It was bad luck to say that the day couldn't possibly get any worse, but at this very moment, Molly was pretty sure that the only thing bad luck had left would be for her to stumble upon all of her friends dead bodies. It was raining. The New York sky had opened in a soggy deluge of suck it that left the little girl cold, wet, and shivering. She hugged her arms, huddled under her very soaked hat, and wished she was back home with her parents...even if they were evil and made her eat bran flakes. Of course, as luck would have it, the world wasn't done tormenting Molly Hayes yet. The little girl was trudging along Lexington avenue. She didn't know how she'd managed to make it that far, but she had. The good news about cities like New York was that they always had construction overhangs to hide under. The bad news was that she wasn't the only one with that kind of idea. She'd been forced to edge out from a few underhangs so far in an attempt to get away from creepy people.Molly knew she wasn't supposed to talk to strangers. It helped cement the concept when the strangers smelled bad, or moved erratically. So this left her in the rain without shelter. Which was awful because the darkness was encroaching in a way that made the little girl afraid. She was already apprehensive. So, when an unfamiliar and somewhat foreboding shadow appeared out of the corner of her eye the little girl startled. The shadow moved between buildings like a specter. She couldn't tell it was swinging, or brightly colored, or something she knew. Then she saw it, silhouetted by what could have been a spotlight, but was probably attached to a building and more of a flood light. The shadow loomed over her theatrically and the little girl let out a shriek."AIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"Fear overtook common sense and her mutant powers activated as her eyes suddenly flashed magenta in the darkness. The tips of the girl's hair glowed with the same light, and flared around her like live wires. The next time she saw the scary figure that by now she was certain was evil and following her she grabbed the nearest thing and lobbed it. Unfortunately for our favorite resident Spiderman the nearest thing in proximation to the super-powered mutant had happened to be a truck. It soared through the air...well, like a truck as Molly armed herself with a second projectile: a nearby car.

After dropping Mary Jane off at her apartment, Spider-Man was stationed on top of a nearby gargoyle, gazing down at the city. As the millions of multicolored lights from New York's busy streets lit up the dark sky, Peter took his time to take in the sight of the seemingly peaceful city. He knew that this was going to be possibly the last time he would ever see the city in this state again. With everything that was going on with Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet, he knew that it was only a matter of time before everything slowly spiraled out of control.
With a sigh, Spider-Man leapt off the gargoyle, his limbs hugging against his body as he dove towards the ground below. Before he made impact with the ground, Spider-Man shot a webline towards a nearby skyscraper and swung down Lexington Avenue. As he leapt and swung through the rainy night, his mind was on the events that transpired earlier in the night, and the possible effects it could have on the future. What was going to happen now? How could they possibly go about their lives now that they were, as far as Spidey knew, completely trapped in the city? It wouldn't belong before the general public realized that there was no way they could possibly leave this city, and the reaction was not going to be pleasant. Like every major disaster, there was going to be widespread panic, crime would most likely rocket through the roof, giving Spider-Man an alarming amount of work. Not only that, but what was Thanos really up to now? With the Infinity Gauntlet in his possession, he was practically a god. He had unlimited power and endless possibilities all in the palm of his hand, literally. The part that really got to him was that there was no one around that could possibly stop him.
Things couldn't possibly get any worst.
Well that could have been the case, if that all too familiar tingle didn't trigger in the back of his head.
Peter looked up just in time to see a truck of all objects flying directly towards his face! Almost automatically, Spider-Man spun in the air, his body flipping away from the incoming truck. Seemingly in slow motion, he watched as the automobile barely skimmed passed him, hitting the street below him with an awful bounce, pieces of metal flying all over the pavement. He quickly scanned to see if anyone was hurt. The truck was totalled, but by the looks of it, it had been unoccupied at the time being. The only thing that was going to be remotely damaged was the owner of the vehicle's wallet after he was done dealing with his car insurance company.
Once he was clear from the danger, Spider-Man quickly latched on to a wall, white lens scanning towards the source of the danger. He was ready to face whatever it was that decided to get his attention by hurling pick ups at him. Whether it was the Rhino, Juggernaut, Scorpion, Doc Ock or a little girl, he was read-
A little girl?
Spidey could barely believe his eyes as he stared at the wanna be pitcher for the first ever superpowered baseball team. Low and behold, a little girl with what appeared to be a frog cap on her head, was standing with a Volkswagen Beetle in her hands. He cocked an eyebrow under his mask as he took in her appearance, trying to figure out exactly what he was dealing with.
That was when he recognized her. It was that little girl from the Runaways, her name he believed was Molly? A while ago, Spider-Man had a run in of sorts with a few members of the Runaways after they found their way into New York. While the night ended with him being knocked out by one of them, Spider-Man never forgot about their story. How they were children of a group of supervillains who had perished in an crazy attempt to take over the world.
But what was Molly doing in New York hurling cars at him?
"Easy Andy Pettite," Spider-Man said as he dropped to the ground, raising his hands in peaceful gesture. "Just put the car down and we can discuss this Mano-a-...well Mana? Man I knew I should have paid attention in Spanish class." He said as he slowly made his way towards her. "What are you doing here Molly?"

Someone dropped to the ground near her. Molly couldn't see them particularly well with a car between their face and hers, but she managed to recognize the legs even with cats and dogs raining down on them. "Spiderman?" the little girl breathed in awe, her eyes widening. She'd just thrown a truck. At Spiderman. If there was a way to be grounded forever even after her parents were dead she was pretty sure she'd just managed it. He was saying something about Spanish class, but she didn't exactly understand the connection between that and what was happening now. "I'm sorry! I thought you were a scary person," Molly apologized frantically. "Please don't tell them to ground me for life! Or make me pick up goat poop!" The little girl set the car down so gently that the alarm didn't even go off as the hero made his way over to her. Her eyes lost their magenta sheen as she powered down. Then he asked the question that had been bothering her since she woke up on the subway car and the car slinging hero was instantly reduced to an uncertain little girl."I don't knoooooow!" tears pricked at her eyes but it was impossible to tell in the pouring rain. Her hands turned to fists at her sides. "I can't find my friends! I woke up on a train, like those ones from Disneyland, but it was underground! And there was a moving statue." the girl spoke quickly, obviously agitated. "And then I made a friend, and he found a hotel that I could sleep at, but I can't find him either! Where are my friends? I miss them!" she sniffed, the only effect of crying not interrupted by the rain. "I want to go hooooome."In her agitation she hadn't even noticed that Spiderman had used her name when she'd never met him before. She was mostly just grateful to have found an adult who would know what was going on, and be able to help her deal with the situation. And Spiderman was a hero! So that made him a good person like Wolverine or Doop.

If Spider-Man was any other person, he would have burst out into laughter when he saw the look on Molly's face when she realized who she had just thrown that truck at. He must have startled her in somehow, which of course would have prompted her to pitch the truck at him. He watched as the young mutant lowered the car ever so gently to the ground. Spider-Man let out an impressed whistle under his mask. If she was so powerful at such a young age, Spider-Man couldn't even begin to imagine how strong she would be when she was older.
"Easy Mol, who am I gonna tell anyway?" Spider-Man laughed as he approached her. "Trust me, I can come up with more embarrassing punishments then picking up goat poop. I could make you clean Mayor Jameson's bathtub."
Once the tension had subsided, Molly answered his question about what she was doing here. Well, wailed was more like it. The young girl was reduced to tears as she began a rather lengthy explanation about how she had ended up in New York. Spider-Man tried his best to listen in on her recount of the events, from the train ride, moving statue, and hotel. It was difficult however to hear her completely between the sobs, the rain and the rambling. Spider-Man felt sorry for the young runaway, considering that she didn't truly understand the magnitude of the situation. At the same time, Spider-Man felt anger brewing within him as he thought about what Thanos had done to all of them. It was bad enough that he had trapped them all in the City, but Molly was too young to have something like this happen to her.
A loud crack of thunder boomed out above them as the rain fall intensified. Spider-Man looked down at Molly and then back to the sky. They both weren't dressed in the proper attire to be out in the rain, and any longer the two of them would catch a cold or something. With a quiet sigh and a simple flick of his wrists, Spider-Man crafted a web umbrella of sort and pulled the young girl towards him. Sure it was a little ridiculous, but it was the best he could come up with right now.
"Slow down kid. How bout we start over from the beginning. You mentioned a train right? Where was this train?" Spider-Man asked, hoping to get a better understanding of the situation.

Spiderman's attempt to reassure her that she wasn't going to be grounded for life didn't exactly work. He probably shouldn't have mentioned that he could come up with plenty of things worse then picking up goat poop because suddenly the child's mind was racing with what other kinds of poop he could make her pick up. Then he mentioned a bathtub and the absurdity of cleaning a bathtub caused her sobbing to turn into a hiccuping giggle. "Is he a really dirty man?" Molly asked with classic childlike innocence. CRACKKKKThen the thunder decided to weigh in it's opinion. The little girl made a squeaking noise when the sky cracked like cannon fire, but she calmed down again almost instantly. Molly wasn't a baby afraid of thunder! She was almost twelve! In the time that the little mutant hadn't been frightened by the thunder, no siree!, Spiderman had managed to web some weird contraption to keep the rain off of them. Then he pulled her forwards.Molly stumbled when he pulled her, and made a whining noise before she completely righted herself. Her green eyes widened at the webbing above them in wonder before she realized that Spiderman was trying to talk to her. The child retrained her focus on the man's bulbous mask eyes. They were kind of freaky, she decided, but in a cool way. He wanted to know about the train. She frowned as she tried to remember the harrowing experience. "The train was underground," she informed him. "Like…in a tunnel cave. But it looked like the fancy trains at Disney, and it had a biiiiiiig number seven on it," focusing on one aspect at a time helped her not to get overwhelmed by the sheer enormity of being lost in New York City. "I dunno how I got on the train. Do you know? My friend Lucas said I got caught in a glass of water, but he's a lot smarter then me. I think he's a sixth grader." her brow furrowed then as she recollected something Lucas had told her. "Are you lost too, Spiderman? My friend Lucas said the adults were lost too. Even adults like Wolverine!"

Spider-Man's attempt to turn the young Runaway's frown upside down seemed to work, as her sobs soon transformed into a fit of giggles over his bathtub comment. Making jokes about ol' Flat top always brightened his mood, so it was nice to see that it worked on others. The webslinger let out a quiet chuckle when she asked him if the mayor was in fact a dirty man.
"Is he dirty?" He asked, a smile forming under his mask as he turned to face her. "He's the dirtiest of them all Molly. His soap is actually made up of big, cheap, smelly cigars. Believe me, he once threw a bar of it at me as I was swinging by him."
Another crack of thunder erupted above them as the rain only began to intensify, the tiny droplets multiplying as they pounded against the web umbrella. Peter sighed as he wrapped a steady arm around around Molly, making sure that not a single part of her was getting drenched. As he listened very carefully to Molly's story, the back of his mind was already moving forward. Here this girl was far away from her home, with no place to go, getting drenched by the rain. He had to do something for her. Maybe just to get her out of the rain at least.
Peter didn't know what to make of her statement about being on a train and then suddenly winding up here. Was it possible that the Time and Space continuum was so abysmal that it was bringing people from all over the world? With the power of the Infinite gems in play, no one really knew exactly what was going on. But he couldn't let Molly worry about this. She was far too young to understand the magnitude of the situation, not to mention that he didn't want to upset her.
"Are you lost too, Spiderman? My friend Lucas said the adults were lost too. Even adults like Wolverine!"
"Well Molly, I'm not really lost. I live in the city and know my way around town pretty well. But what I do know is that there could be others lost just like you." He said as he looked up into the distance, trying to spot the bright light of Avengers tower.
It was then that Peter got an idea.
"We can't stay out in the rain any longer Molly, I don't want you to get sick." He said as he quickly handed the umbrella to her. The rain pounded against his body, soaking his costume to the core as he looked at her. "How bout I take you to Avengers Tower? Captain America is there right now so you'll be fine." He said as he offered her his hand.

Molly didn't really know what a cigar was, but she could figure out that it wouldn't make very good soap. The little girl giggled about the mayor throwing bars of soap at Spiderman, because anybody throwing anything was hilarious in a slap-stick sort of way, and the Hayes girl had a great sense of humor. Maybe Lucas had been wrong about all the adults being lost too. Spiderman lived in the city, so it made sense he wouldn't be lost. It was a good thing she'd found him! Otherwise she would have stayed lost. When he suggested they go to Avenger's Tower the child's face lit up like he'd just told her they were having Christmas twice this year. The Avengers were almost as cool as the X-Men. But then he mentioned Captain America and the little girl wrinkled her nose. “Captain America made us go to foster care,” she complained, taking the umbrella. “And he has really bad breath.” The child frowned in thought. “We should give him a toothbrush. Did they have those back when he was fighting Nazis and dinosaurs?” her thoughts about Cap's oral hygiene didn't stop her from taking Spiderman's hand. If she thought flying around in the Leapfrog was a lot of fun, she was in for the ride of her life.

“Captain America made us go to foster care, and he has really bad breath.” The young mutant whined as Spider-Man quickly helped her climb onto his back.
"Not exactly his finest moment I know, but you can tell him how you feel when you see him." Spider-Man said, crossing her arms around his upper body, stationing them just over the black spider emblem of his costume. "Hold on tight Molly. This might get bumpy."
No sooner had he finished his sentence, Peter squeezed down on his right web shooter. The familiar "thwip" of the liquid fluid sang through the rainfall before it quickly harden into a strong line. Within seconds, Spider-Man was airborne, swinging off towards Avengers tower as fast as he could. He had to be very careful to not make his swing to complicated. He didn't want to scare Molly or make her sick at all. The last thing Peter needed was 11 year old vomit on his costume. He kept the swing as simple as possible, like when he was first starting out. No tricky triple axle spins, or backward somersaults tonight.
"Almost there!" Peter called back to Molly as he turned to the left, the iconic image of Avengers Tower materializing in front of him. As they got closer to the tower, Peter increased the altitude of his swing, climbing higher and higher until he reached the rooftop. Once they landed, Spider-Man helped Molly down from his back.
"This is the secret entrance to the tower Molly! Only the cool Avengers get to use this entrance." He said, flashing his Avengers ID badge at the scanner, opening the door before them. He leaned down and placed a gloved finger to his own lips. "Shhhh, don't tell Wolverine about it."
--
After navigating their way through various floors, they eventually made their way to the conference room where the Avengers held their meetings. Spider-Man pulled up a chair and gestured for Molly to sit down in it.
"I gotta go now Molly. When Captain America gets here, tell him that Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man rescued you from that scary storm." He said as he gave her a little wave before exiting the room.
