careful now but still loosing. He wasn't going to give up. So this was what it was like to be addicted to something?
Loki looked at Ikol. The magpie didn't seem to be that bothered by the display. In fact, Loki thought that he would be willing enough to continue until the man had lost every penny. But perhaps it would be teaching the man a lesson. Or perhaps Loki himself was enjoying this and was addicted. He pressed his lips and carried on with the game. There was no worry for his part. Things were too settled for Loki to loose. In the end, the boy decided that he should continue on until the end and then give back a large part of his earnings. It was only fair. After all, he was good now. And he had been told that gambling wasn't the best thing for a hero to do. Especially when one cheated... The game was going more slowly now that the man was on his last few pennies and Ikol had gone strangely silent, looking off to the side. Loki cast a glance and saw what looked like a red haired woman. He frowned and went back to his game. Why would Ikol look at her?
"I'm going to leave you to finish this off. I won't be far," Ikol said and Loki knew he could not answer without seeming weird. Or weirder than he already was. So Loki kept at the game and still managed to not loose. It was harder going but the game was set. And the time did come that he had won and the man had to admit defeat with nothing left. "Here, have this," Loki said, handing back a large part of his winnings. The man stared at him with confusion on his face. "Why?" He asked and Loki ignored Ikol's attempts to get his attention. "You need it more than I do." He said and the man thanked him and was walking off when Ikol flew into his shoulder.
"Ow! Ikol!" The boy protested, rubbing his shoulder after the impact. Green eyes glared at the magpie who was sitting opposite him on the top of a car. "What was that for?" "You weren't paying attention and giving away what we had won," "We don't need the money," He said, lowing his voice. "You are too soft hearted. Besides, you are being watched by the Black Widow," Loki froze for a second and then looked around. "The red haired woman," Ikol prompted. Loki's eyes returned to the woman. "Time to greet and meet?" He asked, getting up to walk over the woman. "Just be careful," Ikol warned. He had long since begun to understand that Loki was going to try and speak to all the heroes while he was here. Loki was always hopeful for news of his brother.
"Hello!" The boy greeted with much cheer as he strode forwards to the woman on the bench, Ikol following behind him. "You don't mind if I sit down here, do you?" He asked the woman, a grin on his face and his green eyes glowing with mischief. He wanted to see if he would be recognised. It was a fun game to play after all. Eyes temporarily went to see Ikol land near by and watch them with his beaded eyes, ready to give Loki his opinion should it be needed. Or if Loki asked.
