DANE, LORNA // POLARIS

While they both have oddly colored hair, lorna dane is only the half-sister of pietro maximoff; related only through their father, erik magnus lensherr. lorna stands at a shorter five-foot-six, though her size does not limit her in any way when it comes to holding her own in physical altercations or verbal disputes. Bright green hair frames her face, matching the lime green irises of her eyes. When she uses her powers, her eyes glow a furious green that almost resembles a glow stick.

Her skin is smooth and relatively pale, much like her siblings. She takes after her mother when it comes to her physique, lacking an overt amount of muscle mass. while she is far from petite, lorna does not look like the warrior she really is. Her body, while well toned, is void of rippling muscles or protruding veins like other mutants.

Lorna dane is far from quiet or reserved; in fact, she tends to be brutally honest and put people in their place (specifically her brother and a certain cajun). while Lorna still doesn't completely buy into the idea of being fundamentally good, she finds herself fighting the good fight more often than not and is more than willing to sacrifice her own life in order to accomplish her mission and to protect those she cares about (also her brother and a certain Cajun).

a fierce fighter and an even fiercer woman, lorna doesn't take anyone's crap and is more than willing to tell people where to shove it when they cross her. despite this, she is hesitant to kill. citing her father's lack of regard for human life, Lorna goes to great lengths to avoid casualties at her own hands. However, Lorna won’t sacrifice the safety of others in order to preserve the life of one.

most importantly, lorna is extremely unstable. she can go from complacent to dangerous in a tenth of a second. her dependency on alcohol does not make her any more amicable, either, and instead typically leads to more violence. lorna is not one to be trifled with at any point in time.

Magnetic field manipulation: Can manipulate magnetism. while lorna is capable of using her powers to the extent of her father, magneto, she has yet to use them to the same extent. currently, lorna's primary use of her powers is to manipulate magnetic, gravitational, and and electrical fields, mostly lifting and manipulating metal to her will.

magnetic force-fields: used to protect herself and/or large groups from harm. can also be used to suspend persons or objects in the air.

magnetic flight: can suspend herself by riding gravitational fields.

electromagnetic sight: is capable of perceiving the world around her as electrical and magnetic energy. she can also perceive a person's natural magnetic aura.

magnetic pulse: focus magnetic energy into powerful concussive blasts. can also be used to overload or short-circuit electrical systems.

energy absorption: can absorb certain kinds of energy (ie. storm's electricity, cyclops' optic beams, havok's blasts) to boost her own powers to impressive amounts.

geomagnetic link: as the earth's emf field is affected, so is lorna. she is granted a form of immortality and a very limited healing factor by the field.

organic iron manipulation: control over materials such as the small amounts of iron present in a human's blood, allowing her to puppeteer a person with the use of their blood or even reverse the flow to render them unconscious.

metal/matter manipulation: can fully manipulate anything metal and can exert influence on non-metallic materials through the manipulation of the gravitational field.

electromagnetic spectrum manipulation: ability to manipulate the electromagnetic spectrum and some energies (ie. electricity, electromagnetic/magnetic energy). Polaris has a connection to this field, allowing her to handle various types of energies (ie. electric, gamma, x-rays, ultraviolet, visible light, lasers, etc).

lorna dane has lived a tragic and tumultuous life, starting with the death of her parents, which she accidentally destroyed with a sudden use of her powers as they began to develop at such a young age. miraculously adopted, her foster parents pretended to be her aunt and uncle and led Lorna to believe that her real parents had really died in a horrible plane crash, worried that she would be traumatized too greatly by the truth. however, when she turned 20, the truth was revealed and lorna was forced to face the true weight and effect of her powers.

her time with the x-men did not work out so well with lorna, being mind controlled and victimized by different villains several times through her career. the final straw took place shortly after she found out that magneto was her real father and she was left on genosha trying to balance the electromagnetic field after he had murdered a large amount of people at one time. while lorna was found and saved by storm and the x-men, her time with them ended rather quickly.

mental illness continued to plague lorna throughout her life, coming to a head when alex summers, her former boyfriend, decided to marry a human. lorna attempted to murder the woman, forging a metal suit much like her fathers before doing so. she was eventually stopped, but her relationship with many of the x-men was forever ruined.

shortly after joining x-factor, lorna was taken by apocalypse to be one of his horsemen; pestilence. this took another toll on lorna's mental stability and rendered her apathetic to the rest of the world. she continued to lose hope in not only herself, but her half-siblings as well.

eventually, lorna turned to alcohol as a release from her mental and emotional issues. unfortunately proving to be a rather violent drunk, lorna was taken into custody after attempting to shoot her brother, pietro, in public while rather intoxicated.

lorna woke in custody of a new group, later identified as serval industries, and was asked to lead the new x-factor, a role she is still adjusting to all while working to get through her mental issues.

Lorna sat in a dark booth in the corner with her feet kicked up on the filthy table, knocking back her fourth whiskey of the evening. She wasn't completely drunk, but she was pretty far from sober - not that anyone was going to cut her off. When she had showed up at the bar last week and the barkeep had tried to cut her off, he ended up needing to replace the jukebox and foosball table. Now, instead of angering the mutant, they resigned to letting her drink her fill and hope she wandered off from their establishment without causing too much damage. The bar was a total dive, anyway, and the barkeep preferred to make as much money as he wanted.

Wasn’t like there was a ‘flying under the influence’ for mutants or anything. Well, maybe there was, but his money was on Lorna being able to get out of any trouble someone threw at her.

“Keep… gimmeee anuthrrr…” Ok, so she was drunk, but that was what she was going for, anyway. Danger was driving her nuts and having Pietro around didn’t exactly help her nerves any, so Lorna had found the closest bar she could – one that was not on SHIELD’s radar – and made it her new hangout spot. Anyway, with everyone freaking out about what was going on in New York, she doubted that she was of anyone’s actual concern. The city had just vanished off the face of the Earth, along with her inhabitants, which left everyone flabbergasted – she wasn’t sure if that was an actual word, anymore, to be honest – and her off their radar.

A fresh drink was placed on her table hastily before the waitress darted off, as if Lorna might decide to throw her out the window if she wasn’t fast enough. Lorna gave her a drunken salute, almost poking her own eye out, before chugging the drink down and sloppily throwing down enough money to cover the bill and a more than generous tip.

Stumbling out into the alley, Lorna couldn’t help the loud belch that escaped her, making her giggle as it echoed through the emptiness surrounding her. “SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!” She placed a finger to her lips as she continued to stumble. “S’not vury lady-like.” Rounding the same corner she always rounded into an open before taking off into the open sky, Lorna was more than startled when she heard a blaring horn and turned to see a car hurtling straight towards her.

“WHAT THE---!?” She threw her hands up in front of her face, stopping the car in a total nose dive as she clenched her eyes shut. Certain that she was dead, Lorna opened one eye cautiously before opening the other. “How’d I end up in You Nork?”
