Why do people always assume I'm lying?

Unfortunately, the only clothing that he had didn't exactly fit in with everyone else. So he was receiving a fairly large berth, Loki noticed as he moved through the city, hood pulled up and over his head, eyes down cast. The green clothing, the tunic style of it, the gold around the edges, the metal gold armour around his waist, the golden circle on his chest bearing the pronged, black insignia. It was probably a good thing that they couldn't see his crown, the circlet with the pronged horns at the front and wings at the side. No doubt that would make it set in their minds who he really was. "This is folly," Ikol said, gliding over him on silent wings as birds tend to do. "Hush, Ikol. We're stuck here, I might as well get used to the area," He answered, turning to walk down a more deserted path.
This was not easy. But he would pull through. That's what he always did. He managed. He had a good tongue and a swift mind, no one could dispute this. Still, if he were to be able to cope here, he would need to find a way to get money to get some sort of disguise. And some sort of home. He wasn't going to live on the streets. Sure his own bedroom consisted of a straw bed, a pillow and piles of books and scrolls but it was home.
"Couldn't you explore at night, when there's less chance of being seen?" Ikol asked, flying down to perch on Loki's shoulders as he looked around the street. There was one person coming the other way. That was it. "It helps to be able to see things," Loki pointed out, poking his head around a corner. Dead end that lead to some houses. Not too interesting. He walked onwards. "But you draw attention to yourself when out like this. We can't risk getting attacked," Ikol protested. "You always worried too much, evil me." Loki replied, walking on confidently. Ikol shook his bird head and flew before Loki. "You didn't listen to me about the teller and look at what happened. You would have been finished if I hadn't gotten Thor to save you," The magpie warned. "Fine!" Loki exclaimed, turning around.
The roads were now empty.
"I'll fly ahead and find some place for you to hole down in. I have the feeling that-" Ikol started before Loki interrupted him. "I can't keep hidden, Ikol. You best get used to that part," Loki replied, turning around a corner and bumping into a teenager. The eighteen year old male let out a breath as did Loki. Ikol let out a caw and flew higher into the air. Green eyes took in the punch of other teenagers. "Ah," Loki said, taking a step back and then to the side, meaning to go around them. They moved, blocking his exit.
With a start, Loki realised that due to the collision, his hood had been dislodged and the crown on his head was visible. He reached to pull the hood back up. "Hello good man, I simply mean to pass so I can return to my older brother. He gets worried when I disappear, he's very protective of me. So I'll just be going-" He said, taking a few more steps, trying to move around them. One grabbed his arm and he tore his arm away from them. Damn. He needed Thor.
"You're right, he does look like a young version of Loki," Said on of the teenagers. Well, this wasn't good. He could practically hear Ikol saying 'I told you so,' in his head. It was very annoying. "Think we'd get rewards for turning him in," Asked another and Loki put on his best innocent face - which to be fair, was very good. "I think I understand where the confusion is coming from. Loki is an Asgardian, as am I. I just happen to wear the same colours because it's cheaper. I'm not made out of money," He said, using his lying tongue that made them stumble for words and a decision. "You have a crown and a wearing gold," Another finally pointed out. "Yes, distant relative of Thor, so partly royal. And it's a metal that looks like gold. Not that common but cheap enough," He said, weaving his lies as fast as he could.

To say that Molly Hayes was lost was the understatement of the century. It probably didn't help that whenever she asked an adult if they'd seen a dinosaur they laughed and told her to try the Museum of Natural History. The youngest Runaway wasn't looking for any dead dinosaurs! She was looking for her friends! And to ask about Old Lace just made sense when that was probably what people would notice, and run screaming from, first. She had scoured Times Square, almost hurting a man she'd thought was a statue until he moved and caused her to scream and knock him over. Molly had run away then, clutching her backpack, while the people behind her had laughed. The little girl tried to ignore them. She missed her parents, even if they were evil, and she missed her friends the most. Molly ended up in a slightly less crowded area of the city. She had no idea where she was...not that she'd originally had much understanding of her current circumstances. Her stomach gave a disheartening gurgle and the little girl hung her head as she trudged down the sidewalk. She paused to ask an elderly man sitting on the stoop of his house if he'd seen any dinosaurs going past. "She's a raptor, but she's a nice one, she doesn't eat people!" Molly had explained, but the man had only chuckled and shook his head. So, her quest continued. That was, of course, until she saw what looked to be a bunch of teenagers who appeared to be picking on a kid who was probably her age. Or it was possible she was misreading the situation because she was upset. Either way the teenagers were going to regret ever hearing about preteens. "HEY!"The little girl stormed forward with a scowl on her pudgy face under a deceptively cheerful pink cat hat. "Leave him alone, you big stupid bullies!" "Hey, look," one of the teens said. "It's your girlfriend." Molly honestly wasn't in the mood for stupid jokes. She was tired, and hungry, and she wanted her friends back! The child's eyes blazed bright pink as the tips of her hair reacted like fiber optic cables. She picked up the first thing she saw, which happened to be a shiny silver car parked on the side of the road. She hefted the car over her head as though it weighed nothing. And to a mutant who could bench press a hundred tons, it really wasn't. A word was shouted that Molly knew she wasn't allowed to repeat. The little girl also knew she wasn't supposed to use her powers on people who weren't already super-powered bad guys, but it was really tempting to throw a car at them, or something. But maybe between her and the other kid in the cool hat they could scare the dumb meanie-heads off. That plan was probably pretty solid considering Molly had already hefted up a parked car and it's alarm was wailing like she'd offended it.

To say that he wasn't surprised by the appearance of another girl around his age would be an understatement. Mainly it was the fact that she was defending him. The trickster looked to Ikol who was settled on the roof of a car, watching the goings on. But the good thing was that the child didn't seem to mind him at all. The bad news was that he would have to protect the Midgardian from these boys who seemed to be after Loki because of what he had done in the past. It wasn't like he couldn't cope with a beating anyway. He just would prefer not to get one.
They made a remark about the girl being his girlfriend and the trickster rolled his eyes at this. Typical. "Can't get your own?" He jibed back, only provoking them further. They were about to take a step towards him when the girl took her action and lifted up a car. Green eyes widened slightly and Ikol flew off from the car looking disgruntled at this. "You plan on sticking around?" He asked, shoulders raised and one hand out to the side in a questioning gesture. Of course, the teenagers didn't seem to be focused on him but instead on the fact that a child was wielding a car as a weapon. And to be fair, he should get her to put it down. Mortals generally didn't do very well when hit by cars.
"Chill, they won't attack," The trickster said to the girl, walking around to the side of her and offering a smile. "They may have little brain but I don't think that they're lacking enough intelligence to try and battle with a car," He told her, watching the teenagers who were taking a few steps back. "You don't know who he is, he's-" A teenager girl started before the trickster cut her off. "If I am who you say I am, would you even be here?" He asked, his voice sounding reasonable. The doubt in the teenagers suddenly increased, coupled with the fear of the girl and they started to run.
"Thank you for your assistance, strong maiden," Loki said, turning to look at the girl, hood over his head still. "You don't have to thank her. You should be getting somewhere safe. This only proves my point," Ikol said, flying over head, looking for a place to land considering that the cars seemed far less safe at this point. He was skeptical that this girl would remain on Loki's side. Especially if she found out who he was.

All eyes were on her, but that sort of tended to happen when you were eleven and hefting a car over your head. One of the teenagers tried to reason with her, saying that if she knew the little boy she'd be okay with the bullying. Or at least, that's what the tone implied. The boy cut her off before she could finish, saying something that probably should have caused a little lightbulb, or at least an inkling of distrust, to fire off in the synapsis of her brain. Especially since that was the mouse that spooked the proverbial teenage elephant.Molly watched as the teenagers ran away, a triumphant smile on her face. Her glowing eyes turned to the other child who had come over to try and convince her that the teens wouldn't be dumb enough to attack her. That she could put the car down. He was right, now that they were gone. The Hayes girl set the car back into it's spot, though it was now partially on the curb, and at the thud of the tires hitting pavement the whining alarm ceased. The little girl's eyes suddenly became their natural color and she swayed woozily in the spot. She probably shouldn't have used her powers. She was even more tired now. Caffeine, or a nap, sounded amazing. He was thanking her, but his way of doing so sounded silly. "You talk funny," Molly pointed out candidly. "But your costume is cool. I like your hat." She plopped down on the ground with a whine of, "I'm tiiiiiiiired." Her backpack hit the ground behind her, the straps falling from her shoulders, and she pulled the thing into her lap. "Are you a superhero? You have a cool costume. I'm a superhero, but I don't have a cool costume. My friends think it's silly. We don't even go by code names anymore!" the little girl hugged the bag in her lap. "But I can't find my friends. I think somebody took them! Have you seen a dinosaur?" she glanced at Loki hopefully.

Seeing that he had stopped the teenagers from revealing his name and the girl had scared them with her actions. And his words had caused some fear inside them as well. If he was who they thought he was, then he would hurt them. And if he wasn't, they had just tried to beat up a random boy in strange dress. They left in a hurry and the trickster smiles and his head bowed down in some relief. At least he would now have some piece, although he didn't know how long it would be for. Ikol flew down and landed on the edge of a window, watching the two. "Be careful," The bird warned and Loki gave a small nod.
Then the girl suddenly appeared drowsy and with the curtsy that came from being a prince of the realm, he went to catch the girl, supporting her carefully as she seemed to suddenly become exhausted. "Clearly I spoke too soon," Ikol said and Loki rolled his eyes at this. So this girl exhausted herself by using her powers. Interesting. And useful to know. Now he just needed to now how long it would last. Just in case she did turn against him considering what he was. Although he was going to do his best to remain a mystery. No point giving away his real name.
"Ugh, thanks," He said as she complimented his costume and hat. Without a word, he pulled the white hood over his head to hide the circlet. It had gotten him into more trouble than it should do. As did his costume. "Don't think those teenagers liked the costume so much. Probably feel that I'm looking better than them," He joked, cheerfully, as if the whole situation hadn't just happened.
The girl plopped down to the ground and Ikol flew down to stand on the pavement, looking between the two of them. "See, this is why it's good to use the thing between your ears at some point," Loki said with a grin, going to sit down next to her. His eyes stared ahead as she asked whether he was a super hero and then spoke about her own group of friends. Well, they had a point about code names. Loki had never stood by them but then again, he had no reason to have a secret identity like the others.
"Yes, I am one of those heroes. Hence the costume. Great job, considering the Fact that our reward is getting wear cool outfits," He said, not bothering to point out that most people considered him a villain and the fact that the clothes he wore were just his casual clothes. He did have a habit of lying. It simply made things easier. "I don't think someone took you friends. Everything here has been displaced. As for a dinosaur, I have not been so lucky to see one of those around," He answered calmly. Now... what did a dinosaur have to do with this?

The boy sat next to her, and Molly slumped over her bag, cuddling it to her chest as though it was the only thing keeping her grounded. The girl closed her eyes for a moment, before blinking them open again when he spoke. He was saying something about using what was in between her ears? Or something? The girl's brow furrowed in confusion. Did he mean her hat? When he said that he was also a hero she smiled at him brightly. Molly had no reason not to believe him. He was just another kid wearing a cool outfit. "The outfits are the best part!" Molly agreed. "But fighting is fun too. And maybe, if I get good enough, I'll be able to meet people like Wolverine and Doop!" there was no use hiding her obvious exuberance at such a prospect. These were her heroes. Everyone needed to know!"What do you mean everything has been displaced?" the girl asked, her brow furrowing under her pink cat hat in obvious confusion. "Do you know where they went?" her hands tightened on her bag, her knuckles turning white. "The last I remember we were running away, but then I woke up on a train underground!" the experience had obviously been terrifying for Molly and it was clear she was still shaken by everything that had happened since she'd woken up on the subway. When Loki said he hadn't seen any dinosaurs Molly slumped further and closed her eyes. "My friend Gert has a pet dinosaur! We travel around in a giant frog and fight bad guys! If you're a superhero too maybe you can join our group! We need more boys." her voice was getting softer and softer as she seemed to be drifting off to sleep.

Taking advantage of having company which wasn't running from him, the trickster decided to stay for a while. If he could make any allies it would be a great advantage for him. Especially considering the fact that he had been set upon by a group of teenagers. If this child was willing to defend him, then he was going to take advantage of it. He wondered whether Thor would agree with this. Keeping his name a secret and such. No doubt he would be pleased that Loki was making friends as such. But with lies, probably not so.
A friendly smile came across his face as the girl said that she found the outfit the best part. And then spoke about the fighting. Such a different ethic to the boy himself. Although he did understand the whole idea of meeting other famous heroes. He suspected that he would have the urge to meet the other heroes if it wasn't for the fact that most of them would probably want to toss him into a jail at the first opportunity, which they probably would find fairly easy to do if he didn't get a court case. Or find someone to help him. Or have a reason why they couldn't do that. And they still wouldn't be impressed if that was the case.
"Met many other heroes?" He asked, voice casual and friendly. In truth, Loki had only really met Thor. Sure he had a brief confrontation with Iron Man but that was it. The rest of his time had been holed up with the rest of Asgard. Apart from his brief trip to the Underworlds and Limbo but that could be ignored for the most part. Sort of.
At the question, he gave a small frown, trying to think of a way to describe the situation. It wasn't easy. He sat for a good second before answering. "Well, this city is isolated from it's world. There's no link to outside. Even for teleporters." He said, leaving out the part about using special ways to travel between realms by climbing the boughs of Yggdrasil. "Then there's the people. I believe we don't all come from wherever this New York comes from," He continued. Ikol gave him a quizzical look but Loki ignored it. He didn't need to explain his plans to the former version of himself. "So it isn't a case of where have they gone but where have we gone," He concluded, looking back towards the girl.
Listening to what else she had to say, it was impossible to miss the fact that she was becoming more and more tired, voice growing softer and softer. Ignoring the lack of rationality in the words that the girl had said, he focused on the fact that she seemed to be falling asleep. "You seem tired. Do you have a home which we can get you too?" He asked, placing a gloved hand on her shoulder to help support her from slumping forwards even further. Humans were much less durable and tired with a lot more ease, he remembered. Maybe even the super strong ones had this human factor.

When he asked about the heroes the group had met Molly perked up slightly. The girl lifted her head up from the bag. She had no problem filling the silence with chatter while he tried to figure out how to explain bizarre theories to an eleven year old. "We met Cloak and Dazzler! They were really nice except for the part where he tried to eat us with his cloak," she frowned at the memory, then brightened suddenly. "Oh! And we met Captain America once. He made us go into foster care after our parents got blown up trying to destroy the world. He had really bad breath."It seemed Loki had finally gathered his thoughts enough to give her an explanation. The girl's brow furrowed as her tired brain tried to understand something that alert adult brains would have trouble understanding. She was stuck in some weird isolated city? And that city was New York. Which really didn't look very new. She was pretty sure new things were supposed to be shinier and not full of dirt and pigeons or smell like farts. Then he said something that clicked. It fired off the everything is wrong synapsis in Molly's brain. "But I didn't go anywhere!" she protested, in a whiny voice that made it even more abundantly clear that she was tired. "At least, I didn't want to." the little girl hugged her backpack more tightly. "I miss my friends, and my Mommy and Daddy even if they're evil." the girl's face felt hot as tears clogged the back of her throat. "Why didn't they come to wherever we are with me?"She felt his hand on her shoulder, comforting her, and gave the boy a weak smile. Then he mentioned home and she burst into tears. Her eyes instantly rimmed red as twin rivers streamed down her face. "I'm sleh- eepy," she told him, but it came out more of a sob. "I wanna go ho-ome! I doh-on't wanna go bah-ack to cruh-ummy X-Corp!" it took her a little while to calm down, and she was still obviously just on the edge of bursting back into tears again. The little girl sniffled and rubber her face on the sleeves of her sweatshirt. "Do...do you know how to get back?" she asked hopefully. So far Loki had all the answers. She was hoping he would continue to have them. Because she certainly didn't.

Perfectly fine to listen to what the girl had to say, the trickster took in the names that she had said. As well as the story, giving a nod to show that he was paying attention. Nearly eaten by a cloak. That had to be a new experience. Then the child explained how she met Captain America and her parents had tried to blow up the world. Well, parents all did get into problems. Loki wasn't one to forget that he had to try and save the worlds otherwise his 'father' would destroy Midgard to protect Asgard from the Serpent. "Parents can really make bad decisions at times, can't they?" He said with a shrug and a smile.
Having explained the situation as much as he understood it, Loki didn't expect any more questions but this seemed not to be the case and he gave a roll of his eyes. "But you have. Not by choice but the world around has changed. Like when you take a cup of water and turn it upside down. The water comes out. The water doesn't have a choice," He explained, trying to use things in a simpler format for the child.
"We have to cope with what we've got. Make new friends and allies on the journey until we can get back to where we belong," He said, using his words to his advantage. If he could keep her on his side it would be useful. Whether he got into a spot of bother with his former allies or the heroes who still thought he was a villain. It certainly wasn't too easy a life. "I don't know how this works. Why some people end up here and not others. But we have all left people behind." He said softly. He missed his brother.
Suddenly the girl started crying and he looked at Ikol. "You really were much better with members of the opposite gender," The bird said and he rubbed her back, gently and slightly hesitantly. "Is there any place here where you sleep heer?" He asked, adding in a tone of concern into his voice. "As for getting back to our own worlds, I have no idea. Otherwise I wouldn't be here." He said, tone going lighter with humour in his voice as he tried to cheer the girl up.

The things that the other kid was saying weren't exactly full of hope. The little girl's hopeful expression fell, as she sniffed loudly again, but she managed to keep the tears from coming back. She didn't like being water that didn't have a choice! She wanted to be...a caterpillar or something that had a choice when it came out of the cup. He made sense: she'd been told before that she had to make the best she could with what she had. But it had always seemed so much easier when the others were with her. She had no idea how much the older Runaways sheltered her. Now that they were gone she was alone. And the aloneness seemed incredibly foreign and frightening to the eleven year old. But she wasn't alone! She'd found Loki, and just like she hadn't let the teenagers beat him up, he hadn't run away when she started to cry. When he asked if she had anyplace to sleep in New York the little girl shook her head. Her throat felt tight and hot, and there was a pressure in her head that kept her from answering vocally until she swallowed the ball of emotion down. "I don't wanna go back to X-Corp, or to an orphanage!" she confided to Loki. "Nico was in an orphanage. She says they're like the ones from Annie, but with less singing, and more scrubbing," Molly was obviously horrified by this prospect. She hated chores. "Wait- you're lost here too?" the little mutant picked her head up to stare at Loki more curiously before slumping back in defeated exhaustion. She'd figured he just had all the answers because he was older then her. That was how it worked with Nico, and Gert, and the others. "Do you know where we could find an adult to help us? Maybe somebody like Wolverine or Doop?"

Finally the girl stopped crying and Loki didn't hide the sigh of relief that came from him at this. There was only the occasional sniff. He could manage with that. Because really, how was one supposed to cope with a girl crying? Last time (and really only time) he had spoken with a girl who looked his age... well she wasn't really the kind to cry and had magical powers as well as being the handmaiden to a powerful goddess. That, he could handle. Or more to the point she could handle herself.
A frown pulled down at his features as she said that she had nowhere to sleep. Well, that didn't make matters any easier for either of them. Still, you've make do with what you've got. Right? Well, he could try and find an orphanage or some heroes to take - Scratch that. He'd just heard her words. That wasn't going to make things too easy. "Well, every place is different but sometimes one does have to pull their own weight. Besides, scrubbing isn't half as bad as what I had to do when I was back with my folks," He said lightly. After all, his duty had been mucking out his brother's giant and willful beasts of burden. "Let's just say I'll be glad to never see a goat again in a life time." He said cheerfully.
Right, so where would be a good place? He could bring her to his base of sorts. True it was an abandoned house with no bed but it was secluded. Maybe they could find a hotel that would offer a free room with a few kind words. Weren't mortals meant to be kind and accommodating? As long as he kept his hood up it shouldn't be that much of a problem with any luck. "Maybe we can get you a hotel room to rest in?" He suggested, not sure whether he intended to look after this girl for too long. That would probably be cruel. His life would not be good to drag a mortal along on.
"I wouldn't call it 'lost'. Everyone's the water here. We've all got taken in and can't get back out. We're all as 'lost' as each other as far as I can tell," He explained, not bothering to sugar coat anything. It was best that she knew the harsh realities. "Even the adults. But you should try and find one of those heroes after you've gotten some rest. They'll probably be able to find you a place to live while we all try figure a way back to our own homes." He said, encouragement in his voice. She would do best there but he knew better than to get involved with the adults heroes after all the work his adult self had done trying to kill most of them. And the world. They kind of took that personally.

When Loki mentioned that everyone had to pull their own weight, Molly was a little too tired to catch the metaphor. "I'm good at lifting weight," the little girl informed him with a half proud, half exhausted smile. Though, after her lifting the car that was clearly believable. Her nose wrinkled when he mentioned things that parents made him do. She could relate. Having evil mutant parents was bad enough, but evil mutant doctors?"Did your parents make you eat bran flakes?" she asked, while on the subject of horrible parents. It was kind of her litmus test. There were very few things Molly could think of that were worse then being forced to eat bran flakes. But then he mentioned goats. Did he live on a farm? That was kinda cool. "Why don't you like goats?" the girl asked, her head lolling to the side before she jerked awake again. "I think goats are funny. Once I was at the petting zoo and one tried to eat my hat."When he suggested finding her a hotel room she gave an, "Okay," with a half-lidded I'm really to tired to care sort of stare. When he said she should go seek out an adult after she'd gotten some sleep the little girl nodded, or at least, it looked like she did. She jerked back awake and frowned at him. "What about you? Aren't you coming?" she asked. He'd repeated you instead of we which gave the little mutant the inclination that this was going to be a solitary adventure. Her eyes widened in alarm, or as much as they could manage, before narrowing tiredly again. "You shouldn't be alone. What if the teenagers come back?" she asked, clearly worried about him. "I bet Wolverine and Doop would help you too. They're good mutants. They help everybody."It was painfully obvious she'd never actually met either of them.

The trickster sighed and rolled his eyes as the girl said that she was good at lifting weights. "It's a phrase. It basically means you have to do enough work to make up for all the food that you are going to require," He explained with a shrug, not too bothered with having to do this. More often than not, everyone got confused with one thing or another that he was saying. Which was possibly because his plans were never simple but disregarding that...
Hearing about the Bran Flakes he raised his eyebrows. He had not heard of such foods but it sounded like it may be some form of crop. Now would be a good time to have the internet working so he could research Bran Flakes on the marvelous internet. "We have a different type of diet in our house hold," He said with a shrug. It mainly featured large feats of meat every day. Salted meats and bread. It was rather a heavy sort of meal to have every day.
"Try shoveling the dung of such beasts. All day. From giant goats. That exist only to eat and leave unpleasant remains," He explained although he did not look scared from such an experience. It had been most unpleasant but he had managed to make sure that such a duty did not remain his for too long. As she said that a goat tried to eat her hat, he gestured forwards with a hand. "See! They exist to eat!" He exclaimed, wondering if his more awake self would help to try and give the child more energy.
As she gave an OK to finding a hotel room, Loki jumped to his feet and gave a stretch with Ikol taking t the air. "Right, on our way," He said cheerfully, offering a hand to her so that she might use it to help her get up. "Ikol, find a nearby hotel," He said softly to the bird so that the girl wouldn't hear what he had said. "I'll take you to the hotel and check up on you if you want but I've got places to go, things to do," He replied, voice light and jolly.
At her next words he gave a small sigh. That was exactly the reason why he should be alone. The teenagers had tried to be heroes as they suspected his true self. Any hero of any sort would not take kindly to him, he suspected, apart from his brother. Even then, Ikol seemed to be wary that if they did meet a Thor here, he may be different to the one Loki knew. "I'm just some kid. The heroes don't need someone like me around. Not when something like this is going on. But I'm sure any hero would be delighted to have your company and powers," He replied, hoping to distract her from himself.

Loki was getting to his feet still bantering about goats. The girl simply groaned, and leaned so that her forehead was even closer to the pavement in front of her. She didn't want to move. She felt incredibly comfortable just sitting here on the pavement and listening to him talk about goats, and then it clicked what dung meant. "EWWWWWWWW!" her head shot up so fast it felt funny. "You had to shovel POOP?" she made a terribly disgruntled face like she had never before pondered such levels of horrible. "You win," not that it had really been a contest as far as horrible parentage was concerned. She took the offered hand, obviously not concerned about it still having goat poop on it, and let him help her to her feet. The girl staggered again as she pulled her backpack onto her back but his cheerfulness, and the idea that she'd get to sleep somewhere comfy spurred her on when she felt more like curling into a ball and sleeping on somebody's stoop. When he said that the heroes didn't need his help because he was just some kid Molly squinted at him. It was a tired squint, and not one of distrust. "Of course they don't need your help," Molly said. "They don't need my help either, not really," she followed after him slowly. "But they're adults, and the good guys, so they're supposed to help us." the little girl frowned tiredly at him, but there was concern in her eyes. "I don't want you to get hurt. You're the only friend I've got here." she paused, shooting him a smile. "If you want to be my friend."
"We could form a cool hat club!" she suggested, suddenly seeming more alert, as she perked up at the idea. "Hey, why were those teenagers bothering you anyway?"

A small chuckle came from his lips as the girl went 'ewww' and figured out what dung had meant and he was told that he won the competition over who had the worse parents. He didn't bother to tell her that this had been the lighter of the punishments he could receive. And something to keep him safe and out of trouble. "One of the dreadful tasks that one must go through if one lives on a farm, huh?" He said, using her earlier words about being on the farm. It made a nice explanation. Especially as she had suggested it earlier.
Helping the girl up, Loki had little problem - he was stronger than most Midgardians because of his biology. He tried not to let it show too much. He needed to keep the appearance of an average guy but this girl seemed to be so casual - unaware of what was going on. Or maybe he was extra cautious. Still, he was quick on his feet and could weave words to keep her finding out his true self or take to his feet if needed.
A small smile crept upon his lips as the child said that the heroes would protect them because that as what adults did. How sheltered and delicate a life she must live. Loki wasn't going to break that for her. Especially as she was offering to be his friend. That would be useful to have. "Of course I'll be your friend," He agreed, unsure how hollow the words would be but putting full feeling into his voice and words. "And you'll be more help than I could ever be," He said, with a smile. "You have powers and they are pretty epic," He said kindly.
Starting off towards a hotel, he kept his attention on the girl. He still did not know her name but was unwilling to ask. He would have to give a false name in return no doubt. That would just be inconvenient. "Yes, cool hats does seem to be our thing," He said with a grin as she seemed to liven up at the suggestion that she had put forwards. At the next question, his mind raced forwards, going through different answers he could give. There was no way that he would allow her to know the truth. "They thought they could get a good price out of my circlet. A rather common thing in Asgard but a reminder of home. We're not rich and it is a precious gift to me," He lied, keeping up the pretense of living on a farm but explaining his crown and keeping a little bit of truth with the fact that he came from the realm eternal.
