DESCRIPTION AND PERSONALITY
On the surface, Peter Parker stands at about 5’10” and has a slim, yet muscular build that is reminiscent to Bruce Lee. He may not be the most physically opposing of all the heroes in New York, but as the saying goes “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” He has brown eyes and short brown hair. He has white skin with a round facial features. In his civilian attire, Peter can be found wearing somewhat baggy clothing such as jeans, cargo pants, long sleeve t-shirts, a shirt and open button combination, and the occasional suit.
While he has gone through several different costumes over the years, Peter’s original Spider-Man costume is by far one of the most recognizable and popular suits ever worn. Its a unique red and blue suit with intricate web patterns all over the red areas. A red mask with giant white eyes masks his face, hiding his true identity from the rest of the world. A black spider emblem is stationed on the center of his chest while a red one is placed on his back. A utility belt storing extra web cartridges, a spare mask, and even a built in flash back is across his waist. On his wrists are two mechanized web shooters that are hidden on under his gloves.
On the surface, Peter Parker is a very kind, soft spoken, generous human being who always tries to go the extra mile to help out someone in need. Thanks to years of abuse by his peers, Peter can often come off as a shy, quiet individual, sometimes afraid to speak his mind out of fear of being ridiculed. Granted, Peter has come a long way since his days of being Flash Thompson’s number one target, but he still has his moments. Occasionally, Peter has a bit of a snark factor when it comes to dealing with people in life, such as his old boss and step cousin Mayor J. Jonah Jameson. A brilliant scholar, Peter loves the opportunity to show off his scientific knowledge, a factor that has come in handy time and time again in his life as Spider-Man.
When the Spider-Man mask covers his face, Peter Parker becomes an entirely different person. As Spider-Man, he is a wise cracking, brawler with a never say die attitude. Humor is one of his most prominent traits. Spider-Man has a knack for cracking a joke even in the most perilous of situations. The reasons for these wisecracks stem from the fact that he is extremely scared about what he is facing, but he refuses to let that show to his foes or allies. The other factor of the humor is to get on the nerves of his opponents, knowing that if he angers them, they are more likely to make themselves more vulnerable to his attacks. With this said, whenever Spider-Man stops joking, he will become deathly serious in whatever situation he may be facing.
Shaken by the loss of Uncle Ben, Spider-Man’s sense of responsibility is the key aspect that drives him in his daily life. He has an indomitable sense of justice and responsibility and will do whatever he can to save the people of New York from whatever threat they may face. It comes to great annoyance to Peter sometimes, as his responsibility may get in the way of whatever is going on in his personal life. It has cost him job interviews, made him late to classes and even cost him his wedding to Mary Jane Watson. No matter what, Spidey refuses to let another tragic event like Uncle Ben’s death happen to those around him.
POWERS AND ABILITIES
Spider Physiology: Thanks to the spider bite, Spider-Man posses the proportionate powers of a spider. It has given him superhuman strength, speed and very other arachnid-like powers.
Wall Crawling: Spider-Man has a unique a ability to stick to any kinds of solid surface. He uses this ability to scale tall buildings. It should be noted that this power is affected by any change in surface friction, such as a wet surface.
Superhuman Strength: Spider-Man’s super strength allows him to lift up to 15 tons, enough to enable him to lift and throw heavy objects such as cars and trucks with ease. What this means, however is that Peter must pull his punches and kicks during a fight unless he is fighting against someone with superhuman abilities.
Superhuman Speed: He is capable of moving at speeds that are beyond those of the finest Olympian. While he is nowhere in Quicksilver’s league of speed, Spider-Man is fast enough to catch up to an accelerated car on foot. However, Peter prefers to travel by webs as opposed to running.
Superhuman Stamina: Spider-Man has increased superhuman stamina, allowing him to exert himself physically for long hours before building up fatigue. He can hold his breath for roughly eight minutes.
Superhuman Durability: Spider-Man’s body is capable of withstanding great impacts, such as falling from great heights or being struck by someone with super human strength. That said however, he isn’t invulnerable and the more hits he takes, the more likely he will get knocked out.
Superhuman Agility: Spider-Man’s agility is extremely enhanced, allowing him to perform a sequence of complicated gymnastic stunts.
Superhuman Equilibrium: Spider-Man can achieve a state of perfect balance from any position. This allows him to balance objects such as the top of a flagpole or an extremely narrow ledge.
Superhuman Reflexes: Spider-Man’s reflexes allow him to react much faster then the average human being. He is capable of dodging bullets or moving his body at speeds 40 times faster then the average human.
Healing Factor: While nowhere near the level of Wolverine or Deadpool, Spider-Man posses a limited healing factor which allows him to heal from severe injuries such as broken bones in a matter of days.
Chemical Resistance: Spider-Man has a much higher tolerance to drugs and diseases then the average human being. That said, he has normal tolerance for alcoholic beverages.
Spider-Sense: The most important aspect of Spider-Man’s powers is an instinctual early danger warning system that he has dubbed “the Spider Sense”. The Spider Sense registers as a tingling sensation in the back of Peter’s skull and connects with his superhuman abilities. This enables Peter to avoid most injuries or attacks being thrown at him, unless he overrides these automatic reflexes. The severity of the danger has a impact on how powerful the Spider Sense is. The more extreme the situation, the more painful the spider sense reacts.
The Spider Sense as a variety of different functions. It allows him to move his body to dodge bullets before they leave the barrel, detect hidden weapons or enemies, act as his own little compass which allows him to safety navigate around New York without having to worry about running into things.
Despite its massive scope, the Spider Sense does have its limits. It is ultimately up to Peter to register whether or not he is in danger and react accordingly. He can choose to ignore his senses. In some cases, such as the aforementioned hidden weapons, the Spider Sense won’t notify him what type of threat he is facing, and sometimes Peter won’t know until the last minute. The Spider Sense also doesn’t react to those who Peter does not consider to be a threat, such as his family and friends. With that said, the alien symbiotes that belong to Venom and Carnage do not trigger his Spider Sense, as the symbiote was once part of Peter. The Spider Sense can also be influenced by certain frequencies, such as a sonic or electro magnetic, that are tuned to the Spider Sense.
Master Acrobat: Peter Parker is an excellent athlete, capable of performing every acrobatic stunt ever performed.
Skilled Combatent: Peter has a unique fighting style that involves acrobatic maneuvers and the use of his incredible dexterity. Peter has also developed his own fighting style called “The Way of the Spider”, which mixes Kung Fu, elements of Captain America’s unique style, and Parker’s own spider powers.
Genius Intellect: Peter Parker posses an IQ north of 250 and has an uncanny affinity for science.
Science Major: Peter is an accomplished chemist and physicist. He also created his own web shooters, various costumes with special abilities that he used when he was without his Spider Sense temporarily, and his spider tracers.
Skilled Photographer: Peter is a very talented photographer.
Web Shooters: Using his scientific knowledge, Peter has created a pair of twin web-shooters that are worn on his wrists. The device shoots thin strands of special web fluid that is made from a formula Peter invented. To trigger the devices, Peter must press his middle and ring finger down onto a palm switch. This is done as a safety mechanism so that the web shooter doesn’t misfire when Peter makes a fist. A red LED light has been installed on both shooters to go off whenever Peter needs to change his cartridge.
Peter can fire a variety of webs thanks to the device’s unique system. He can shoot long strands of webs which he can use to swing from or tie up enemies. He can fire small web balls which he can use to disarm a target or simply pin them against the wall. Once exposed to the air, the webbing itself hardens to a tough fiber with powerful adhesive properties. This makes it nearly impossible for a normal human being to break free from the webs. After an hour, the webs dissolve into powder..
HISTORY
Peter Benjamin Parker was the textbook and Webster's definition of the term "loser". The only son of C.I.A. agents Richard and Mary Parker, Peter was born and raised in the manhattan suburb of Queens. When Peter was young, his parents went away on a secret mission to Algeria, sending their son to live with his Aunt May and Uncle Ben. Unknown to Peter, this would be the last time he would ever see his parents alive, as they were killed on this mission.
At an early age, young Peter was shown to be a very gifted scholar, with his primary interest being in science. His natural genius and affinity for knowledge made him a very easy target for just about everyone at Midtown High. Flash Thompson made Peter his regular punching bag and any girl that Peter showed a sliver of interest in would run at the sight of him. Despite his brilliance, Peter Parker's biggest struggle was simply fitting in with the unforgivable environment of high school.
Until one day, Peter's life was flipped on its head.
While attending a field trip to a NYU science exhibit demonstrating the use of a particle accelerator, Peter was bitten by a spider that had been irradiated by the accelerator. On the way home, Peter discovered he had gained incredible agility, strength and the ability to cling to walls. The radioactive spider had changed Peter's genetic structure and passed on its abilities to him.
After reading ad that offered $100 for staying alive in the ring for 3 minutes with professional wrestler Crusher Hogan, Peter decided to sign up in a joint decision to test his new powers and earned some cash on the side. Wearing a mask to hide his identity, Peter easily defeated Hogan, earning the attention of a television producer in the process. Impressed with his amazing abilities, the producer convinced Peter to take the act to television. After designing a costume and a unique wrist-mounted wep shooter, Peter introduced himself as Spider-Man, becoming an instant sensation.
Following his television, Peter failed to stop a thief who had broken into the station, claiming that it was the police’s job to deal with criminals, not his. As his fame rose, Peter had all but forgotten about the incident.
One night, Peter returned home to tragedy. His beloved Uncle Ben had been murdered. After being notified that the police had the man responsible trapped in an abandoned Acme warehouse, Spider-Man raced to the scene, easily intercepting the man. That was when he discovered that the man that murdered his uncle was the same criminal from the station a few nights ago, the one that he should have stopped. He had the power to stop this criminal, but he didn’t. His Uncle Ben had payed the ultimate price because Peter ignored the responsibilities that came with his power. It was there that he realized that when one was granted with such amazing abilities, it was their responsibility to put to good work. It was that night that The Amazing Spider-Man was born.
Throughout the years, Peter Parker, the Amazing Spider-Man has had his shares of triumph and tragedy. For a while, everyone that Peter came into contact with was effected by his alter ego in some shape of form. Harry Osborn, his best friend throughout college, once became the second Green Goblin, taking over the mantle from his psychotic father Norman. Gwen Stacy, the love of Peter Parker’s life, was killed during a battle between the latter Green Goblin and Spider-Man himself. The most terrifying of these incidents was the fact that Peter inadvertently created one of the most dangerous super villains in the entire world: Venom. With all of these and many other incidents, life seems to find a way to try to bring him down. However, every cloud has a silver lining, as Peter has gone on to become one of the greatest superheroes in the entire world, a claim that was evidence by him joining the Avengers. To this day, the Amazing Spider-Man lives to serve the people of New York City and to live by his uncle Ben's motto: with great power, there must also come great responsibility.
ROLE-PLAYING SAMPLE
HELL’S KITCHEN, NYC
A dark figure glided ever so quietly through the alleyways with a grey backpack in one hand. The figure was clothed from head to toe in black clothing, including black jeans, black Converses, a black hoodie with the hood up over the head and black wool gloves. Anyone who was able to spot the strange figure could have easily mistaken it for a ninja. It seemed like it was going for that effect. The shadowy figure stopped moving around as it approached its destination: a school playground complete with basketball and tennis courts. A small grin formed underneath the hood as the backpack opened. The figure pulled out a grey canister with a black valve cup on the top. With a violent shake, the figure pressed down on the valve, unleashing a hiss as aerosol paint emerged from its container. With a wave of the arm, the paint began to form patterns on the floor of the basketball court. A soft, deep chuckle emerged from the mouth of the young man as he continued to construct his masterpiece.
“You know, if you really wanted to be an artist buddy, I wouldn’t have tried Hell’s Kitchen. ” A voice called from behind. The young man whirled around in shock, watching as the spray paint can dropped from his startled hands. The man’s eyes widened underneath his hood as he beheld the strange figure. The newcomer was dressed in a red and blue skin tight suit with black linings all over the red areas in the web like pattern. A red mask with wide white-eye lenses covered the man’s face, leaving no clue of his identity to the crook. The man hung upside down on what looked like a thin rope suspended from a fire escape on a nearby building. The most notable part of the man’s bizarre getup was the black spider symbol imbedded to his chest. The crook stammered, feeling sweat pour down his face, drenching his black attire.
“Y-you?! This ain’t your turf! What are you doing here?!” He stammered in a Brooklyn accent, reaching slowly for the pistol that was buried in his hoodie pocket.
“Daredevil was too busy to check out your little art show. But luckily, I was in the area.” The red and blue clad stranger quipped, swaying slowly back and forth from the rope. “The man continued, bulging white eyes staring straight into the tagger’s soul. “I’m in a forgiving mood today so how bout we just mosey our way back home and call it a night aye buddy?”
“Eat this bug!” The crook cried out as he quickly drew the pistol out from his pocket and opened fire! Miraculously, the costumed clad stranger swung to the side from the web, dodging the bullet. In desperation, the thug fired off another couple rounds, only to grow more frustrated as none of the bullets hit their intended targets.
“Hey I’m not a bug! I’m an arachnid! Did they teach you anything in idiot school?” The masked figure said, his body swaying ever so slightly.
“Hold still and let me shoot you!”
“Hmmm lemme think about it…” Spider-Man pondered as a skillfully dodged a couple more rounds of gunfire by a simple swing of his web. “How bout…no!” In that instance, he squeezed the middle and ring finger of his right hand down on his palm. THWIP! A long string like substance fired out of his wrist, smacking the tagger’s right hand, sending the gun flying back. The man’s eyes widen as he quickly turned back to face the wall crawler.
The next thing the thug knew, Spider-Man had dropped down from his web line, spun his body briefly in the air, and caught him in the chest with both feet. The thug flew back towards the brick wall. His back slammed into the wall, the pain surging through his body as he slumped down. He looked up to see Spider-Man standing over him, clapping his hands together as if to wipe some dirt off his gloves.
“Sorry bout that Picasso,” Spidey said as he shot out another burst of webbing. The long strands wrapped around the thug’s body from his knees to his shoulders like a boa constrictor. Try as he may, he couldn’t break free. He could only stare back at Spider-Man, who was shaking a finger at him in a “Not so fast” gesture. “You ain’t going anywhere buddy. So how bout you just sit there and think about your life. Bye.”
With a quick gesture, Spider-Man shot out another web line and swung off into the New York City skyline, leaving the tagger alone and humiliated for the local police to pick up.
__
“I thought I was done covering your nick of the woods Matt.” Peter thought as he spun freely into the air before shooting out another web line, swinging past the massive Asian style building that served as the Hand’s headquarters. All Peter could honestly think about as he swung out of the Kitchen was what his old friend was possibly doing at this moment that was so important that he had to cover for him. It wasn’t like Matt could simply go out to the cinema and catch the latest Hunger Games or something. Maybe he was on a date? Giving his track record with beautiful women, he honestly wouldn’t be surprised if that was the case. While he was no Tony Stark, Matt Murdock certainly had a knack for hooking up with some beautiful, if not downright crazy women.
Thoughts of crazy women aside, Spider-Man honestly didn’t mind swinging through Hell’s Kitchen to deal with whatever creep that decided to rear his ugly head. After the incident with the X-Men and the Phoenix Force, things had been surprisingly quiet in Manhattan. Not that he minded the quiet, but it seemed very out of nature for the city to be this quiet. With all the super powered figures that populated New York, a gigantic hero and villain brawl was bound to happen just about every two weeks. No Sinister Six to whomp around, no Hulks raging out of control, not even a Juggernaut or Blob to redirect into the Hudson.
Meaning: Life was pretty easy for New York’s Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. With all that had just happened, he didn’t mind taking a brief vacation from the heavy duty superheroing.
With another quick swing, Peter’s thoughts wandered towards the future. Not the far future of course, but the near future. The future that would occur in the next 2 hours. After another quick pass around 5th Avenue, he’d probably just swing back to his Soho Apartment and get out of his suit, probably catch an episode of How I Met Your Mother before crashing. Call it an early night just before getting up the next day to head over to Horizon Labs in the morning. Talk about a piece of-
A surge of intense, pure pain rocketed through Peter’s head like a spike between the eyes. A “Galactus is milliseconds away from biting your freaking head off” Spider Sense wave slammed into him, causing him to drop his newly created web line. As he gripped his head in pain, his body plummeted towards the street below, everything blurring passed him as he spun rapidly. In the midsts of his pain, Spider-Man realized that he was mere moments away from becoming a red and blue stain on the streets. He quickly began to spin his body closer to a wall of some sort, reaching his hands out to grab onto something.
Luckily, one of New York’s millions of skyscrapers answered his call, as he quickly latched on to the glass surface, using his feet to keep him anchored as he tended to his head. As he tried to push the pain away, his head darted around for the source of the danger. What could it be? The Phoenix Force coming back for round 2? The Green Goblin enhanced with the powers of Captain Universe? Mephisto and Galactus fusing together?
And then he turned to the sky.
The previously dark, starlit skyline of New York City was putting on a dazzling display of what Peter would have called a “fancy light show”. Waves of colors flashed above him, each generating a low, charging sound of some sort. The lights rippled across the sky like a penny dropped into the middle of the ocean.
KRAKOOM!
A thunderous crack rocketed through the sky as the colors dispersed across the sky, moving down slowly throughout the city. The intense pain was gone, but Peter’s eyes were wide under his mask, his jaw practically hanging from its hinges.
“What the hell was that all about?"
