DESCRIPTION AND PERSONALITY
APPEARANCE: An anthropomorphic or human-looking raccoon (complete with a cybernetic skeleton and visible implants on his back), Rocket stands in at 3' 0 feet tall and has a lean physical appearance with brown eyes yet his outward appearance hasn't changed all that much. He is covered in brown-grey fur and has a pointed muzzle, his eyes are surrounded by patches of black fur around the eyes which contrasts with the white fur surrounding the black areas and resembles a bandit's mask. He has one black vertical mark on his forehead and slightly rounded white-rimmed ears.
He also retains the black-ringed tail, nose and mouthful of sharp teeth from his original form though his hands have become more like a human's with four fingers and a thumb, his feet also have five toes now and all his fingers and toes end in short claws. His primary outfit is an orange and black suit of light-weight flexible body armor with strap-like sleeves and knee-high trousers.
PERSONALITY: On the surface, Rocket can come across as abrasive with a slightly twisted and sarcastic sense of humor, a quick temper and a vicious streak due to his feral side if the right buttons are pushed. However this is just an angry and bitter act due to the way his life went, a defense mechanism to hide how emotionally vulnerable he is. He will lower this shield for people he trusts or is letting in and once he trusts someone, he can prove loyal, too loyal and losing a friend in any way will break him. And he actually chooses to do the right thing even if proving to not be entirely selfless and can be a little greedy. He also doesn't always mean everything he says and he will apologize when it goes too far, so long as he realizes it or someone points it out.
Rocket is also somewhat proud of his uniqueness but he can also prove self-conscious (because of all his self-loathing) especially if he is called names like vermin, pet or rodent and he will react in a hostile manner to such slurs especially if drunk. And when he does end up losing his temper in this manner, he will not think twice about trying to attack a bigger person. Yet this can be turned around as he can also sometimes be emotionally pushed into doubting his own self-worth to his friends, labeling himself a monster and a freak over what was done to him. Part of him really believes the horrible things people say about him sometimes and it surprises him that he has people who care about him.
POWERS AND ABILITIES
On the same level of intelligence as a human and having gained the ability to speak thanks to all of the experiments and genetic tampering that he was put through, Rocket has become a skilled, self-taught technician with a knack for making bombs and hacking computers. He also has a good amount of knowledge in the fields of technology and mechanics meaning he is capable of improvising, building and using weapons like guns, blasters, rocket-launchers and bombs even out of scavenged junk. Also being an expert marksman, these are his weapons of choice and the bigger the better, he is also a skilled pilot and even had his own ship; The Rack & Ruin back home.
Due to his small size, he prefers to use cunning and strategy over physical force yet he's no slouch in hand to hand combat either thanks to his agility. He is a good strategist who can come up with a plan using his current surroundings in next to no time or always seems to have one even if they don't work out for whatever reason (like the time Groot tried to help his best friend and a couple of new allies with busting out of the Kyln). Rocket is also a good tracker thanks to his senses of smell, hearing and sight which includes mild night-vision.
Like the rest of his kind, he has more sensitive hands than most other beings and the downside to this is any large enough cuts or grazes could end up causing him minor pain plus his cybernetic skeleton means he is a little vulnerable to EMP bursts. Despite his cybernetic implants boosting the minor strength his kind has, he is not as strong as Groot or Drax, possessing only average strength that puts him more or less a little below the level of an average human. His size can work against him as he's smaller than most and could be restrained by one or more such beings.
HISTORY
One of several animals originating from the backwater planet known as Terra, Rocket or Subject 89P13 as the alien inhabitants of Halfworld called him was enhanced to the point that he was transformed into a more humanoid and sentient life-form. They didn't stop there and continued to perform painful experiments on him for the next few years. Becoming sick of this living nightmare, Rocket and one other test subject, a now anthropomorphic female otter escaped from the laboratory. In a fit of rage, the raccoon destroyed the place on discovering he was capable of tinkering with mechanical things including throwing together a bomb.
Fleeing the planet on a stolen ship, both anthropomorphic mammals eventually parted ways though it was on good terms. Following this, Rocket would meet and befriend the tree-like alien simply known as Groot and the two would end up becoming partners, and eventually best friends.
Adopting a career as bounty hunters and mercenaries, the duo would find themselves randomly hunting for targets in Xandar's capital city and pinpointed a Terran called Peter Quill, who happened to have had a price put on his head by the Ravagers. As they attempted to catch him, a green-skinned woman (the adopted daughter of Thanos or a well-known yet powerful tyrant) was targeting Quill herself and all four ended up getting into a fight. This resulted in the local law enforcement or the Nova Corps arresting all of the brawlers and sending them to the prison called the Kyln.
At the prison, the bounty hunters got the point they weren't to be messed with across to the rest of the prisoners while the woman's or Gamora's reputation preceded her yet Quill was able to appeal to Rocket's greedy side. Making an escape plan, the raccoon started to outline it to the others but Groot's attempt to help meant they had to seriously step up their escape plan. The escape proved successful but the quartet found themselves going from four to five as another prisoner known as Drax joined them as he wanted to avenge the deaths of his wife and child by killing their murderer, Ronan.
Heading for Knowhere as Gamora had set up a buyer for the orb that had been the reason behind her attacking Quill, the escaped prisoners soon made contact with this buyer - a being called the Collector after a drunken outburst from Rocket as he revealed the most painful part of his past. The artifact was then revealed to be an Infinity Stone, a powerful item dating back to the time of the Big Bang but the Collector's slave girl purposely activated the stone and triggered a large explosion.
As the group's opinions on what to do next differed, they found their debate cut short as both the Ravagers, and thanks to Drax making contact with him, Ronan the Accuser arrived. Quill, Gamora and Rocket tried to fight back but in the attempt the other two were rescued by the Ravagers before dying out in space. Rocket returned to the mining colony and vented his frustration at Drax, the larger alien knowing that he had messed up and decided to help put things right.
As they decided to rescue the others, the trio attacked the Ravagers' ship to learn Peter and Gamora were alright and Quill had arranged a ceasefire. Holding a small private meeting, the group of five decided to step up and stop Ronan's desire to avenge his father, grandfather and great-grandfather by using the Infinity Stone to destroy all life on Xandar.
As Quill, Gamora, Drax, and Groot managed to get aboard Ronan's ship, Rocket would help the Nova Corps in an aerial defense, an action which cost a lot of the Corps their lives. Pushed into action, Rocket would fly the ship he was in right in Ronan's personal chamber; that, combined with damage from the Infinity Stone, meant the Kree ship suffered heavy damage and started to fall from the sky...
ROLE-PLAYING SAMPLE
He ran his tongue along his top lip automatically as he hadn't eaten since waking up here either after all and it sure as hell wasn't Xandar. Judging by the city's inhabitants, this had to be Quill's homeworld but how had he ended up here. He doubted Ronan had been 'nice enough' to dump them on another planet.
He was a little concerned for the rest, still was for the three who were still out there yet while he had more or less only met most of them, Groot had been his partner for so long that it didn't feel right without him around. Add to that his comm-link wasn't working and meant he couldn't contact any of the others, find out if they had won or not and that worried him more than anything. He was just starting to like Quill and the other two.
His gaze moved around the area as his ears stiffened. The sights and smells of the city were kind of proving to be distracting and one hand slowly came up to rub at the back of his neck, and something called Halloween was going on - allowing him to walk the streets. The raccoon paused to stare into a television shop as the news-announcer on multiple screens had her mouth moving silently. The device seemed set to be on mute and he frowned, wondering just what the woman had said before moving on.
Pausing a moment later as he became distracted by a flashing soft drink advertisement on the building on the opposite side of the street, he stopped and studied it even as his nostrils flared slightly. Forcing himself to relax, he turned to lean up against the side of one of the buildings for a few moments. Rocket didn't look up at the main road and seemed to have tuned out any footsteps out for a few seconds, people had constantly been going to and fro past the alley-way after all. Pushing himself away from the wall as the smell of food and a slight but sharp twisting sensation at the pit of his stomach reminded him that he kind of needed to eat and he continued walking.
Having already lifted a wallet only to take the cash from it before ditching the thing in the first trash-can he came across before he licked his claws before counting the small narrow bits of paper. He had observed the humans handing this over and getting stuff in return, meaning it was the local currency and Rocket frowned as he headed for some place called Five Guys, the smells drawing him like a magnet. Watching the humans buying food for a minute, he ordered a hamburger with tomato, pickles, grilled onions, ketchup, mustard and hot sauce, cajun fries and a cup of raspberry cola coke.
He took the food to go and the remainder of the money then went to find a bench to sit down and eat. Finding one on the sidewalk, he sat down to put the paper bag and cup next to him before picking out a few fries and sticking them in his mouth before chewing then swallowing them before taking a sip of his soda. He continued to pick at his fries for a few moments then took another sip of his drink then reached in for the burger. Unwrapping it once he had pulled it out of the paper bag, Rocket took a good-sized bite then chewed on it with casually, not sure what it would taste like. Once he had eaten, he could try to fix his comm-link, get some answers and hopefully get off this frackin' backwater mud-ball...
