So...I'll just come out and say it - this site has become pretty inactive. I know I can't really say much since I was MIA for at least 4-5 months (maybe more?) while some personal stuff happened. And I know a lot of people just have stuff going on in life, which is obviously more important and totally understandable.
But we need to find a way to keep the site relatively active or it could very well just die off. And I love the people here that I've been RPing with, so I don't want that to happen. I also think the setting and storyline of this site has a lot to be mined still, which can really help us stand out among other Marvel RP sites.
I'm not creating this thread to be all doom and gloom, but I did want to bring up a few things:
- How can we get this site back to being as active as it was? Should we be advertising/affiliating? Is there some other approach that can help us? I've never run an RP site or anything, so I don't know the most efficient way to remedy this. - This is more or less just a question, how often are the Mods active? I'm just curious since I only hop on for a few sessions of a few minutes a day, I'm not trying to be mean or point fingers or anything. But not having people here to answer questions of people that wander in and also not being around to approve/critique apps quickly can be a potential missed opportunity. - is there a reason other than personal life that has caused people to go inactive? Something about the site in particular? Have people moved on to other sites? Or are there other reasons?
I know that I'm not the most active person, but I have noticed a deterioration in participation on this site, and that's going to make it hard to attract new people, which seems to possibly be what we need right now. I don't know the right answer for any of this, I just wanted to bring it up as a talking point more or less. Somewhere for us all to talk and discuss this issue. I've seen a lot of RP sites I loved die a quiet death, and I think just talking about this is a good way to help bring some perspective and solutions on the issue.

Ok so not a mod or admin, but gonna put my two cents in anyways Your concerns are valid and you bring up good points. However if RL has taken people away or just plain lost interest in the site, there isn't much we can do about them. We just have to make the best of what we've got. I plan to be here until the place literally is shut down. My posting is not rapid fire because I play hockey in the winter and soccer in the summer plus I work and have a string of other activities (I'm in a band too so we have practice and stuff at night) that makes my presence on board sporadic (I am sometimes gone 1-3 days before I get to log in.) It really comes down to my schedule during the day as to if I log in or not. I do like writing with the lot of you though and I am pretty laid back when it comes to expecting replies so if it takes a month to reply to me I'm fine with that, I'll be here right to the end (hopefully this is not the end). *crosses fingers* It's not in my nature to quit on things and I'm certainly not gonna give up on the site here and the few that have remained to post I'll still post with ya XD. I'll try to check in more maybe through the day on my phone in case people do have questions in the cbox because you're right if questions aren't answered then less likely that guest will stick around to make an app. I'm not sure how often Admins or Mods actually check the site but their accounts show up from time to time so plus side...they aren't gone So yeah, I'm just gonna keep on posting and plotting with the members still here. That being said the characters I do have I can make work with anyone else's characters so if you have a plot in mind and want help getting it off the ground I can lend a hand or find a way to. I'm gonna be making a mutant character as well of the 'Hero' variety so that I have that represented for those that find interacting with a villain or an anti-hero won't work with their character (which is all I got atm). Anyways, yeah I know things are slow here but I'm gonna keep doing what I'm doing and post / plot with the lot of you still left, cause I like this site and some pretty cool stuff has come out of this place for me

Yeah I totally understand IRL stuff and I know people come and go and lose interest. That's going to happen regardless of anything we do. And I plan on sticking around too - I'm not trying to accuse anyone of anything, these things happen. I myself have had a few long stretches of absence as well, and I don't think anyone should ever feel bad if they have other obligations or anything. I just want to make sure we can keep this place relatively active and appealing for new people, and just wanted to get people's thoughts on how we can make that possible given the current situation. That's all. I'll always be here to plot and post with people as well

Okay, so in case it's been so long that no one remembers me, hi! I genuinely do not have enough sorrys to cover how bad I feel about not having posted since January and not having even logged in at all during the month of April. I won't speak for any other mod or admin because I don't pretend to know anyone else's situations (although I think Spidey had a crap ton of stuff going on), but I will totally admit that I had no real reason for my own personal inactivity other than a combination of writer's block and lethargy. And that doesn't excuse not being on in at least a moderator role in the even new people showed up or existing members had any issues to discuss. So for those things I am deeply sorry. I don't promise to improve because I won't run the chance of making myself a liar as well, but I will promise to try to be more active and even proactive if possible.
Now as far as the points brought up about how we can get this thing back on track, I'm definitely not the answer guy but I'll address your suggestions the best I can.
- Getting the site to an active state is going to be an entire team effort that ideally would be led by the staff. RP sites have always benefited from adverts and affiliations so that wouldn't change, but I feel if there can just be a regularity with posting that would create an environment that would naturally draw in anyone who happens to be looking for this kind of site for RPing.
- Admin/Mod activity. I can only speak for myself but i certain have not been. As I stated above I will try to knock that off and be a consistent presence on the site. And you are right to point fingers because you didn't say anything incorrect in my views.
- People can go inactive for a myriad of reasons. Generally personal obligations are the main cause, but people like myself can burn out very quickly with things, and lose the focus necessary to be productive with it; think of it as RP-ADD.
Hopefully any other Admins/Mods who have been absent will soon return (there was this tine little movie release in the US this week and everywhere else a week or so ago that might be a big help to creativity like it was to me). For now you will have to settle for me though. And I'm going to start by giving Nat the four month overdue response in our thread!
PS - I have decided to create a Skype account for the sole purpose of being able to be contacted by members of the site and I'll start by posting it here. The Skype name will be CivilWarMod and I will have that on my phone so I can be more readily available.

Thanks for chiming in, CW! Glad to see you back around - no worries on being away, like I mentioned I know that stuff happens, and that's fine. I just wanted to have an open thread for people to share ideas/thoughts over it and just in general openly talk about it. Like I said, a lot of other RP forums I've been on have died quiet deaths were no one was really willing to address or try and fix the decline and the site just became a barren wasteland as a result. So I think at least talking about it can prevent that and make sure it doesn't happen. I totally agree that just having an active community will keep us healthy. or at least having some regular posts. Advertising and affiliates I'm sure is a good plan, but I don't think that is a strategy that works unless your community is afloat first. I know I too get pretty busy and sometimes don't have the time to post, but I am always around to try and plot and spark something for whoever needs it. I have also been thinking about picking up another character to help with that, but I want to make sure I can commit the effort needed to run another character first. Anyway, like I said I'm glad to see you around and hope you had a chance to see the new movie! Great idea about the Skype account as well, that's a great idea in case we need a Mod approval for something or in case a newbie has a question we can't answer
