Mum and I have been talking about the change to Thor. Neither of us are too happy and would prefer to have the usual female characters that Marvel has drawn so that they aren't stuck with such out of proportion proportions (and same for the men as well). As a female comic reader, I've never been bothered by whether the characters are male or female and I actually prefer characters to remain who they are. And Thor is not a title but an actual name. We don't change who Steve Rodgers is, or Tony Stark. However, the radio pointed out that Thor, Caps and Iron Man are Marvel's 'Big Three' and if we consider that DC has a woman in their big three, they may need to have a big female character. But I would rather see female characters get more advertising, like their own films. And less tight fitting and revealing outfits.

Alas, that is the way of the business unfortunately. I do agree with the notion that female characters do need to have more advertising and more exposure to the mass audiences. I'm happy that Jessica Jones, a significant heroine in her own right, is getting her own Netflix series alongside Iron Fist, Daredevil and Luke Cage. I know for a fact that Marvel does have plans to bring Carol Danvers (Ms.Marvel/Captain Marvel) into the MCU, but I think they are waiting for the right opportunity to introduce her.
I believe that it is very sad that we got a Guardians of the Galaxy movie before we ever saw a Wonder Woman movie on the big screen. In fact, I strongly disagree with the popular notion at Warner Bros. that Wonder Woman was far too complicated to be introduced in her own movie. What bothers me is that a character as iconic and important to our culture to get the "Black Widow" treatment she is going to be getting in Batman V. Superman.

I would not call that a "Black Widow" treatment, Black Widow has been building up since Iron Man. She is more movies than the other guys and unlike Wonder Woman there is talk about her getting her own movie and I think that just says something about Joss, he has always liked strong women and Black Widow wasn't really sloshed off to the side.
As for Thor as a woman, I am not overly upset by it. Yes Thor is a name not a title, but she chooses that name much like Kate picks Hawkeye, not Hawkgirl, not Hawklady, just like how this character isn't Lady Thor or something like that. Also Thor is not going away, as a friend put it he was doing an Hercules. Yes I agree that the Women do need more advertising, and I think marvel is moving that way, just slowly.
