DESCRIPTION AND PERSONALITY
Liz is best described as fearless. Which in this particular case is quite different from courageous. A young woman blatantly open with her opinions, often to the dislike and intense discomfort of those around her. From the time when she drunkenly tried toslobber onmake out with Peter Parker, to that happy phase of her life when she was the human embodiment of mutant phobia, Liz has a history of doing and saying whatever comes into her head, with absolutely no thought for any future consequencesor ironies of fate.
A bit of a hot head, Liz goes at everything with gusto. Whether that thing be partying with her friends, or hating on super powered minorities, for her it’s all the same thing. That said, her mutant phobia is a thing of the past now. After the true identity of her father/uncle was revealed and her own powers manifested, she quickly (if somewhat stubbornly) changed her tune. That and her bestie MJ was getting it on with her close friend and resident web slinger Peter. Although she is still weirded out by how normal life was at the Institute.
In general Liz is actually a pretty likeable girl. Full of energy, she brings the fun to any room she’s in. Her smile stretches from ear to ear, and her sarcastic sense of humour has no problem pushing boundaries to get a laugh. Like that one time Wolverine flirted with her and she threatened to burn the hair off his nipples. Ah memories.
Her fearlessness means Liz is the first to launch into battleliterally, making a plan up as she goes along. She’s pretty down to earth and fairly easy going, contrary to what some might expect when they learn about her past mutant phobia. However, since her phobia came about when she learnt her uncle (aka father) was a mutant and it was this that led to his death, it’s somewhat understandable she’d be a little afraid of turning out like that guy too.
Liz likes to feel good, so she tends to wear stylish outfits that highlight her natural curves. But, due to that nasty little side effect of her powers she tends to avoid forking out small fortunes on designer labels. Otherwise she’d be broke and naked.
POWERS AND ABILITIES
Liz has the exact same powers as the 616 continuity Firestar. How you may ask, given that they are two entirely different people? I have no idea, chat to the guys over at Marvel HQ. But for now, lets role with it.
Microwave energy generation:
- Microwave energy manipulation
- Microwave emission heat
- Microwave emission flight
- Partial microwave emission immunity
- Psionic disruption
Liz is constantly absorbing and emitting microwave energy she’s collected from the Earth’s electromagnetic field and space. By focusing Liz is able to manipulate this energy in practically any way she wants. This focus tends to create a shimmering aura around her, which is a bit of a giveaway that she’s planning on unleashing her powers. But on the plus side, it looks freaking awesome. With a mental headbutt she can command this energy to hone in on a target, making it catch fire, melt, or her personal favourite, explode. Naturally this means Liz has the potential for being a major badass, considering her endless and bountiful supply of vast quantities of energy. But, since destroying the planet’s atmosphere or microwaving an entire city is usually frowned upon, she keeps her badassery in moderation… except for when she’s in space (which has yet to happen), then all bets are off.
As she is so linked in to all things microwave, Liz has recently discovered she has the ability to sense signals like cell phones and remote controls. And on a far more useful note: whether last nights leftovers are finished reheating from a mile away.
Speaking of reheating, think about how much heat that little microwave has to generate in order to cook that meal all the way through. Now imagine that microwave is not powered by a 12 volt powerpoint, but rather the combined intergalactic emissions of billions of stars. See where i’m going with this? That’s right, Liz is one hot mama. So hot in fact that she can rocket straight at a cliff and melt the rock so fast no brakes were necessary. Drop a car on her and she can melt it before one speck of grease lands on her pretty little head. This girl could live in the Arctic and be as toasty as a mammoth in Tahiti.
The fact that she can set her body aflame helps her stay warm too. This is the one aspect of her powers that differs from the 616 Firestar. Where Angelica Jones superheats the air around her to create the flaming plasma, Liz superheats her surface of her own skin. Which has the unfortunate side effect of reducing her clothes to ashes. Thankfully the flames slightly dehumanise her, preserving her modesty until she turns them off. As confident as she is, Liz is not a fan of this particular attention seeking tool.
However she has learnt to deal with it so that she can enjoy the benefits of being on fire. Namely, shooting a jet of flames out her feet to make her fly. She’s such a pocket rocket that she can even drag super heavy things along for the ride, like a 500 pound Colossus getting his metal on. Since she is able to create enough heat to melt solid rock in a instant, Liz is easily able to create enough jet power to fly at super speeds.
For the most part Liz is immune to microwave energy, meaning she wont cook her insides if she decides to go sun baking one afternoon. However, unlike 616 Firestar, she is as yet completely unaware that she is not entirely shielded from her emissions, and is slowly going sterile. Maybe Henry Pym might make a 2nd suit and fix her up now that they share a universe. Maybe not. Who can know these things?
And finally, Liz is able to disrupt psionic powers like those of the talented Emma Frost. By boosting her microwave absorption to high levels she can counteract the psychic attacks. But it is worth noting that at even at these high levels (except for maybe when she’s going fullretardbadass in space) Liz is not immune to psychic assault.
HISTORY
Thanks to a glorious one night stand with Franklin the Blob little Liz Allan was born. But, in order to protect her from his loyalty to the Brotherhood and allow her to live a normal life, the Blob took on the role of Uncle Frank, popping by every now and then to check up on his favourite niece. It was because of this that Liz got to grow up besties with Mary Jane and future hero Peter Parker.
Aside from that one time she got drunk (underage drinking woot!) and tried to hook up with him (Peter turned her down when MJ showed up), and their little heart to heart post a Green Goblin attack on the high school, Liz and Peter never came anywhere close to romance. Which is probably a good thing considering the drop dead gorgeous Johnny Storm joined her school shortly thereafter.
On the down side, this was at a time in her life when Liz was the poster child for mutant hate. So when Johnny went all “flame on” during their date things spiralled downhill pretty fast. Johnny thought she was mad at him for being a mutant (which is true), but MJ also shared the little secret which had been shared in the strictest of best friend trust (traitor!) that Liz was actually afraid she had been the one to set him on fire (which is also possibly true). From that moment she refused to acknowledge his existence any more, and poor Johnny left the school soon after.
This mutant phobia got even more out of hand when Kitty Pryde joined the school. Things were said, tensions flared, and even MJ basically told her to shut it. In an epic twist of fate that must have had the powers that be in stitches, Liz manifested her powers at the height of her mutant phobia years. Naturally she blamed it all on her date Johnny (poor guy can’t catch a break. They finally make up and she agrees to speak to him again, only for her to blame him for making her catch fire). But, after Iceman and Spider-Man chat with her (why they were conveniently at the beach party no one knows), and she remembers good old Uncle Frank the mutant, Liz begrudgingly begins to ponder the fact that she may actually be a mutant (as opposed to the prior theory that Johnny sneezed and gave her a serious case of mutant fever).
Badda bing badda boom enter Magneto with a message from dear estranged-we-do-not-speak-his-name-elusive-father-figure. Dad was a mutant too? And part of your merry band of mutants? Whoa, plot twists!
Iceman and Spider-Man fend him off long enough for Liz to head home and confront her mother, where it is revealed Uncle Fred is actually none other than Daddy Franklin, aka the Blob. Reeling from this news, as well as frankly disturbing mental pictures, Liz is so not ready to deal with Magneto rocking up again demanding to take her to go see Uncle Dad, closely followed by the X-men, ever searching for ways to thwart Magneto’s dastardly plans. Consulting Spider-Man the third wheel, and finding his advice utterly useless, Liz decides to opt out of hanging out with any of these mutant folks, and instead jets over to MJ’s house.
Spider-Man, being her close friend Peter Parker, figured out where Liz was going and swung out in pursuit. Iceman trailed along behind cause why not.
Upon arrival Peter took off the mask to show Liz being a mutant wasn’t so bad, her phobia about mutants being thrown ever further into doubt as all her questions about Peter’s miscellaneous injuries and absences over the years were answered. Mad at her mother for keeping Uncle Dad a secret, and just wanting people to stop chasing her, Liz agreed when Iceman joined the party and offered her a place at Xavier’s school.
Her time at the mansion was short lived, but full of note worthy incidents. Liz could not fathom why everyone went around acting all normal when they were obviously not. Nor could she believe when Wolverine hit on her, responding with violent threats of nipple burning gusto. She took on the codename Firestar cause all the cool kids had one, and found out the spine chilling fate her Uncle Dad being killed by Yellow Jacket literally crawling out of his head! Ew much?
The X-Men broke up and Liz went home to enjoy the benefits of Uncle Dad’s inheritance. Unfortunately part of this inheritance was a secret half brother known as Teddy. The fact that he looked just like dearly departed Uncle Dad repulsed her, but she put up with him because money.
Several months passed pretending to be a normal human at school with Teddy. And things were going alright until one of Teddy’s friends pulled a gun. The Vice Principal was shot dead when he tried to get the gun, and Teddy was shot as well. Unfortunately the bullets bounced off, revealing Teddy had inherited more than just looks from Uncle Dad.
This same friend then freaked out about the local news identifying him as a mutant along with Teddy, and it was at this point that Liz finally had enough of normal life. Where once she had feared and hated mutants, her attitudes had completely reversed (except for the men in her family). So Liz got her flame on and confronted this so called friend about if he had a problem with mutants. Her friends feared her, the students ran for their lives, Teddy’s friend pulled a gun, and Liz blew the gun/friend/half the cafeteria to smithereens.
Once again people conveniently showed up on the scene. Jean Grey and her posse to offer sanctuary, SHIELD to take them all in, and Quicksilver to take Teddy. Surprisingly Teddy wanted to go with Quicksilver, given how obviously Liz disliked him. And in a moment of self revelation, she realised she didn’t hate him that much, not wanting him to go. But go he did. So Liz went with Jean, and they in turn joined a new SHIELD covert ops group known as Ultimate X.
ROLE-PLAYING SAMPLE
Liz rolled her head from side to side, letting out a soft satisfied sigh as the bones cracked, relieving the stress that had built up there. Across from her Derek raised an eyebrow, obviously impressed by the volume those cracks had.
“What? We’ve been on this plane for ages. I could have gotten this whole mission over with by now if Fury had just let me jet over there.” She grumbled defensively, something halfway between a pout and a smirk brushing her lips.
“Babe please. I can out fly you any day.” He grinned, his eyes flashing to those vertical slits that come out when he takes his avian form.
“Um, how bout no. Rockets are way faster than a mere bird like you.” Liz taunted, teeth coming to the fore as she too grinned, the imminent scent of a challenge filling the hold.
“You wanna go Allan!” Derek cried, leaping to his feet.
Before Liz had a chance to do anything more than tense her muscles to follow suit, Jean’s voice rang out from the cockpit.
“Park it kids. There’s a high chance we’ll have to leg it from this mission so you can race to see who can run away the fastest soon enough, alright?” She called over her shoulder.
“Who you calling kid? I’m older than-”
Derek never got a chance to finish his sentence, at least not that Liz knew of. One moment she was sitting in the back of a jet decked out in camo and all the tools she’d need for a covert op, the next she was waking up in the middle of a garbage filled back alley with the mother of all hang overs.
“Ohh, son of a flying firetruck…” she groaned, staggering to her feet, trying her best to gather her wits and remember how she got here.
Leaning on the wall for support, Liz stumbled her way out onto the street, more than a little surprised to find herself in her familiar haunt of New York. Even more surprised to find she was still all dressed up for espionage.
What the heck was going on? Had Jean figured out how to teleport her halfway around the world for no reason at all? Had something bad happened and forced them to bail out?
Fear for her team mates suddenly gripped Liz and her eyes darted around with new focus.
“Jean! Derek!” She yelled, dashing back into the alley on unsteady legs.
But even after searching the entire block, trying them on their radio, and mentally calling Jean’s name so loudly the telepath must surely of been deafened by it, Liz found nothing. Now basically back to full functioning with a pounding headache, Firestar knew something was very, very wrong. Her team mates were gone, so now was a time for stealth over running in circles shouting and drawing what would most likely be very unwelcome attention. Especially from whoever or whatever had brought her here.
Taking a calming breath, with every nerve on alert, Liz zipped up her jacket, hiding all her gear, and set off downtown towards her old friend Peter Parker’s house. MJ had kept her well informed about his death and recent mysterious return to the living. Since the Xavier Institute was out of commission, and she had no idea where SHIELD’s HQ was in New York, Spidey was her best bet for super powered back up. Even if he was an evil clone or something.
However, as Liz made her way through the city it became ever more apparent that this was not the same New York she had grown up in. At first she had put it down to the fact that she had been away for awhile, but some of the changes were just way too big to have happened in her absence. Especially considering buildings she knew had been destroyed were still standing.
Now throughly confused, and equally afraid, Liz increased her pace. Something was very, very wrong here, and the sooner she got to Peter’s, the better.
